What headset should I buy? (student pilot)

Hello, I'm a student pilot with 2 hours logged in. What aviation headset would you guys recommend me to buy? My budget is under $500 currently. Someone had recommended me the KA-1 from Amazon but I want to ask yall before making my final decision. Thanks

David Clark H10-13.4 is probably your best bet at that price point. You might be able to find a used set of Lightspeed Sierras or Lightspeed Zulu 3s for active noice cancellation (a big plus), but just be a little careful about scammers.

What about buying some on fb marketplace, someone that is selling lightspeed zulu 2 for $400, is that a good deal? I've never purchased an avation headset, or should I get the Sierras for $700 on amazon?

Probably not a bad deal. I’d probably lean towards the new ones from Amazon, but if you’re willing to bump up your price range, you might get lucky finding a used set of Bose A20s for around 7 or 8 hundred.

Second this. They worked great for my training up through multi.

I would advise, however, that you start setting money aside to pick up a headset with active noise cancellation. The headsets are expensive, but they will last for many years and will pay dividends by saving your hearing in the long-term. I’ve also found myself much less fatigued after a flight with my A20s versus the David Clarks. They’re absolutely worth the price if you can get them used later on down the line.
