So Marugame udon in Carrollton closed down sadly. Anybody know of a good alternative? It was my favorite spot and so sad it isn’t around anymore. Also if you’ve got news of if they’ll reopen please let me know!

Anyone know why it closed :(

They pulled out of Dallas. They are still going strong in places like LA and Hawaii.

I always found it odd they had numerous locations in hawaii and california, and then chose to open a single location in dallas, nowhere else in the USA

It was because they saw Toyota and NTT HQ moving to Frisco as a chance to get Japanese folks into their business. But most people visiting here aren't staying long enough to want a fast food chain from their home country.
The business guys will stay here for a month and their "eating out" meals are usually steak or bbq. Maybe when the community is bigger they will have better luck.

Ah thanks!

It was never exactly busy. It was delicious (I used visit the one in LA as it was next to my office) and 5 years (I think?) in the same spot isn’t BAD but… eh. Rent going up maybe?

I've only been to this place a handful of times but the food is always good from what I remember. They do have Udon and are in the Hmart area.

The one on Greenville closed a while back and was replaced with a Korean BBQ place. Was just talking to a friend about the one in Carrollton this morning about going there - glad I saw your post!

Park/Hebron is losing good stuff. Birdcall was also GREAT but … never busy.

Thanks for letting us know the unfortunate news. That was a favorite place of mine too, as I prefer udon over ramen. I don't know why they all seem to close down.

I also would like to know. Most places with udon on the menu have a very boring plane jane broth and noodles. No rich broth full of add ons like you’d get at an udon specific shop. They just aren’t good.

Hanabi Ramen Kanzi also serve udon, but not a lot of variety
These two don’t specialize in Udon though..
