I played keyboards in the DFW night club scene for almost decade (thank god, not anymore!) and there was this elderly couple who would come CUT IT UP on all the dance floors. I can’t remember the wife’s name, but the guys name was Irv.
Man, they knew every song, knew all the words, had dance moves for each one, and I kid you not, props in their pockets for just the right moment…
Man they were legends, Sherlock’s Addison, Cool River, The BBC, Capital Bar, Memphis, you never knew where they’d pop up!
I remember lighting up lighters when a song would reference fire, money for money, keys for keys… I guess they were just using the regulars as stuff in their pockets :D
We call him the rapist. He has literally raped everyone we know. Everyones nephews and nieces, cousins, neighbors, the pets, even myself. He walks around all day and night looking for his next victim. He’s a cool guy once you get to know him
We also have the older gentleman with the truck covered in silver stickers (or whatever it is lol). Often see it parked outside the Chase bank across the street from Top Golf.
I’ve met that guy before outside the Racetrak. He’s a nice dude, the truck is covered in chrome glue-on accessories… vents, mirrors, etc. I don’t get it, but like I said, he seemed nice enough.
We had a cashier that was so strung out on meth that she chewed constantly. Just standing still, jaw going crazy. She got fired after cussing out a customer.
Another cashier was dead-ringing items. I didn’t catch it, LP did… they called the front desk and had me clock them out for lunch. They left to get lunch and were promptly arrested.
One weekend morning, I arrived to open and found a leather cigarette case on the bench out front. It had an ID pocket with an ID in it, and in front of the ID a little gram
baggie of meth.
Another weekend when I wasn’t working, I took acid and hiked up there around sunset from over in the R streets. One of the cashiers saw me, said hi and then immediately commented on my pupils. I shushed her and said “I’m off work, where’s ____?” Looking for my friend that worked in the back.
10 years ago on Subblet road in Arlington there was this pizza place. They had this kid who was a sign spinner he had long hair huge metalhead guy. Saw him playing air guitar on the sign. Someone eventually got him metallica tickets. He may not be to well known but I loved this guy. If $10 large pizza doesn't scream "METAL" idk what does. https://www.thrillist.com/news/nation/headbanging-sign-spinner-south-arlington-papa-murphys

Holy shit. I think when my band played a show in deep ellum back in 2011 I encountered this guy. He was dressed in St. Patrick's day clothes (bc it was St Patrick's Day weekend), carrying drum sticks, periodically whacking them together while following me and my friends. Scared the shit out of my 17 year old self
In the 90s we had the Deep Ellum poet who later became the Greenville Ellum poet before he vanished. At the same time on Lower Greenville we had Merlin.
Omg! I just posted below about Merlin! His monkey bit me one time when he was out in deep Ellum in the 90’s. I was probably 4 or 5. I think about Merlin all the time 😂
Wow! I had no idea Merlin went to Deep Ellum. Maybe that’s why the Deep Ellum poet moved to lower Greenville. 🤔 I was in college back in those days. And another Wow! for being in Deep Ellum when you were just a tot! I was in college in those days.
Maybe it wasn’t really deep Ellum. We weren’t front there. We were small west Texas folk but the area where Spaghetti warehouse is? Maybe that’s just downtown Dallas- there used to be a big arcade down there and it used to be bustling with people in that little corner. He was there every time we went for years. It’s completely different the last time I went
Don’t forget Lesley on 6th street in Austin. Poor guy got beaten up and passed away several years ago. Use to see him all the time when I go party down in Austin on 6th street banging on plastic buckets wearing a dress.
Back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s there was an unhoused man who called himself black popeye and would do a whole routine w his arm muscles like popeye. He often was in the lower Greenville and deep ellum areas when those were super busy.
Popeye was in Expo Park in the mid-2000s. I got to know him a bit - he’d flex his arm and say “I’m Popeye!” I actually found him on the verge of a breakdown in front of my loft at the time (he has mental health issues) and he begged me to call his sister, which I did. If I remember correctly, she had either come down to get him or sent someone to pick him up so they could care for him. Poor guy was terrified. His family seemed very supportive, even if there was nothing legally they could do to keep him off the streets permanently.
There used to be a pot head guy when I went to UNT. He would walk around campus with a potted plant on his head. For Halloween, he wore a pumpkin. The dude had incredible posture.
If we do the people in other areas around Dallas (and we should, it's a big area) Arlington has this guy who is always dancing by the side of the road.
My first thought as well. His car popped up on r/Waco a little while ago and they were all wondering what was going on. A few Denton folks popped up to basically say “Oh yeah, that’s our Flat Earth Guy! Guess he made a little road trip!”
I see him on 35 in north fort worth too. This is the one. Even though it's not Dallas everyone knows what you are talking about. He always parks in the square in Denton.
I haven't been in years but there used to be that guy at Whiterock Lake, he set up a little folding table and two folding chairs by the running trail on the west side of the lake with a cardboard sign rhat said "Free Advice", and that motherfucker would in fact sit and listen to anyone about anything, and then try to offer some helpful tips. He still around?
Yes!!! I sat and talked with them years ago. Old marathoners and very kind who really listen and genuinely want to help. I think they stilll sit at the west side of the lake on Sundays.
I don't think he has confederate flags but he has all the other ones. Need to hear what he can do with that guitar. Or how he can afford to sit on his ass all day.
The guy who sits under I-345 near Deep Ellum and seems to be watching over the pigeons or the pile of leaves or whatever that is. He also blesses everyone who rides a bike through there.
On Canton? That's exactly who I thought of too. He was always friendly when I walked by him when I lived in Depp Ellum. He is religiously in that sport and I'm always a bit worried something happened to him when I drive by and he's not there.
In azle we have the “talk about whatever is on your mind” guy he’s off the Jacksboro frontage rd in front of Apex liquor store.
Never stopped by but I’ve seen people sitting with him under the canopy he sets out.
If you spent anytime in Grand Prairie, there was Stomp. He is this homeless guy who a lot of folks said he was a vet who had some serious PTSD. He has been around GP since the 80s. Super nice guy when you talk to him. He walks around town and will randomly stop and start arguing with the air and stomping.
There used to be that guy at maverick games that yelled haaaaaahhhhttt daaaaaahhgggss! And you heard it all through the arena. He was on a couple of local commercials doing that
This one is a stretch but, does anyone remember the guy in Oak Cliff. I don't know his name but his gf's name was Dr. Pepper. He was an old thin black guy (if I remember right he wore a cowboy hat and a polyester suit). He ate at the pit grill aka Metro Diner on Davis with his gf. I used to always tell my husband...that guys has a story.
You guys are all wrong....#1 in Dallas it is Clay Cooley....Come see Clay.
#2 it is his 3 kids....Chance, Chase and Ciara.
#3or #5 if I am up to that already is Jerry....Jerry Jones....
#6 Mark Cuban, although now he is DEI NBA owner since he has a Minority Stake.
#7 County Commissioner Clay Jenkins, who took over the Strong Arm law firm with his NON-attorney spokesperson/partner. How we recognize him, I'm not sure, because I would think he is always wearing a mask.
#8-9-10 some other personal injury lawyers with catchy animal slogans....The Lion, The Tiger, The Bulldog.
Also, in Farmers Branch, where I grew up, there was that guy that rode a bike with huge longhorns horns on it and all sort of other “flair” like flags and bells and lights. He was like 50 or 60 years old. He was awesome.
Denton, had a guy that would do kung fu with a rake around the neighborhood near campus and he would randomly chose who would be getting an immaculate and intense yard raking. No leaf left behind. And he wouldn’t talk to anyone. That was the 90’s and early 00’s. I think about him from time to time. 🤔
In Garland, there’s a person who put together some badass white armor out of plastic bags and other repurposed materials. Not at all sure what their gender is, but I saw them at the Kroger on Walnut at least every other week when we loved off of State street a few years ago.
Live in Forney now, and we don’t have anything fun out here.
Oh good to know! We’re just down pinson on the old McDonald’s side of the bridge, but I’ll keep my eye out when we’re on that side of town! This city is in dire need of some whimsy.
This is The Leader of the Darkwatch. I used to work for the city nearly half a decade ago and we’d always see him around. He’s got a black suit of armor along with a much lighter black outfit. Pretty sure he identifies as male.
My uncle was this person where I’m from. He was hit while driving a motorcycle by a drunk driver at 18 & was in a coma for a long time. His legs never recovered so he couldn’t drive but he rode a 3 wheeled bike around town.
Yall remember the homeless dude around Uptown with the dog that wore sunglasses riding in his bike? He also had two mice that did tricks! Been a few years since I seen him.
There's some guy who drives around the Lakewood/Lake Highlands vicinity; consuming vast quantities of mini-wine bottles; and dropping the bottles out his car window. Most everyone in the neighborhoods seems to know of him.
There were so many when I was growing up in West Dallas. The most famous was Hot Shot; he was one of the only white dudes in a mostly latino barrio and would ride his bike everywhere. Once he found the grill of a Hummer and mounted it on the front of his bike. He would always show up at random times and usually offer to help out for some extra change. He would sometimes cause a little trouble, like once we saw him chased down the street by one of the neighborhood prostitutes because he had her perform oral sex but then he only could pay her $2, so that turned into a neighborhood meme for a while.
We had some others like Clarence who would stand out in his yard holding up a metal chair during thunderstorms, he was obviously not all there and was really into religion and would show up to mass and cause a commotion.
In Las Colinas, there is this really cool black dude that dresses up like a cowboy and plays the piano in the Tom Thumb. I love it whenever he is there when I am shopping.
The blue guy. His skin is literally blue from drinking colloidal silver or whatever.
We also had a guy who looked like he was in a 80's hair metal band. Spandex, big aquanet hair, head band, arm band. He rode a bike around with a wagon attached to it. I thought he was a poison band member 1st time I saw him at home depot.
I’VE SEEN colloidal blue man! In a grocery store! And, I cannot make this up, he told me to get the yams instead of the sweet potatoes because of the higher nutritional value.
I was just thinking that I hadn’t seen this guy since before COVID! https://www.dallasobserver.com/arts/the-alfa-romeo-joker-is-named-daniel-burch-and-we-got-to-know-him-10263033
For a long time in the 90’s there was a homeless man in downtown Dallas named Clay who used to wear about 25-30 ties at a time. He was always really nice.
Not sure if he's still there, but in Allen there used to be man with a collection of Jesus signs who stood on the intersection of Exchange and Alma, near Sprouts. Also he had a megaphone and would yell at people.
Daryl. He lived in town (it was a small place.) He didn't care for city water. He'd walk about 5 miles out to the country to get well water. We used to have fantastic well water. Still do, but used to, to. So you'd see ol' Daryl walking down the highway with his jugs of water every few days. He had a brother, but his name wasn't Daryl.
Back in the 90s there was a guy who frequented comic shops etc… and we all knew him as “The Watchman ”
Tall pear shaped ginger hair in a buzzcut wire frame glasses, always wore slacks and a long sleeved button down shirt… he worse his wrist watch on the outside of his sleeve… hence “The Watchman”. He never spoke to anyone, he’d just buy his books they go read them in his car.
With the motor off, windows up, in 110 August heat…
Which could explain the body odor.
There’s this one guy who rode around with a bike with like every imaginable pinwheel on it, and there was the unicycle guy who rode all through far north area- haven’t seen either in a while they were both older men so I’m guessing they’ve passed since 😔
Rainbow Gene Simmons? There was always this guy at the border of Richardson and Dallas off of Coit who'd ride a bike with a cart on the back. He was a straight up Gene Simmons doppelganger, and he often wore very colorful outfits. Kinda miss living in that area and seeing him running around.
My home town has/had “Tin Can Annie”. Supposedly she was left at the alter back in the day, and lost her mind. She walked around town with a shopping cart talking to herself. If it was cold or raining, you could find her at Whataburger in the corner booth playing cards and talking to herself. We also had the inbred family that I can see in my head, but can’t remember their names.

The east side of Dallas has a lot- Bob, Cheryl, the Advice Guy at WRL, the Ferguson Rd lady, Peaches, all already mentioned.
Far East Dallas (Casa View area) has Peanut.
Harry that lived in the Medallion Shopping Center. I haven’t seen or heard about him in awhile.
And for years, in Peak’s Addition/Munger Place/Junius Heights we had this guy who would knock on doors asking for money.
His line was always that he was a chef of some sort and needed money for gas for his catering truck to get to a job, something along those lines.
And he would always hit up the same area over and over again, a few times a year.
And those of us long term residents would obviously know him, like…my dude, you have been here before…multiple times…lol

Richardson has 2.
