Just realized I've been around for longer since Y2K than before y2k... But y2k feels like it just happened 😭

Some small part of my brain is still trying to figure out what to do for NYE as Y2K arrives. Seems important for such a milestone to have a cool plan, right?

Y2K feels like an entire lifetime ago to me.

I remember I went to a party in the Quarter in New Orleans, got really messed up, then took a plane to Palm Springs on Jan 1 00, and there was zero people on the plane, but my half drunk ass still slept sitting up in my seat, and not across all 3

I really need to stop thinking in these terms, because every one of them will just get worse as time goes on. We're in the spot where everything I grew up on as a kid is having/will have their 40th anniversary, and everything I loved as a teen is having/will have their 30th anniversary.
At least it's a good time to be alive for anniversary vinyl reissues.

Time dilation as we age is a really real thing. As a kid hearing adults say “it seems like just yesterday” and “in childhood the days stretched out forever” etc sounded like just old-people cliches- but it’s such a real and highly bizarre thing. Childhood is like dog years, you kind of live 3-4 times more during those years, so the time we’ve spent in adulthood might be longer on paper but it doesn’t feel like it 🫠

Fun fact: if Back To The Future were made today, Marty would travel back to 1995.
Now you feel old.

I decided to get a private pilots license in 2023 and the trainer told me she was born in 02. That was my graduation year, that was the first time I ever felt old

Yeah we just had a good 8 years there where everything was ok and life was not that memorable. Almost Like we weren't at war with literally everybody, there was no pandemics, and fanaticism wasn't making a big comeback. No idea what was different.
