title. Im 28yo guy, moved to dallas for work about a month ago, staying in trinity grove for now. I wanna move to walkable area having cafes bars n other active life, preferably in an apartment complex or similar around younger crowd(20s n 30s). highly conflicted between bishop arts, lowerG/knox, uptown area, and the village apts by smu.
- What are your thoughts/experiences for nightlife & daylife between BA, knox/lowerG and uptown area? Idk anyone in dallas so i want to make friends build social circle(and dating ofc)
- I toured the Village Apts by smu and its pretty enticing ngl. How walkable/active area is it outside the residential community? and vicinity to any active life?
- What area in uptown would be good place to live?
- im also debating between getting my own place or having a roomate(or take up a vacant spot at someone's place). im leaning towards the latter option but ok to get my own place if social/life is easily accessible. I hate being alone. would love to know the experiences in either situations.
pls help a mate out.
sincerely,
a highly depressed person with negligible dating experience who struggles to make friends.
ps. i workout, joined a run club, do have hobbies n stuff so its not like i dont put effort or anything lol.

The Village itself is great, despite the struggles of some of the new on-premise restaurants/bars since the transformation. The stretch of Greenville Ave to the west has seen better days in terms of the social scene. Still, you can save a lot of money at the Village (esp with a roommate) to offset the cost of taking Uber/Lyft to Lower Greenville or Uptown on nights out.
If you struggle to get outdoors outdoors on rough days, being close to the trail network can greatly help. The University Crossing trail south of the Village abuts several complexes and it can take you all the way to White Rock Lake. It also gets you pretty close to Katy Trail near Glencoe Park. It's a very dog-friendly area, too, and you see huge clusters of folks with their dogs along the trail every night.

is there an online Village community where i can reach out about finding a roomaate?

I'm not aware of one, but you could ask the leasing office if they know of any residents looking for a roommate, or for someone to take over an existing lease. Nothing wrong with making a "looking for a roommate" post, either.

Would definitely recommend the village. Bishop arts is great for an afternoon or night, but it being on the south edge of the city, you’re gonna be just a bit separated from the rest of what Dallas has to offer. The village has way better proximity to everything. If you live in Bishop arts, you’re gonna have to deal driving on a highway most likely with traffic anytime you want to leave.
The village is a mega complex, one of the largest in the country, and has lots activities built into it that will get you meeting people.

ya im heavily leaning towards The Village. which complex do you think is best to live/convenience n stuff? I took a tour for an apartment at The Bend and it looked pretty sweet. i have a car so transportation is not an issue.

They all give you full access to the whole campus, and they’re all in close proximity so I’d just pick based on price. But it’d be ideal to be within walking distance of the main area where the pool, shops and restaurants are. That’s where all the social activities are held.

Bishop Arts all the way. People talking about it being hard to get to other parts of the city do not live here. It’s the best neighborhood in Dallas.

And there is a run club as well.

how did you move without a place to live are you in an airbnb?

They said they're "staying in" Trinity Groves, so another possibility is staying with friends or family. When I came back to Texas 20 years ago, I did so after some months of applying for jobs from North Carolina and not getting anywhere, very likely because they didn't take seriously someone who was applying from so far away. So we decided to move back here and stay initially with my parents so that we wouldn't have to sign any leases or mortgages while applying to jobs in different cities around the state.

i just ask because im trying to move there with no friends or family or anything lined up

If you live near transit, you can avoid the otherwise inevitable spending all your time sitting in traffic.

Some good advice here

Within Uptown, look at State/Thomas hood and also West Village. I think Knox/Hendersen is a slightly older crowd than what youre looking for.
You might look at Cortland M-Line, The Brady, Carlisle/Vine and the brand new building on the Katy Trail (all of these properties are by the Katy Trail.. so if you're a runner.. perfect).

I preferred lower Greenville/knox and uptown when in my late 20s.
I started in uptown and moved away from that area because I wasn’t into bar hopping as much anymore and it was difficult driving to work.
Lower Greenville was more to do in terms of restaurants/walking my dog. Little bit more sprawled and less vomit in bushes. Plus easier to get to work for me.
Also LG was cheaper in terms of rent for the space that I got.
