What is the UK going to ban next? Ninja stars and kitchen knives?

hollaUK@reddit
If there was a rise in crime of people using fucking ninja stars then yes, yes we would ban that. That's how a civilised country works.
The-Dinkus-Aminkus@reddit
You already did, but you can also throw a rock. Making stones illegal next? Put the criminals in jail instead.
hollaUK@reddit
If you can't see the difference between a rock, and a crafted weapon, then I can't help you
The-Dinkus-Aminkus@reddit
People crafted arrowheads and knives FROM rocks G. They are one and the same as far as the history of human weapons are concerned.
gatornatortater@reddit
There was a tweet from UK police a couple years ago about taking someone's pointy stick.
hollaUK@reddit
You should educate yourself and watch some videos of our police taking people down without lethal force, whilst your rednecks cops are regularly shooting people by mistake. Pretty eye-opening about what you put up with as a society.
gatornatortater@reddit
You seem to be trying to change the subject. What exactly does that have to do with the policy against pointy sticks?
hollaUK@reddit
Because the same incident in America would have resulted in them getting shot
gatornatortater@reddit
For actively killing someone, perhaps... but not just for having a pointy stick.
hollaUK@reddit
Yeah I dunno man, sounds like an anecdote to me. The police are humans so would never support every action every policeman does, but there’s a very good chance if I knew the rest of that anecdote, that I’d support those actions, personally.
john35093509@reddit
We see the difference between a crafted weapon and a rock. What we don't get is why you're pretending that a crafted weapon is more dangerous.
hollaUK@reddit
So a rock is as dangerous as a gun? You're saying there's zero scale of "danger" to an object? Why did people invent weapons then? Why does a samurai sword exist when we're surrounded by free rocks? What an incredibly stupid thing to say.
john35093509@reddit
The comparison was to a ninja star not a gun, just to refresh your memory.
hollaUK@reddit
Yeah I was illustrating a point….
john35093509@reddit
Me too...
hollaUK@reddit
So I guess you can’t address my actual point then?
john35093509@reddit
I thought I had. The fact that a weapon was manufactured doesn't automatically make it more dangerous. If that wasn't your point then I missed it.
hollaUK@reddit
You’re saying there’s zero scale of “danger” to an object? Why did people invent weapons then? Why does a samurai sword exist when we’re surrounded by free rocks? What an incredibly stupid thing to say.
john35093509@reddit
No, I didn't say that or anything that could possibly be interpreted that way by someone on familiar terms with the English language. I said that all manufactured weapons are not more dangerous than all rocks. Period.
hollaUK@reddit
So you’ve just posted two very contradictory statements
john35093509@reddit
Nope.
hollaUK@reddit
So answer my fucking question then, can you not read libtard?
luckoftheblirish@reddit
A country so "civilised" that it treats its citizens as infants, incapable of the responsibility of wielding any weapon that they can meaningfully use to defend themselves. Civilization was not built by such an infantilized population. Rather, it will be destroyed by them. By you. You have unwittingly ceded a right (and responsibility), which civilization is founded upon, and you have done so at your own peril.
So gloat, if you will, about your "civilised" weapons laws and regulations, but don't be surprised when (not if) your country turns into a third-rate backwater.
hollaUK@reddit
Yours has fallen under Authoritarian rule with innocent civilians being imprisoned at the border for making an error on their Visa form, so don't talk about rights, you are losing your rights by the day.
A responsible civilisation understands what matters for the population, the freedom to buy a Samurai sword is absolutely not one that any normal person would give a fuck about.
Snoopydad57@reddit
Hahahahaha...oh, you're serious?!
hollaUK@reddit
Actually analyse what you’re laughing at right, the idea of lots of people actually going out and causing crime with ninja stars is the ridiculous part of it, that’s what’s not going to happen, not the subsequent banning.
Snoopydad57@reddit
All banning things does is create black markets. Witness: US alcohol prohibition, the "War on Drugs," "Saturday Night Specials" gun ban...I could go on, but the idea that banning something will solve any problem is ludicrous.
hollaUK@reddit
22 gun related deaths in the UK in 2023, versus 46,728 in the USA.
….
….
Ludicrous!
gatornatortater@reddit
Who cares what weapon is used. Lets compare murders to murders. Nor does it help to count suicides.
hollaUK@reddit
The homicide rate of US to U.K. is 9 per Million for the U.K. and 58 per million for the US.
So, it’s pretty much 6 times higher.
But the point is guns because that’s the major difference with the U.K. having strict ban on guns resulting in our gun deaths being 424 times higher.
Just let that sit.
Thea’s 42,400% higher.
gatornatortater@reddit
I have to admit that the weapon used doesn't really matter to me. I'm only concerned about the killing part. Which is relevant if the point that is being made is that it is more dangerous because of guns.
Personally I don't think it matters, but you're actually making a decent argument with this piece of data that you were not with the other data. So keep doing what you were doing before. ;]
Snoopydad57@reddit
Total violent crime per 1k residents:
109.96 UK 41.9 US
(As per Nationmaster.com)
The UK has almost 3x more crime per capita than the US. Bugger off.
hollaUK@reddit
You illustrate my point, whats the fatality rate?
Snoopydad57@reddit
You have THREE times (3x) the violent crime we do, and that includes our handgun crime. Don't presume to lecture us about a damn thing.
hollaUK@reddit
How many deaths do we have 🤔
gatornatortater@reddit
That is "gun related". Why don't you dig up the murder rates so you have something relevant to say.
Snoopydad57@reddit
Thanks for making my point. You do know murder is against the law no matter the instrument used?
chrisredmond69@reddit
Ninja stars (shuriken) and kitchen knives have been banned in public in the UK since 1953
Section 1 of the Prevention of Crime Act 1953 and section 139 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 respectively provide for offences of having an offensive weapon in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse and having an article with blade or sharply pointed in a public place without lawful authority or good reason. Section 139A of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 provides that it an offence to have an article within either of the above offences on school premises.
ManyThingsLittleTime@reddit
Why shouldn't I be allowed to carry a sword for self defense? What's the logic there?
chrisredmond69@reddit
The logic is that British citizens considering self defence usually carry a stiff upper lip and a phone, and 99% of us have never been assaulted.
The guy carrying the sword is usually the guy doing the assaulting. (that's what the phone is for. get it?) Then the Police turn up taze him and throw him in a jail.
It's a good system, it works.
ManyThingsLittleTime@reddit
So because a small number of people did a bad thing with a sword, no one should be allowed to carry a sword. Guess you guys should stop driving cars too.
chrisredmond69@reddit
The people carrying swords are drug dealers. The people driving cars are mums doing the school run.
It's debatable which one is more dangerous, I'll give you that much.
ManyThingsLittleTime@reddit
So arrest the drug dealers then. Seems like we discovered the root cause of your sword problem and it wasn't actually the sword after all.
chrisredmond69@reddit
We do arrest drug dealers. Some of them are easy to spot, what with the swords they run about with.
ManyThingsLittleTime@reddit
Then you shouldn't have a sword problem then.
chrisredmond69@reddit
You're in full blown Americanisms there.
I'll phone the cops and let them deal with it. My swords will remain in the kitchen where I use them to crack eggs or something.
ManyThingsLittleTime@reddit
If opting for more freedom is Americanism, then yeah that's me.
UnhappyLibrary1120@reddit
So, I’m really happy to hear that no knife crime has occurred since 1988, congrats!
chrisredmond69@reddit
Never said that...
Indifferent-Owl@reddit
Wtf? Soon kitchen knives lol
DravenTor@reddit
They should legalize guns so citizens can shoot the criminals with knives

PolishAnticommunist@reddit
UK is a totalitarian idiocracy.

The fingermen will blackbag you for comments like that mate!!
shedaoshai13@reddit
Patiently awaiting on the bans for sticks and bricks.... UK all living in inflatable houses will be hilarious.
vithrell@reddit
Ban on clenching your fist next.

coatingtonburlfactry@reddit
Next they'll be cutting the branches off all the trees so that people can't use them as clubs!
mrhebrides@reddit
Soon only these.
hblok@reddit
Plastic!? No, no, that has been banned long time ago.
A_Australian@reddit
I mean, that's not bad...
WebbyBabyRyan@reddit
They should ban the “people” who account for the majority of these knife crimes.
cyrusthemarginal@reddit
You got a loisance for that opinion matey?
A_Australian@reddit
Hey! Mate is an Aussie word!
Don't do us like that!
WebbyBabyRyan@reddit
Exactly 😂 Brits will cease to exist in 20 years.
P1R0H@reddit
Majority of crime in GB is committed by the British though. Including murders.
Odd_Opportunity_6011@reddit
Per capita is a hell of a thing.
P1R0H@reddit
I found this. It's not that recent but better than nothing. If you have more recent data, I'd like to see :)
https://www.ethnicity-facts-figures.service.gov.uk/crime-justice-and-the-law/policing/number-of-arrests/latest/#by-ethnicity
^ it appears that at least between 2022 and 2023 both British and White British per Capita crime rates are higher than Arab (which is the implied minority in question)
From this data they should actually deport/persecute all blacks. Although I'd think that would be mostly actual GB citizens?
I couldn't find data for crime by nationality, which would be more telling.
Odd_Opportunity_6011@reddit
Number of arrests, not the number of reported crimes? It's something I guess.
678twosevenfour@reddit
Well I'd fucking hope the majority population in a country commit most the crimes
coatingtonburlfactry@reddit
How DARE you? Diversity is our strength!!! /s
A_Australian@reddit
KITCHEN GUN!
teleologicalrizz@reddit
Believe it or not, the next thing they are banning is freedom of thought! You thought the telly loicense was bad... heh. Just wait!
-DubiousCreature-@reddit
Shuriken are already illegal in the UK.
Effective_Reach_9289@reddit (OP)
I just checked. You are correct. There are a few other traditional Japanese weapons that are banned as well. https://www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives
igortsen@reddit
This is racist against Japanese culture. Cancel the UK government.
-DubiousCreature-@reddit
At this point the list of weapons that arent banned in the UK is probably much shorter than the list of weapons that are banned lmao
igortsen@reddit
What's the point of banning the weapons of a ninja? You'll never see the ninja coming anyway.
maxmaidment@reddit
I need to know. What the hell is the difference between a ninja sword and a zombie knife? They look the same to me but one was already banned.
_playing_the_game_@reddit
What happens if you get caught with a ninja sword? 🤔🥷🗡
EverythingsStupid321@reddit
I thought they already banned anything sharper than a plastic spoon...
Purplegreenandred@reddit
Knives with tips on them will be made illegal, and knives will have to be secured by cable to your counter like they do at airports.
One_Yam_2055@reddit
IIRC, China does something like that. Large knives must be permanently chained to the table where you use them or something like that.
Purplegreenandred@reddit
Ive seen it at airports, and the uk essentially wants to make their whole country an airport when it comes to security
lordnikkon@reddit
what happens when the murders are done by sticks and bricks? are they going to ban all building materials?
DarthFluttershy_@reddit
Fresh fruit?
not_today_thank@reddit
Yeah, they have working towards banning kitchen knives with pointed ends for awhile now.
fryamtheeggguy@reddit
Things outlawed in Britain: butter knives and private prayer in one's own house.

I try not to kink shame but their cuck obsession is reaching fetish levels.
gatornatortater@reddit
The fetish types are looking at them and wondering why nobody has used their "safe words" yet.
gatornatortater@reddit
A year or two ago here on reddit people were making posts of tweets from UK police bragging about the weapons they got off the street by posting a photo of the "weapons" they got. It was all innocuous things like screwdrivers and maybe a couple knives.
Being the snarky american that I am, I sardonically commented that "they'll be outlawing pointy sticks soon enough!"
The very next day they did a similar tweet that included a literal pointy stick. I was dumb founded. How can you exaggerate what these people are doing? The very depressing fact is that you cannot.
KayleeSinn@reddit
I don't get why though. Like I kinda understand a gun ban at least. At least every criminal won't be able to make one but banning simple weapons just seems idiotic. Even a chimp can sharpen a stick into a spear and criminals don't care about bans or laws, so what do they hope to accomplish with this.
gatornatortater@reddit
The result is that it is easier to find an excuse to arrest a person and it makes it harder for people to protect themselves. I feel it is safe to assume that that is the intent.
calisoldier@reddit
Ninja stars are banned in Calitopia, but yeah, it’s Calitopia so it must be for our own good.
FeetSniffer9008@reddit
Ehm... it's called a katana, not a ninja sword. I believe you did a microagression there right most honourable mr Starmer.
Snoopydad57@reddit

FeetSniffer9008@reddit
To be fair. He has by far the most convinving manifesto. I genuinelly would support points 1, 3, 9, 17, 18, 20 and 22. And with how the past few elections have turned out, a novelty candidate is bound to win a seat somewhere in the next 10 years.

I've written to my MP asking if they will consider banning crime next.
AzyKool@reddit
I love how he unironically refers to "Ninja swords" like a literal child.
And then when you read the legislation he admits he doesn't actually know what a ninja sword is and it can't be defined by that terminology. And also the legislation refers to "modern practitioner of Ninjutsu". The guy is actually insane.
