Hutchins or Goldee's ?

Hi all, we are traveling out to Texas soon and looking to try a great BBQ restaurant...we hear Hutchins and Goldees? They seem to be the places that always come up...is there a difference between the Frisco and Mckinney locations for Hutchins? We will be staying closest to the pecan lodge so haven't ruled it out totally...whatcha think? Thanks for any advice!

Hutchins won’t have more than a 10 minute wait. Goldees will be 3+ hours
boldjoy0050@reddit
I went to Goldees and thought it was great BBQ but no fucking way I'm ever waiting more than 15min for any type of food.
monkeyman80@reddit
That’s my overall impression of bbq. There’s quality in the highly rated but they aren’t wait 3 hours better than the very good places.
Cedosg@reddit
Why not both?
Go to Goldees early in the morning and then grab Hutchins later in the day.
Anyway, if you hadn't see this yet. Joshua Weissman did a recent video on this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8SIKtStUVM

Saw this. It was part of the reason I'm headed out there!

If it were just between Hutchins or Goldees I would pick Hutchins (McKinney).
Have you considered Hurtado?
A new location has opened in Dallas, at the Farmers Market. It is also super delicious and easier on the smoke than most Texas BBQs. It's also very delicious.

Goldee's, was just there a few weeks ago. To have a go at the full menu I would recommend getting there before 9 am. It is the #1 bbq place in Texas for a reason. Totally worth the wait in line.
boldjoy0050@reddit
They open at 11am and you get there at 8:30? Sorry, no food is ever worth waiting 2.5hr in line for. I feel like the restaurants do this shit on purpose to build up hype and because someone waited 3hr, they feel like it's significantly better than other places.

1 BBQ in Texas

Everyone saying Hutchins is overrated are contrarians. You can’t convince me otherwise
ALaccountant@reddit
Facts.
rabidwolf86@reddit
Or you could try out dfw's favorite, dickeys 😆

And then the fight started….. 🤣

Never heard of goldees, but Hutchins is always a rave about it
NintendogsWithGuns@reddit
It’s literally the #1 barbecue joint in the entire state and you’ve never heard of it?! Where are you from?
Tejanisima@reddit
Lifelong Texan here, family has lived here my entire life and I've been back in the area for the last 20 years. Never heard of the place once, and that's despite having frequently pulled up articles about barbecue places and visited several of the ones recommended. Hutchins, on the other hand, my last supervisor used to constantly urged us to go to for that Texas Twinkie thing (no matter how often I reminded her that despite my love of barbecue, I'm one of those rare Texans who doesn't like jalapeños).
NintendogsWithGuns@reddit
Literally #1 on Texas Monthly’s list for the last four years. Although, they’re doing a new list this year and we’ll see where they end up. https://www.texasmonthly.com/interactive/top-50-bbq-2021/
There isn’t a single reputable list of Texas barbecue joints that doesn’t list them in the Top 5. YouTube is littered with content from major channels talking about them as well:
Eater
Joshua “Carpetbagger” Weismann
Meat Church BBQ
Tejanisima@reddit
You understand I'm not disputing their greatness at all? I have no reason to believe they're anything less than fantastic now that I've heard of them.
Cedosg@reddit
it's not an old establishment.
it opened in feb 2020 from a group that had experience in places like Franklin, etc.

NintendogsWithGuns@reddit
The Texas Monthly barbecue list is one of the highest honors in the barbecue world and they’re extremely competitive about it. You new to barbecue or this entire state or something? They’re literally who ever food critic contacts when they want to run an article on Texas barbecue.
DefiantArtist8@reddit
Goldees is fairly "new" as far as BBQ joints go
rabidwolf86@reddit
🤷♂️ I don't pay attention, only Hutchins because my co worker keeps on talking about it
Back_To_The_Green@reddit
Don’t let that comment bother you. Goldie’s JUST got voted best BBQ in the State which a lot of people considered an absolute shock. That’s not to say it doesn’t deserve it, just that no one should fault you for not being familiar with it. Hutchins has been a staple for a long time, so it’s a known commodity.
rabidwolf86@reddit
Nah, didn't bother me. I only of Hutchins because of my co worker 😆
Optimuskind510@reddit (OP)
I hear the texas twinkie is a big draw here

Was wondering the same..lol

Had the opportunity to go to Goldees before it blew up…. They deserve that blow up!! 🤤
NaturalNose5002@reddit
Did Hurtados and Pecan Lodge in Dallas…was real good…but most of these BBQ places are running $36 a lb. My go to is Hard Eight BBQ. $24 a lb., free beans, bacon wrapped chicken and shrimp, best Banana Pudding, and a good Texas BBQ vibe.
mllllllln@reddit
I don't believe in waiting hours in line for food, so Hutchins easily.
ParsonJackRussell@reddit
Slow Bone for fried smoked chicken and fried okra then cattleack for brisket
Texas22@reddit
Big bbq fan here. I would skip Hutchins, it’s good but nothing to write home about. Go to Goldees early when you have the patience for the line, and then hit up Terry Blacks - excellent and fast, I’d recommend the pork ribs if you like that but I usually get the beef rib (singular) and spend my food budget for the week in that 😅
whytakemyusername@reddit
I gotta respectfully disagree here. Terry Blacks is great, but personally I prefer Hutchins. (I've eaten both more than I can count.)
whytakemyusername@reddit
Both phenomenal. Hutchins is classic TX bbq. It'll have maybe an hour long line if you go at 6pm on a fri & sat. Generally pretty easy to get in though.
Goldee's is really excellent. Different feel to Hutchins. Their BBQ sauce has a peach type flavor. Best Turkey I've ever had. It's a long ass line though.
If I were you, on a short time frame, I'd go to Hutchins. PS. Both locations taste identical. Don't forget your Twinkie!
NintendogsWithGuns@reddit
Goldee’s is the number one stop in the state, but you need to line up no later than 8am if you want a chance of getting anything when they open. I would honestly line up closer to 7am. Other highly rated spots are Panther City, Smoke & Ash, and Cattleack.
Hutchins is a little overrated if you ask me, but there also isn’t much of a line and it’s certainly way better than Terry Blacks. Bear in mind, Hutchins is located in the heart of transplant territory, so you’re dealing with people that don’t get out a try a ton of barbecue to begin with.
Optimuskind510@reddit (OP)
Great reply.. thanks..I have seen Cattleack on youtube...looks good 👍🏾
DefiantArtist8@reddit
Cattleack is my jam here in the North Dino
dpenton@reddit
Cattleack is real good. Their brisket and pastrami are fantastic.
drexlortheterrrible@reddit
Hutchins is overrated. Goldie's for sure.

Hutchins is okay for decent basic bbq. I never understood the hype over it, but I used to like it okay when they would have good Groupon deals.
DOME2DOME@reddit
Hutchin’s got free dessert.
Optimuskind510@reddit (OP)
🫴🏾 😂
Sanchastayswoke@reddit
Hutchins is sooo good.
thedeadlysun@reddit
Hutchins is good, you won’t have a huge problem getting in and out of there. Goldee’s on the other hand is the number 1 bbq joint in the entire state, some would argue the world. Try to get to Goldee’s and make sure you are there very early. Like 9am at the latest.
SwagKing1011@reddit
always Hutchins
