Electric departing KJYO

Just saw this weird one departing KJYO (Leesburg Executive) at noon today. Anyone know the background? Seems to be all-electric.

What's the range on this thing?
30yearCurse@reddit
250 to 330 standard miles depending on config.
battery locations around a lot of eastern US

That is one of the most bizarre aircraft I think I’ve ever seen.

It looks like they have a VTOL quad chopper like configuration. So I think that explains the design.
erhue@reddit
very interesting. Did it have the same landing gear configuration shown here? And did it roll down the runway, or just took off vertically?
StrugglesTheClown@reddit
Don't think this is a VTOL design.

It was the aircraft in the picture. This is the info page from FlightAware pulled from its flight path over Leesburg.

Very cool! The future of aviation is electric!

Not unless someone revises Physics.

Idk batteries are getting lighter... theirs been alot of new research into novel new ways to store electricity. The appeal of an aircraft that doesn't need to rely on expensive fuel and can be maintained easily is tantalizing

It is here now in FDK

That’s a lovely picture of a plane that has likely never even been built, not to mention been flown.
nothas@reddit
you could have googled it with less words than you chose to type out here
the_jak@reddit
Sadly you’re correct.
But I was pooping when I posted and didn’t take time to googled but am used to both seeing vaporware in this field and on this sub. So while it was a dumb conclusion to jump to, it wasn’t an unlikely one.
KokoTheTalkingApe@reddit
Pooping is the ONLY time I google. I think it's because of the two o's.

Actual in flight footage or bleeding edge CGI? You decide! 🤦♂️

Thanks! There’s a lot of vaporware in the field of electric aerospace and it often finds its way here. I’m glad I was wrong

Dude, I just saw it roll down the runway and take off, and looked up the track on FlightAware. Does the stupid burn much?
Avaricio@reddit
It's been flying for two years or so now.
Lord_Hardbody@reddit
There’s been pics of it flying on this sub for weeks now, and the website says they’ve flown it 40,000 nm out of a ton of airports
