Executive Order aims to financially punish states for not handing over election authority to the Executive Branch

From the article:
The sweeping 12-page order contains a number of provisions, including a documentary proof of citizenship requirement to vote in federal elections as well as a requirement that all ballots be received by Election Day — both of which fall outside of the executive branch’s authority to mandate.
But, there’s also a section, buried deeper in the order, that, if implemented, would give Trump’s Justice Department the authority to pick and choose what states get federal funding for election administration. It would require states to loop the DOJ in on supposed violations of election law that it encounters. But it also mandates that basic information about voter roll maintenance be shared with the DOJ as well.
If states are unwilling to enter into what is referred to as an “information-sharing agreement” with the Attorney General regarding “suspected violations of state and federal elections laws,” the Attorney General is allowed to withhold grants and other funds from those states, the executive order says.

Every state that can, should pass the equivalent of that new proposed NY bill that withholds reciprocal funds from that state to the federal government to whatever is illegally withheld to the states by the federal government. The money instead goes to the state government and local funds. If things will unfortunately collapse, then let’s protect ourselves
Sophiekisker@reddit
How does that work? It isn't like States are cutting checks to the federal government (I don't think?). Taxes are withheld by employers and sent to the IRS, and neither the employee nor the state can redirect those funds.
FabulousAd4812@reddit
Does not work. Because the taxes are paid directly to the federal government.if people don't pay the feds collect.
Suspicious_Exam_176@reddit
So red states can just choose to get rid of their income tax and that's fine, but blue states that redirect the taxes towards bettering life for their constituents can't do that? Interesting logic. And by interesting I mean moronic.
FabulousAd4812@reddit
That's why blue states have state income tax. To cover the difference that goes from their pockets to red states.
PettyEmbezzlement@reddit
Absolutely. And the states most likely to do so are ones that are most self sufficient by far (I.e., blue). It would sort of mirror what’s happening with the reciprocal tariffs abroad, in principal at least.
renegadeindian@reddit
Red states will collapse and currently are hit hard already with the gravy train cut off from farms and ranches
viktoriasaintclaire@reddit
I’m worried about our food supply
renegadeindian@reddit
Trump is bringing in “white” African farmers to take over the farms. He is giving them immediate refuge states. He already announced that. Trump is currently begging for eggs and getting turned down. They are removing America from the trade system. Trump is burning bridges and now the rest of the world is done
AdInner3369@reddit
Too true. Soybean and rice prices in Missouri are already plummeting because of the Chinese reciprocal tariffs. Wouldn't surprise me if pork did the same. I don't have any direct familiarity with pork farmers, but I think I read an article a few months ago saying that Americans actually don't eat all that much pork and that most American pork goes to China. (Idr the source, but I came across the mention when I was reading about proposed MO bills to end Chinese ownership stakes in any MO farms.)
Illustrious-Cover792@reddit

Still waiting for Trump to mention the tornadoes that ravaged South East Missouri in mid March. Guess him winning the golf tournament he hosted is more important.

"Does anyone care about nebraska?" Lol They're crying on social media platforms because their undocumented farm hands are fleeing or being deported.

Cautious-Ad2154@reddit
And this is worse case scenario because they will blame it on Blue states and radicalize more of them to Trump we he eventually tries to bring the military into it. Esp of states start withholding money, I can already hear Trump "The reason your farms are failing and your state is in ruins is because Biden, Obama, and Hilary and their vicious corrupt democrats are stealing money that belongs to YOU!"

Arthreas@reddit
Hitler's birthday and Trump's 90th day, he'll receive reports on this day that will enable him to enact the insurrection act, and declare martial law under the caveat of national security and the radical left. He will ensure protests become violent enough to warrant it.
YardOutside123@reddit
Plus it would show those delusional red states they actually can’t survive on their own policies
AdInner3369@reddit
Mississippi just eliminated their income tax. Missouri is considering it too, I've heard. Welfare queen red states wanting some of that delicious, delicious "libtard" money.
SirOutrageous1027@reddit
Dumb question - how does that work?
So, say I'm a NY resident. I still have to pay my federal income tax. How does the state block that money from the Feds? Like how much of the federal tax dollars from a state, pass through the hands of the state government in a way that a state can block it?
autumngirl11@reddit
I think Connecticut might be next. Our governor put out a statement yesterday that seemed like a nice way of threatening the next step.
Ryan_e3p@reddit (OP)
With Murphy seen as one of the few Democrats extremely loud about this administration, I certainly hope so.
Blue states need to band together for cooperative agreements to replace FEMA, reciprocal education standards, etc.
Let the red states wallow in their economic and educational failings, as their communities get wrecked year after year because they refuse to acknowledge climate change and adjust their infrastructure standards accordingly, and their students can't get jobs or accepted to colleges in democratic states because their education standards are reduced to the equivalent of elementary schools.
In short, it's time for states to start looking to move on. Start recognizing alignments, and making their own foreign diplomatic relations for a post-America life. We're on the path to the union collapsing, and we need to prepare for it, since it likely won't come without hostilities.
LysanderSpoonerDrip@reddit
Exactly, use the constitutions separation of powers to make an asymmetrical federalism that works. Let your better societies encourage change or emigration from the less functional states

By no means do I have any want or desire for it, but perhaps it would be better for America, and by extention the world as a whole, if there were some sort of mutually agreed separation of the states, based on ideological lines.

I've thought this too, that Pootypoot wants the USA to break apart, but I don't care if it makes him happy, I want to break apart! The red states have held us back for centuries. How are they going to do that, instruct their businesses not to pay federal taxes? States don't pay tax to the federal government. Frequently there are contingent funds such as the Medicaid expansion but the state has no way of withholding funds from the federal government under such a program

I love the idea, but how much leverage does NY hold with these payments? I would assume most of the federal revenue comes from individual and corporate taxes directly paid to the feds, not going through the state.
If it’s more than a token gesture, I should push my Michigan representatives to prepare such a bill.
LookingOut420@reddit
My understanding, and this from a NerdWallet article and a conversation with HR and payroll manager at my last employer discussing hypothetical last month, is that the employers deduct the taxes from the employee, deposit them into an account, and the make the government payment to the irs. So in theory, the companies could just not send the deposit, and either A) still make the deduction and when a decision is made send the funds, or B) not make the deduction from employee checks and leave them responsible to make the decision on paying the federal government.
The people I discussed it with, were thinking states could pass legislation that would offer some incentive and legal assistance to companies who operated with the states and withheld the state citizens and corporate federal taxes till an agreement be made with the federal government, or a return to sanity at the higher levels.
Again, I’m not saying any of this is legit or possible. Just a couple people smarter than me, having a conversation about possibilities during the after work smoke sesh I happened to be part of throwing around an idea.
AdInner3369@reddit
To my layman's understanding, at least in some states, you can decline to have your taxes withheld from your wages, if not for everyone at the very least with self employed individuals, and pay quarterly or, with some exceptions (farmers for sure, idk about other professions), as a lump sum during tax season.

agent_flounder@reddit
Which branch of the federal government? Congress. Not the executive and certainly not by EO.
Eye_of_Horus34@reddit
The federal elections commission, which falls under the executive branch, is who congress gave this power to.
BeatTheDeadMal@reddit
Literally after the part you bolded: "This report focuses on Congress’s constitutional authority to regulate how states administer elections." Congress. I've never seen someone prove himself wrong in his own post.
In case you don't know: "The United States Congress is the legislative branch of the federal government of the United States. It is a bicameral legislature, including a lower body, the U.S. House of Representatives, and an upper body, the U.S. Senate."
Eye_of_Horus34@reddit
That isn't a debunk of myself. Congress gives that authority to the very agency that falls under the directive of the executive branch, to do the very things it is now doing. Instead of debunking myself, it should only tell you that these are recognized powers of this agency, unless congress wants to change that.

lol, at some point it should become apparent to most people that the current administration is shitting all over the Constitution
Ryan_e3p@reddit (OP)
I see this as one of the steps to "invalidate" the midterm elections that Republicans know they're going to lose. This administration has a long history of making claims of voter fraud (with nearly all of them regarding the 2020 election being dismissed due to lack of evidence), and combined with their recent calls for getting rid of judges who do not agree with them on other topics, they are stacking the deck so that they can make claims of fraud, they can approve the claims, and they can punish the states that don't play along.
ProbablySlacking@reddit
It’s almost like there was a document about a project that would happen this year that lays this all out.
-rwsr-xr-x@reddit
Not only are they going to lose, they're going to get crushed in the mid-terms. By their own constituents. Republican voters who normally vote down party lines, are now evacuating in large numbers.
Trump has the second lowest approval rating of any president in history, second only to... himself, in 2020.
The more he alienates the world away from him, believing that 7+ billion people are all "crooked and woke", with some vendetta to take Trump down personally, and Trump is the only guilt-free, innocent person left on the planet fighting billions of others, the more he'll ensure that his party never regains a single footing again.
Ryan_e3p@reddit (OP)
Couple of thoughts:
The worse the news gets, and the closer it gets to actual midterms, the more drastic their actions will be. They've been planting the seeds for invalidating elections for years now. Casting doubt on the election processes. Removing voters from polls. Now they're going after protesters. Starting to close the jaws on freedom of speech. They're putting into place Russian news figures in the White House while not only restricting authentic news outlets like the AP, but made clear their plan to get rid of news networks and agencies that don't toe the Trump line. Musk has a history of wanting to get rid of Wikipedia, and their recent push to kill libraries is making clear their aim to kill public information that they don't control. Because when the time comes for them to either call for martial law or some other lockdown on our rights, because they control the news, it can for sure be spun in a way that paints them as saviors of America.
If they were to somehow fail at stopping elections and there is a "blue sweep" and Congressional control is removed, that will not kill MAGA. It will only be seen as a "stifling" of the movement. Remember what happened with they lost in 2020. Even after J6. That didn't kill the movement. It emboldened them. Trump complained that his first 4 years were spent having to obey the laws and roles of the Presidency, so he should get another 4 years as a "do over". If they lose in the midterms, it will only create the rise of the next wave of MAGA voters.
No, the only way to kill MAGA is to let it grow. Let it fester. Let it destroy farms, school, and communities as they suffer under their own short-sightedness and hatred for "the other". Let their hospitals fall into disarray as they are filled with Vitamin A overdoses thanks to the wisdom of a man who couldn't pass a high school "Intro to Biology" class. Let their construction workers walk from jobs as their employers no longer have OSHA protections, leading to not only poorly constructed buildings, but a rise in worker deaths on the job. Let senior citizens who need "socialized medicine" die from not being able to afford their prescriptions that are no longer covered and can't afford them out of pocket. Let students from red states not be able to land jobs or get college acceptance in states where educational standards are still held. Let communities fall into ruin as they can't afford to rebuild after a tornado destroys swaths of the town, cities become abandoned as they cannot recover from floods, and states lose significant portions of residences because a hurricane leveled the area because FEMA got the DOGE treatment.
Want to kill the movement? It needs to be remembered historically as the worst thing to happen to this nation. Hopefully it'll quell it for 90 or so years, like what happened with the US Nazi movement in the early 20th century. Maybe this time, we'll actually fucking learn from history.

The more I see these authoritarian practices unfold, the more I see Trump publicly aligning himself with Russia, the more I see his actions being polarized around immigration, the more I'm convinced that the previous "historical record" of John Titor, may actually be closer to reality than fiction.
Direct quotes from 25 years ago, when John came back to the year 2000 from 2030, on his way back to the 1970's before returning to a timeline similar to the one he left.
I was on these forums 25 years ago reading these posts in real-time, as they happened, including many photos he had of his time machine, blueprints, descriptions of his 'micro-singularity', peer reviewed at the time by actual scientists. It was a wild time.

Eh... back in 2016, there wasn't really this 'itch' that we were really cooked as a nation, for many reasons. Trump seemed to be on a much tighter leash back then, and Congress as well as the SC wasn't as compromised. And, admittedly, he had a couple decent appointments, at least in regard to his military appointees. Or at least, they weren't dogshit like this time (an alcoholic Fox and Friends Weekend host as SECDEF? Really?). He seemed to, in his own way, try to be somewhat "Presidential", and while not the easiest President for our allies to work with, he wasn't seen as absolutely hostile like he is now. But regardless, I didn't get the feeling of dread that kicked up right around.... actually, January 6th. When I saw him getting away with it, when I saw the lack of immediate condemnation from the right, and how they refused to hold him accountable.
His current term? He's everything he said he would be. Going after his political opponents. Going after the Constitution. Going after protesters. Destroying balance of power. He's out for revenge. He will be a dictator. He's out to destroy everything that stands in his way, including national allies and friends, and our history and information.
Republicans can cry all they want to about "stop calling us Nazis", but just these last 2 months of what they've done, and everything on the table yet to come, it is absolutely on point for what the Nazis did, and the core tenets of modern Republicanism and Hitler's regime don't make a Venn diagram; they make a damn near perfect circle.
Anyone not planning for what is next is going to be in for a big, painful surprise.

This is not how a normal government is run.
This is not a Republican administration like that under W. Like him or hate him the Bush administration largely followed the law and the constitution. Project 2025 *alone* ought to have been incredibly disturbing to anyone with anyone with a cursory grasp of civics, and we're watching it get implemented in real time.
*This* an administration that is actively dismantling checks and balances and consolidating all power in the executive branch. It is finding ways to circumvent traditional checks on the power of the executive such as controlling funding which has ALWAYS been under the legislative branch's authority for a reason, because it limits what the executive, a single person, can do to unilaterally to alter the nature and function of government at a whim.
This government unilaterally declares people's gender, citizenship, pardons 1500 convicted felons who attempted to over throw the government after they lost at the polls, sells pardons to rich people who defrauded millions in the best Madoff tradition, Destroys alliances with nations that have been our traditional partners by threatening to annex them. Threatens people on social media, (yes. they did this, there's screen shots.) It also launches revenge campaigns against people who lawfully, pursued criminal cases against it. That before we talk about the broad, wide spread, and hilarious incompetence when it comes to handling classified intel and pretty much all other functions of government, like widely gutting the entire infrastructure of every Federal agency that does anything remotely important like controlling the spread of diseases and the goddamn Central Intelligence agency. That's right the motherfucking *CIA*
If you can't see what that has to do with prepers and intel, well, lots of luck because you're beyond any way I can help you.
Dtwn92@reddit
You mean the guy who took us to multiple wars based on lies? Clearly this isn't like that.
As for the rest, I don't have time for a wall of text. Sorry.
Nanataki_no_Koi@reddit
Hardly surprising.
Dtwn92@reddit
What's surprising is that we just saw an administration publicly ignore and have cover from the media after decrying a SCOTUS order. Suddenly, wall of text writers care about the rule of law and the constitution?
Very surprising /s
Nanataki_no_Koi@reddit

The Federal Government threatening blue states to fall in line is some civil war shit.
I think civil war would constitute SHTF.
Dtwn92@reddit
#1) TPM which this article is from, states "could punish" not will punish.
#2) This states or lays our parameters like mandatory ID and upholding their own states current election laws. Shocking, right?
#3) This sources is very left leaning. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/talking-points-memo/
#4) The breakdown from ground news states the differnce between the coverage shows :
So no, this isn't some "civil war shit"
aztechunter@reddit
I didn't read the article, I read the EO.
The EO is an enforcement arm of another EO which changes states voting laws to restrict people's ability to vote. Not enforcing their current state laws (which are already enforced).
What reasons would the federal government punish a state for not complying with heavily restrictive voting rules? Top of the list is rigging elections.
Your argument stating they're not saying 100% they will do it, just they're laying the framework... What's your point? Why lay the framework if not to use it?
Dtwn92@reddit
NO
Because in 2020, several failed to uphold their own laws prior to the election.
That's from the partisan article.
Because funding is all the feds have to make sure states comply with federal election laws. When SCOTUS says to the lower courts in the states, you must follow your own laws and they didn't, like in 2020, this lays the framework stop the states from going rogue.
And...
Still not civil war shit or worthy of prepper intel page posting. There are literally half a dozen other subs who have this post up. This is supposed to be for preppers, This is turning into liberal lunacy that Reddit so awesomely espouses on a grand scale.
Traditional-Handle83@reddit
No, SHTF is happening. It just hasn't gotten to the big turds yet that'll be the war section. Cause let's face it, another global war is about to happen rather anyone likes it or not. Greenland being the beginning.

I fear this wd lead to C. War. They talk abt states rights but they're not going to allow states to threaten their existence.
I mean this is what the 1st one was partially abt. Southern states were trying to make deals to export textiles with other countries.
Also the other day it occurred to me- the civ war wasn't only one side vs the other. It was the govt attacking the southern states to enforce control. To force them to capitulate to something they didn't want to do. Ofc that thing was morally wrong but those states were hard core for it. Had it in their laws. They restricted voting in their precinct by intimidation.
I think the fed govt will be surprised at what states rights means for them. The divided states of America.
ChanginWinDs@reddit
But but but state rights?!
PARANOlD_Lunatic@reddit
Federal government controls federal elections President Senate Congress. States control state elections.
ChanginWinDs@reddit
But I've been told states rights trump federal, well that was the case before this last election cycle, I guess that's changed huh?
PARANOlD_Lunatic@reddit
Federal law has always been higher than state. What people complain about is that the powers of the federal government are defined in the constitution, and any power that is not given to the federal government is given to the states. Article 1 section 8 and the 10th amendment.
evasive_dendrite@reddit

DaddyWarBucks1918@reddit
He’s posturing for a presidential run, nothing more. His campaign strategist looked at why Harris lost, realized that the Democratic Party leaned to heavily on issues the majority of independents and centrists either don’t care about or oppose, and is course correcting for that. Waltz is doing the same thing and likely we’ll see others doing similar actions as we approach the run up for 28.
Wow_u_sure_r_dumb@reddit
You may be shocked to hear this but Harris didn’t bother with the left leaning stuff at all. Nothing about trans rights or anything. She literally fucking campaigned with a republican daughter of Dick-Fucking-Cheney. Just because dipshit democrats are going even further right doesn’t mean she went left. Yeesh.

Successful_Rest_9138@reddit
You are proof of how dumb most Americans are. We've had mail in ballots since the fucking Civil War. They aren't without risk, but voter fraud is about as miniscule as a Trump voter's reasoning skills.
No reasonable person who believes in the constitutional Republic of the US is against secure elections. They disagree with your unfounded paranoia and Trump's accusations for mass voter fraud when time and time again evidence has shown the contrary. The irony is now we have an absolute trash human being in the white house, who wants a third term, probably has every motivation in the world to undermine our free and fair elections, yet Trump voters will now never sway from sucking his dick no matter how many flubs, economic criseses, or meme coins this guy uses to line his pockets.

Lol okay buddy. The "mail-in farce” where states, during a once in a century pandemic, expanded vote by mail access to protect public health. You know...like the five states that were already conducting all mail elections before 2020. Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah, and Washington, funny how nobody cried fraud then. What you’re mad about isn’t fraud. It’s more Americans voting, especially ones who don’t vote like you, apparently. Yet you call everybody else cheaters. The system worked, it was verified over and over, and over 60 court cases upheld it. Trump's own fucking DOJ and DHS didn't find a god damn thing lol. This bit at the bottom: Sec. 11. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:
(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or
(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.
(b) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.
(c) This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

About time we eliminate fraud from elections. Any state against voter id, paper ballots and same day voting is a state that wants voting fraud.
datumerrata@reddit
Same day voting is how the GOP discourages voting. They intentionally provide fewer voting places with fewer machines, so that the lines go around the block. People stay in lines for hours. Whereas areas that traditionally vote Republican are better suited for capacity.
Also, I'll find you 4 cases of Republican voter fraud for every one case of Democrat voter fraud you find. Can you find one?
arabica_kadabrica@reddit
So, wanting the members of our military (those who arguably do the most to defend our country, our rights, and our Nations interests) who are stationed overseas to have the ability to vote is the same as wanting voter fraud?
Believing in States Rights is suddenly the same as wanting voter fraud?
Pointing to the Constitution where it CLEARLY lays out that States are responsible for holding and maintaining elections is suddenly the same as wanting voter fraud?
But wanting to give all power to one branch, particularly to an adminstration that has openly embraced authoritarian regimes and is constantly attacking our allies, the checks and balances on the branches of government and the Constitution, and furthermore to an adminstration run by a convicted felon, rapist, and pedophile with a vested and conflicting interest in maintaining power to stay out of jail, is a step in the right direction?

It's stupid to require all ballots be received before election day. That means everyone voting by mail would need to vote 3 days at a minimum before election day. A lot can happen in those 3 days to change people's minds on who to vote for. The President in power could even collude with the Postal Service to delay delivery from areas with opposing party demographics. As long as the ballots are postmarked by election day should be good enough.

Not familiar enough with election laws to say if any of this is a transfer from Congress to the Executive Branch, but as an advocate of states rights, shouldn’t federal elections be controlled federally as opposed to being left up to the states?
Not advocating for it to be in the hands of the Executive Branch btw, just curious if there is already some mechanism that has federal control, and what people think would be an good form of management by the federal government, removing the states entirely.
CaptainJ3D1@reddit
The mechanism is baked directly into the constitution. Each state controls and runs their own elections and posts the results up the chain.
BigDigger324@reddit
We actually don’t have any “federal elections” in the U.S. we have 50 individual state elections that report their results to a panel of electors. Then they go on the now famous J6 to give their results to Congress.

You, America, need to start protesting. On a massive scale. We just watched Serbia get 800,000 people out to protest with a population of 6.7 million. Write to your legislators, take to the streets, general strike. Do whatever you need to make it clear this is unacceptable.
No matter what side of politics you fall on, there are reasons why governments limit the control of their leaders. The spirit of democracy requires it, as we have seen so many times where too much power in one person causes chaos. Excuses can be made, eyes can be rolled, but at the end of the day a majority of what the Trump administration is doing is illegal, and it’s clear the opposition isn’t doing anything to stop this.
As much as “right wing”* people hate the comparison, the only way to ensure you don’t end up like Nazi Germany is mobilizing more people against the Trump Administration than they have for it.
** i put right wing in quotations because I like to make it clear I do not consider “conservative” the same as “right wing”. You can have conservative political opinions while still respecting human rights, ethics, and the spirit of the law. I consider ring wing to be those who are do not respect those things

Blue states just need to stop paying taxes until they get fair representation

"I want all the power. Me. The power is all to me. I will use the power, the power that will be to me, the best you've ever seen power used. That power that's mine. Some will say that power isn't mine, but it's the power that is mine, and power I'll use as great power. The greatest power for this greatest country of great power. Day one I will slash prices with this power. You know, the power that is mine, for me. My power. Why am I here?"
-Trump, probably
Fantastic-Affect-861@reddit
In other words, we will definitely never have a fair election again. Many of the states will undoubtedly cave.
Basicallylana@reddit
So he wants to bring back pre-clearance? Too bad SCOTUS struck that in 2013.
agent_flounder@reddit
So is that settled law like Roe v Wade?
Basicallylana@reddit
Given that it was decided in 2013 and the majority opinion was written by Roberts, I'm hard pressed to believe that this court will overrule Shelby County v Holder. If Trump wants this, a new law would have to be passed
carlitospig@reddit
FUCK YOU.
~ the states
d0ggman@reddit
I mean at this point just anoint trump king. It’s what they want. Stop jerking people off with their bullshit.
Crazyblue09@reddit

Donald H.J Trump.
StolenPies@reddit
Well, he did say that there wouldn't be any more blue states anymore. Once the states cede that authority, what's to then stop him from issuing additional EO's further eroding election integrity?
SundinShootsPing500@reddit
All of that 2A talk for moments exactly like this...........crickets.............not even crickets just the hollow sound of lies caked with the blood of every single citizen that was slaughtered for seemingly no reason. All of those school children laid to waste, for what?
DO SOMETHING YOU COWARDS. ANYTHING. THIS IS WHY YOU STOOD IN THE FACE OF PARENTS WHO WERE FORCED TO BURY THEIR MAIMED CHILD AS TO WHY YOU NEEDED THE RIGHT TO OWN WEAPONS OF WAR. FOR THIS. NOW WILL ALL OF THAT HAVE BEEN FOR NOTHING OR WILL YOU ALL STAND UP AND FIGHT FOR YOUR COUNTRY THAT IS BEING TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU. NOT SOMEOME ELSE. YOU. NOW. ORGANIZE. TALK. DO. SOMETHING.
Superman246o1@reddit
That would disenfranchise many active duty members of our military. They'd be depriving the people who do the most to defend our country of its most cherished right.
Ryan_e3p@reddit (OP)
That tracks with his history of shitting on servicemembers and Veterans.
otayyo@reddit
Can someone please tell me how electoral reform seems to be all but absent from your discourse? How the left isn't pushing for non-partisan election control is flabbergasting to me.

Executive orders have no law binding legal standing: they aren't mentioned in legislation, precident, or constitutional authority. They're suppose to be when presidents cite laws that allow them to further Executive policy. Not an attempt to legislate by Royal Proclaimation.
Flaky-Argument3248@reddit
And yet everyone seems to comply in advance when one of these EOs is released smh

Kim Jong Trump at its best.
Legitimate_Climate87@reddit
10th Amendment, Trump. State's reserved rights against precisely what you're doing. If states give up their electoral rights, we will become a unitary state.
PolloConTeriyaki@reddit
Lol this guy is fighting a war on all fronts.
He's not going to win.
We have to fight harder.

Yeah what happened to less Federal government and more State power? Thought it was a Republican mantra
kcc8493@reddit
Wrong
Curious-Telephone293@reddit
And … I guess the constitution is over. The states should go directly to SCOTUS. If SCOTUS backs Trump, then the constitution is apparently cancelled.
Rapscallion-69@reddit
This will be woven into his "justification" to void Blue state votes and appoint electors that override the popular vote.
_Let_Us_Prey_@reddit
Holy god damn shit this is fucked.
