Article misses out the "By 2030" part that should be in the title.
European rearing is slow, but not something slow that this could be a problem.
That said, if we were to help Ukraine win decisively and get putin overthrown it's definitely something we wouldn't have to worry about .
lerpo@reddit
I would assume if anything is going to kick off it will be before Trumps term ends.
I genuinely worry if the US would actually come to the aid of NATO at this stage, with Trump in charge.
GreatBigJerk@reddit
That's bold to assume Trump won't still be president in 2030. The only way that happens is if he keels over.
lerpo@reddit
Thr guys a chonky boy eating fast food daily and pretty old. I'll be amazed he lasts the full term
GreatBigJerk@reddit
He's also got access to the best medical care on the planet. There are politicians in worse health that have lived longer.

GreatBigJerk@reddit
Evil people usually do go out via old age or violence.
Every now and then we get lucky with illnesses or accidents, but not often enough.
kilinrax@reddit
I wouldn't put it past Trump to provide intelligence and logistical support to Russia if it kicks off a year it more from now.
whoibehmmm@reddit
They won't. This is obviously a plan to divide and conquer. While Europe is distracted by defending against Putin, he will be trying to take Canada and Greenland by force.
YeetedApple@reddit
Yeah, if Russia is truly serious about invading further into Europe, they will never get a better opportunity than this trump term. Even if their expectation is trump finds a way to stay in power, that is one hell of a gamble that could lose their best and probably only opportunity if it doesn't work.
lerpo@reddit
Precisely.
And that time would be the perfect opportunity for China to go for Taiwan at that stage with everyone distracted.
Things could escalate within a few weeks horrifically as a worst case in the next 4 years.
Early_Commission4893@reddit
Let’s be honest here. Any version of Russia invading Europe involves nuclear strikes. It’s the only way they stand I chance of success, unless given ample time to rebuild their military. Even then, if beaten back, they will launch nukes.
As stated above by someone else. Now is the time to defeat them in Ukraine, and hope the Russian people take the lead from there and rise up for change.
Gullible-Fee-9079@reddit
Do you think President "Did you even say Thank You?" Would be any better?
Pleasant-Trifle-4145@reddit
Buddy that's not a problem for Russia anymore, you guys are no longer a reliable advisory. You've sabotaged your military alliances for decades and it's doubtful the religious extremists in charge will ever relinquish power.
You are much less a consideration..
lerpo@reddit
You know I'm not to blame for the military as a random guy from the don't you? 😂 We are well aware of the issues as public
diwhychuck@reddit
Trump would jump on this for the land grab potential of acquiring Russia. Orange guy thinks he’s smarter.
GirlWithWolf@reddit
Come to the aid? We’d join the Russians and North Koreans. Sadly I can’t put an “/s” at the end of this.
Expensive_Watch_435@reddit
I guarantee you, once Taiwan starts to be invaded Russia is going to hop on the opportunity
ThisIsAbuse@reddit
Good, they will wipe Russia off the map. One tough little nation of Ukraine stood up to them for this long and killed hundreds of tho sands of Russian Soldiers, and so many tanks. They are going to go to war with all of NATO (Ya I know Trump might hold back USA).
jonnieoxide@reddit
Russia has 1 million troops, EU has 2.5 million. Russia has weapons that were designed and manufactured in the 1980s. EU has modern weapons. Russia is led by top-down incompetence and their “army” is full of convicts and alcoholics. EU has disciplined, professional troops.
Europe does not need the US to help in this fight, and any headlines that suggest Europe is afraid of Russia are almost certainly attributable to Russian propaganda.
Fuck Russia. I will celebrate the demise (or war crimes conviction) of Vladimir Putin with tariffed champagne, escargot and European tobacco.

Appeasement does not work
pakZ@reddit
Appeasement, as in: move NATO directly next to Russian borders, decline Russia joining NATO, force Russians neighbours to stop trade with Russia, pretend Russia is the only country to interfere in foreign elections, act like every single Russian athlete is a criminal, ... Yeah, quite obviously, this type of appeasement didn't work.
I wonder why..... 🤔
Cobalt81@reddit
Way to give an extremely one sided, biased response.
pakZ@reddit
Unlike everybody else's opinions here, right?
But let me take the bait. Please tell me what parts of my response were factually wrong. You simply parrot other people's narratives. Stop acting like you're something else and maybe come up with a thought of your own.
Cobalt81@reddit
I didn't say you were factually incorrect. The problem with how you're presenting the story is that you're only talking about how the war has negatively affected Russia.
Russia started the war and committed countless atrocities and war crimes. Thus, the story you're telling are the consequences of their actions and you're trying to tell it as if they happened in a vacuum, as if Russia is innocent.
That is my problem with what you've said.
Transocialist@reddit
They're talking about actions the US and NATO took in the 90's and 00's e.g. denying Russia entrance to NATO happened pretty soon after the fall of the Soviet Union. You're talking as if that's a consequence to the war in Ukraine and not an antecedent.
Cobalt81@reddit
Why does it matter if Russia tried to join NATO? Is that enough reason to start a war with Ukraine and commit war crimes?
I'm not really sure where you're going with this.
pakZ@reddit
The topic was appeasement politics. Ousting a country like that is not appeasement. If you corner someone, the reactions might be drastic. Russia has repeatedly communicated the red lines that they will not allow NATO to cross; this doesn't justify any of these reactions whatsoever. But if you put a knife into the hands of a suicidal person, you are at least contributing.
You talk about vacuums but ignore everything that took place before 2022. I honestly can't tell if you're trolling or not.
Cobalt81@reddit
The only one trolling here is you. Quit acting like Russia is the cornered mouse, the suicidal person on the edge. They started this war against Ukraine, they are the cornered mouse, not Russia. Russia fucked around and found out.
pakZ@reddit
A remarkably unintelligent response. 👍
Cobalt81@reddit
As I expected, you never once contributed to the conversation.

594896582@reddit
Russia signed the Budapest Memorandum with the UK, and the USA, and Russia spent the entire time after that meddling in Ukraine's politics, societal stability, and then invaded, all within a 12 years of swearing they'd protect Ukraine in exchange for Ukraine's nukes, then 6 years later they did it again, and then they did it again and still haven't left.
Why the fuck would anyone want to ally with a nation that behaves like that, much less one that just spent the overwhelming majority of the past century threatening nuclear attacks, spying on fucking everyone, and even siding with the nazis at the beginning of wwii, and only changed their mind about it when the nazis betrayed them, but that didn't stop them from invading Finland, or other places.
NATO nations saw how they were, knew nobody changes that quickly, and Russia proved that it hadn't changed, and continues to prove that to this day.
more than 20 ceasefire declared after Russia invaded Ukraine, and Russia violated every single one of them.
So all this looks like is whinging about Russia being distrusted because it has spent at least a century being treacherous, whilst they continue to prove that they are still treacherous.
Bubbelgium@reddit
That only happened after the invasion of Ukraine when Finland joined NATO. Now they share a 1300km border with NATO and the Baltic sea is a NATO sea.
Genius russian plan, really. Let's invade a non-NATO country to prove to other non-NATO countries they have no reason to fear russia and join NATO. Followed by the usual boohoo the west is so russophobic.
Rip1072@reddit
Because punitive actions are the only thing the Russians understand. Like the old adage, "Why do you need a 2x4 to train a Mule? Well, first you get its attention, then you train it."
Possible-Reason1515@reddit
İt's quite timely considering the EU has just published this; The European Union has told its almost 450million citizens to prepare for war or natural disaster by assembling ’72 hour survival kits’.
dieseljester@reddit
Only 72 hour survival kits? They’re adorable.
594896582@reddit
Their countries are much smaller, so it's much faster and easier for them to get military support into areas where people are, so they won't need much more than that to get somewhere safe, where there's regular food.
Their old cities and roads are also built on centuries, to millennias of wars, so it's a lot easier to fortify against invasions... and since they currently only need to worry about Russia, there's a very limited number of places they need to start fortifications.
And they'll still have the food in their homes to eat before they'll need the 72hr kits.
BJntheRV@reddit
Their spaces are also typically smaller so less room to stockpile.
dieseljester@reddit
Fair. I am looking at this from a perspective of a person living in Alaska where we have to prep to survive for no less than two weeks of things go to hell.

Appeasement would be a very gentle word. Germany did a lot to make Putin what he is right now.
randomrealitycheck@reddit
I know! Did you see what Germany was wearing? They were begging for it.
Your assertion is dubious at best. Do you honestly believe a former KGB assassin was shaped in any way by Germany.
nighthawk_something@reddit
Putin was a desk jockey. Not an assassin
Ricky_Ventura@reddit
This is extremely overblown. Germany bought a lot of Natural Gas from Russia before revitalizing their entire energy sector to wean off of Russian imports in a relatively short time and then built 4 massive ammunition and drone factories in Ukraine to help give self-reliance on Ukrainian ammo and drone production.
Glitchyguy97@reddit
They couldn't take the Ukrainian army I don't think there's much to worry about
Rev-Dr-Slimeass@reddit
I would just like to point out this is from a Ukrainian source. A source that has posted numerous dubious articles over the past few years.
Ukraine, and to an extent Pravda have a vested interest in Europe remilitarising. I agree that is a good idea, not just for Ukraine, but for Europe in general. I don't think Russia is prepared to invade Europe though, and I think it's unlikely they will have an interest in doing that in 2030. There are never going to be tanks pushing past Berlin again. Worst case, a closure of the Sulwaki gap, but I think even that is unlikely.
odndodnxn@reddit
I think what people also fail to consider is that even if Russia hypothetically were to conquer large parts of Europe, it would be extremely unlikely that they have the infrastructure and resources to keep the captured territories.
I don’t see how attacking Europe would make sense for Russia, even from a purely Machiavellian perspective
StrikingImportance39@reddit
This is not how it works.
Once Russia captures Ukraine the next thing what will happen is that all Ukrainian men will be forced march to Baltics and Moldova.
Once they take Baltics then all Lithuanians, Latvians will March to Poland.
This is how Russians clean ethnicities. They just kill all men, and those who refuse they will be sent to gulags.
They have been doing this for centuries.
odndodnxn@reddit
No, this is not how it works. While there is an active war in Ukraine, to my understanding, Ukraine is not being ethic cleansed like Gaza for example. I think you need more varied sources for your understanding of history, what you described is not modern Russian dogma.
nf_x@reddit
It is cleansed now as well. And it was cleansed in 1930’s by killing tens of millions of people. Lookup “holodomor”. russia doesn’t deserve to exist.
groundeffect112@reddit
I don't think it's unlikely. It mostly depends on US commitment to Europe and the belief in NATO's article 5.
If there is a disengagement, Russia will test European resolve. Obviously, he will not attack Europe on all fronts. He will most likely take over a forest area in Finland with 0 inhabitants. The Suwalki gap is another possibility, but in that case Russia will have a harder time controlling the escalation ladder.
OpalFanatic@reddit
Also, pretty much all countries "prepare for war" regardless of if they intend to fight or not. The USA has made countless preparations for wars we never fought. As an example, the entire purpose of our nuclear deterrent is a preparation for a war we hope to never fight.
Saying that Russia has prepared for war with NATO, or is preparing for such is like saying "water is wet." It isn't useful or actionable intelligence without details on those preparations so that counter preparations can be made.
Mysterious-Action202@reddit
JD Vance made statements a few days ago about investing "over a trillions of dollars" in the military to be ready for war. He also kept making Freudian slips, like saying it was for when "we are going to send you... if.. if we have to send you to war."

They can't even win a war against Ukraine. There is no way they could fight nato.
Withoutanymilk77@reddit
Russia can’t even take Ukraine. How are they going to fight nato?
StrikingImportance39@reddit
Russian on its own won’t be able to take Ukraine nor any other country.
However, they will receive help from USA.
That’s because USA aligned themselves with Russia. Meaning it’s better for them that Russia won’t loose, but win.
It will weaken Europe. This will allow USA to go for Canada and Greenland.
At least that’s what Trumps administration is thinking.
Withoutanymilk77@reddit
Trump annexing Canada is the equivalent of adding 30 million democratic voters to the country. It makes no sense for him.
They also already buy all our resources below market value so invading us would just make everything cost more.
Leaving nato also makes no sense because the US sells a bunch of military equipment to them and make billions.
So much ?????? From this all.
StrikingImportance39@reddit
The votes won’t matter soon.
Yes u will be able to vote but it will be a more symbolic gesture. Like in Russia or Hungary.
I know it’s hard truth to swallow but Canada is as much in danger from UsA as Baltics from Russia.
jacscarlit@reddit
I know it's real, these authoritarian leaders being in their end-of-life crisis stage... But it's so hard to believe.
Russia's funds are low, their supplies are low and of low quality, and their fighting population is quickly running low. They're asking 15 year old girls to have babies, that's how desperate they are. In 10 years, if they can convince any girls to give birth this year, their children will be 9 and many will be female. That's not a fighting force to replace the dead and injured/disabled veterans. They either turn on their allies and any mercenary group they use, or lose too many of those men to this forever war.
I just don't see how unless Putin uses nukes which hurts him as much as the rest of us. That is, unless he uses them because he's dying of cancer or something and no longer gives a Fuck.
Parking-Iron6252@reddit
With what army 😂
lerpo@reddit
I suppose the same way Germany managed to keep pushing forward in ww2. It's the reason we need to support Ukraine so heavily.
If Russia "win", they take over the Ukraine army and resources, combine forces and push forward to the next location.
Varsity_Reviews@reddit
War isn’t like command and conquer where you can just capture an enemy HQ and train their soldiers and build their vehicles. They’d be engaged in a guerrilla war before they have any Ukrainian military assets working for them.

Future_Union_965@reddit
US has been advising EU for decades about this.
Any_Hyena_5257@reddit
No it is not America was busy up its own arse in Iraq and Afghanistan and had to relearn conventional warfare.
Future_Union_965@reddit
Wtf are you on? Countless military advisors were warning of issues in Europe before 2016, and before Putin's invasion of crimea. Relearn conventional warfare? The US was dominating in Afghanistan. The kill count shows it. What really happened was that nation building was a failure , and the majority of afghans didn't want a secular government. It was unpopular for going on for so long. It was a good decision to pull out but your idea that the US was losing is silly.
Any_Hyena_5257@reddit
Not the crack that you are on. I've been warning of the Russian threat since 2008. Countless, name one. Thank you but you clearly have zero relevant expertise in this area. Afghanistan was not conventional warfare it was counter insurgency. Americans and their former allies fought from FOBs and conducted counter insurgency operations not conventional warfare based on combined arms against a peer on peer enemy. Officers and soldiers who were used to that were by and large all out of the military by mid 2015. Which meant that a lot of officers had almost next to know knowledge of Divisional and Corp type exercises that were conducted routinely prior to Iraq and many had to relearn and start fresh as well as reactive kit or buy kit that was more suitable. No body talked about losing I said disappearing up its own arse. Stick to computer games and gobbing off from your arm chair.
Any_Hyena_5257@reddit
No, the septic Donnie Krasnov has been talking about this since his trip to Moscow in 1987. NATO was never a topic before he was elected and America was very happy to call article 5 after twin towers. It's never said thank you or paid its former allies for all their soldiers killed fight yank wars. Don't lie.
AlexmytH80@reddit
No, this will be like the last 2 world wars. Europe can't figure it's shit out. The US sits back, refusing to take sides while trying not to piss off either side. Ultimately, for one side or another, to drag us into it. Germans shouldn't have sank our boats before we entered ww1. Japan should have attacked a different harbor in ww2. We never wanted a part of Europe's wars.
As it is headed, maybe the US should let Russia bring Europe into a unification. After a couple hundred years of revolution, Europe might be ready to fix its shit. The US has its own problems to fix this war.
Any_Hyena_5257@reddit
Well thank you to the person who got their degree in history from Tik tok, good to see you blatant lack of historical and geographic knowledge has got you wrapped around Donnie Krasnov, CEO of the American Regimes Oligarchs, little finger.
Germany shouldn't have sank the Lusitania, equally you seem to have forgotten if it hadn't been for France you'd still be speaking the Kings English and not that bastardisation that is American and on both occasions when France needed you, as you say yourself you were not only tardy to the party but in WW2 it was Japan that brought you in and at that time, just like now, you had a massive Nazi problem. Interestingly being a Nazi boot licker seems to run in the Kennedy family.
Secondly, Japan is not in Europe.
Thirdly on neither occasion did you have to send troops to Europe but you did and being a typical American, because nothing is for free, you've been asking us to be grateful for the huge debt that it entailed subsequently which included: A debt so large that Britain only finished paying theirs off in 2006, also allowing and supporting US global hegemony, which has meant most foreign policy decisions have had to include America, America benefiting from European bases and those in and out of Europe such as the Chagos, Djibouti, Gibraltar and Cyprus as well as globally such as Australia, Iceland, Greenland etc with no complaints from us, but it seems plenty from yourselves.
Fourthly. You atrophied Europe's defence industry using soft power to make us purchase your crap and reduce funding on our own, stole nuclear secrets and tech from the UK and inserted your billionaires corporations all over the west who pay no tax or very little tax but do dominate us, get rich off us, fuck our employment laws and create unemployment and shit employment for those that do have to work for them.
Fithly So you say that you never wanted to but it seems subsequently, there have been only wars Europe has been at your side as you assert global dominance, fighting and dying for America in Afghanistan and Iraq. Both times you didn't say thank you (in a suit) and Denmark, who you are shitting all over, took one of the hardest areas in Afghanistan. That shit stain on humanity you call your VP and anyone related to him, should never be allowed to stand on Danish land again, it's an absolute insult to the families of their dead. The billions it's cost us, weve never tied your greed driven country to a loan nor stolen your mineral wealth or told you to be grateful. You can come back at me with; but but but, however your Oligarchs got rich from our tax payers that your government is so up your Oligarchs hoops that you won't tax that off them either, or make them wear a suit (Musk looks like a tramp at the best of times), or say thank you is on you lot.
So you're welcome to clear off out of Europe's bizz, sooner rather than later, pack your soldiers up and take them home, leave Ukraine alone and we'll sink or swim without you. However I know you ll come back with but but you need us, which is it, you want in or you want out? Far as I'm concerned you're not allies you're former allies and we want you gone so we can get on. However with your decisions come consequences so I really hope you're man enough to admit you were wrong and gullible when you realise, but I doubt it, I've absolutely no doubt you'll double down.

This sounds a little bit unrealistic as they can even overrun Ukraine, so how will they be able to fight NATO, it sounds more like a scary scenario, but my guess is they will run out of equipment and soldiers before they conquer any NATO country. That said NATO should take the threat seriously and make sure they are armed to the teeth’s
odndodnxn@reddit
I think the theory is that right now, Ukraine has the strongest military in all of Europe. They have gotten billions upon billions of dollars in aid and military equipment and their soldiers have a very decent amount of combat experience. This is key.
If the strongest country in Europe can’t defeat Russia despite sanctions, and having been in a war economy for 3 years now, how is the rest of Europe supposed to defeat them, especially because it is currently not very well organized, it has insufficient infrastructure for war and they are inexperienced when it comes to modern day combat
neden343@reddit
Ukraine is the strongest currently because it has to be, Ukraine is mainly losing due to low manpower if they had more people Rusia will not be able to advance like this the thing about NATO is that we have more manpower.
Rusia likes to talk big all the time remember when they said its gonna take Ukraine in a few days. This is just usual Russian propaganda talk in order to scare the people.
The only way Rusia could fight NATO is by creating conflict within the NATO countries which is already doing interfering in alections.

Bit clickbait:
Germany's Federal Intelligence Service (BND) and the country's armed forces ESTIMATE that Russia views the West as a systemic enemy, is building up its military power and preparing for a large-scale confrontation with NATO.
Let's not forget that just as there's Russian and Chinese propaganda, there's also Western propaganda (which we tend to not be good at detecting), and people over here might also have vested interests in this narrative, for example, defense contractors.

the US will be affected by firestorms blocking out the sun and billions of people starving, it's on the same planet where WW3 will be happening even if magically all its adversaries sit around and pretend it doesn't exist while they use their resources to destroy the remainder of the free world
just because trump doesn't give a shit and is happy to let ukraine get destroyed doesn't mean the US would just ignore world scale conflict that could destroy the allies trump does give a shit about like israel

You know what I meant about being OP as I was replying to the other users comment.
While peace in Ukraine might be out of Trump’s control, extorting them for a mineral deal certainly doesn’t help. Much like how he exhorted Zelensky and withheld aid to get some dirt on biden.

My apologies, after reading /Dense_Department's response, I find I was gravely mistaken.
But what had to be the most amusing part of that screed is where he told you to "take a breath you seem really mad" and then teed off on world-ending predictions.

I fart in your general direction

Russia can't even take on Ukraine. Its economy is smaller than Italy and many states and it's lost over 120,000 troops since the invasion of Ukraine.
randomrealitycheck@reddit
You're light on that estimate by a factor of four or possibly more. Last credible estimate I heard was roughly 750,000 severely wounded or killed.

You're pretty sure, are you? Exactly what train of logic brought you to this precipice?
HotBabyBatter@reddit
😂 they cant even invade Ukraine. Russia would get wiped by Poland.
CBLA1785@reddit
Is this headline from the 60s? That's... that's what Russians have been doing for 50 years.
TheeVagabond@reddit
Remember when the maga cult was claiming there'd be world peace with trump in charge?
Responsible_Ad_7995@reddit
They could barely make a dent in Ukraine. They gonna ride donkeys into Poland?
Lord_Vacuum@reddit
This will be the end of you Putin. Even without USA we are strong enough to kick your ass and dismantle the Russian Federation.

To the surprise of no one. But is more something for Euro-Preppers, US-preppers don‘t seem to have to fear much about Russia.
