Putting a baker's dozen+ of underground bands on an $5 Album for wayward teens to stumble onto at the CD shop was Pure Genius

In the most uncynical way I think who ever thought of the Punk compilation albums in the 90s was a blessed genius and it fundamentally changed my life for better or for worse.

This kickstarted it all.
My southern conservative Dad (at the time) says, “Thanks Epitaph!”

Does anyone remember the song jerry jerry from one of these?

The first punk o Rama wasn’t $5. Punk o Rama 2 and after were cheap but the first one was full price.
I wanna riot

Give me the boot, Vans off the wall, punk o rama they were awesome at putting out cheap compilations.

I loved compilation albums. On some you could get like 20 songs from 20 different bands. It was a great way to expand your knowledge of the scene. And they were dirt cheap.

I remember fat records did a Short Music for short people with a 100+ bands

I randomly found one that was a two disk mp3 compilation. 150 songs per disk (300 total) and had 2 songs from each band. And had the album cover art work for each band.

It's hard to even say which 90s punk compilation was my favorite. Punk O Rama and Fat Music are so loaded with classics.

I loved these comps, but was already familiar (and in love) with a number of these bands, so it was more like an awesome premade mixtape with a few surprises.
The Fat Wreck comps and even ones like Hopeless and Vagrant helped introduce me to a bunch of new bands that I never would have found. I bought so many $10 t-shirts and cds from the Fat zine just from hearing Fat Music for Fat People and Survival of the Fattest.

Those Zines were the best. Bought so many albums through their mail order based on pics and descriptions alone.
I mailed a $20 bill and a stamped envelope to the Fat offices a couple of years ago asking them to pleeeeease send me one of those old zines if they had any lying around, and if not, for them to buy a beer with it. Never heard back. Was worth a shot🤷🏻♂️

Ah, that’s too bad. They were always good for adding a couple of free extras. I ended up with some cool posters and stickers back in the day

Discman in left front pocket, headphones slung around neck. There was probably a six year period in which Punk-O-Rama volumes 2 and 4 never left my person.

Grabbed the vinyl when it came out! Still have it!

Before Punkorama Epitaph released a compilation called More Songs About Anger Fear Death & Sex. That was my introduction to those bands. 🤘🏼

I still have the first 3 volumes. I think the second was my favorite.

Great album

The first volume was unfortunately full price at the time. The Fat and Honest Don’s ones were great as well.
