She is believing what her underlings tell her? Why would Iran NOT be building a bomb? 1. They are crazies. 2. It aligns with their known behavior. OTOH, they may realize or at least think that they are completely owned militarily, and can't do anything, not even send an email, without the US (and/or Israel) knowing, and they also fear the USA having extraterrestrial technology which may be thunk.
RenegadeJedi@reddit
In all likelihood her underlings are telling her they ARE building a bomb. Which is BS. Iran is going to lean on their hyper-sonic missile tech. Why risk nuclear conflict when you have a significant advantage in conventional warfare?
juflyingwild@reddit
Sounds like racism.
CalRipkenForCommish@reddit
Just ask in the chat, I bet VP might respond (no, not the Vance guy)
TheGreenBehren@reddit
Can you explain why the Chatgate is a real story and not a nothingburger designed for clickbait?
CalRipkenForCommish@reddit
I had to reread that to see if you were actually serious. Are you being serious?
TheGreenBehren@reddit
Genuine question. If you can’t summarize in a single sentence what happened then it’s not a worthy story.
I agree with Ratcliffe you people a sick

I highly recommend reading the texts. One of the comments from Hegseth, ignoring Vance’s concerns about spiking oil prices, was that the strike would signal American power to the world. I mean, trump is withdrawing military power against Russia, the whole world is watching this. If he were to use American power to help Ukraine, now that would send a message, but hitting an Iranian proxy won’t make anyone say “wow!”.
The chats also undercut trump’s claims of wanting to be a president of peace. Again, if he wants to project strength, the single best place to do it is in Ukraine, where it would take less than a month to put Russia in a position where they would have to evacuate Ukraine in order to make a deal to keep Ukraine out of NATO. But trump always caves to Russia, so there’ll be nothing about the attack on the houthis that’ll project the strength he thinks it will. Heck, they even discussed that Americans don’t even know who the houthis are, for chrissakes.
I’ll cite from military.com, where two defense officials explained that trumps administration is striking a broader range of targets than Biden did, with less concern about the targets based on the civilian casualties that may result. We are talking about Yemen here, a war torn, destitute country. Who’s Hegseth thinking he’s projecting power to?
There’s no question trumps security team was discussing military plans on a chat that included two civilians, one of which was a journalist. Utterly unacceptable lapse in security protocol at best. None of our top security officials were aware there was a civilian included in the chat, which means they didn’t know who they were talking to, on an unsecured network, discussing a military strike, involving another country’s land, with some specificity. The journalist was the one with the good conscience to not report anything beforehand, still thinking this was some kind of setup, not an actual attack. These are Americans jet fighters going in with the understanding that OPSEC was clean - it was not.
Separately, and anecdotally, fighter pilots in r/military are documenting how you’d never share some of the information. My dad’s (Vietnam vet) best friend, who was NSA, is disgusted with the nonchalance of the language, not to mention allowing two civilians into the chat. The flippant, condescending attitude in the chat about Europe is highly disturbing. The denial that sensitive information was released is offensive because OPSEC was clearly compromised.
And this is just because they got caught. They were discussing these plans with a civilian invited in who had no authorization, yet all of these people had no interest in OPSEC while doing so, otherwise someone would have asked who is this guy here. Sloppy isn’t even where we start with this.
And if Ratcliff is your North Star on what’s sick, you gotta either be the most ignorant person in the room or you just don’t give a shit about the safety of our troops. No single sentence can describe the malfeasance in all this, and my comments don’t even scratch the surface.
TheGreenBehren@reddit
I asked you to summarize in as few words possible. You wrote a paper and then insulted my character.
Allow me to summarize for you:
They (somebody not mentioned) compromised OPSEC by including a journalist on unclassified texts through end-to-end encrypted signal. The journalist then exposed the conversation. Now somehow that makes Tulsi a traitor and everyone who supports her or Ratcliffe a traitor.
But your uncle worked for NSA so now you understand geopolitics better than an Army Major who ran for president.
Iran
China
Israel
Saudis
Everyone who uses the Suez Canal for anything literally ever at all
We are sending the world a message, friend and foe, that we don’t accept their bullshit. That we aren’t going to milk a regime change war, and yet, we’re also not going to surrender either. It’s a delicate tightrope. I don’t envy the job of politicians.
But at least I understand it.
I don’t think anyone upset about this does. It’s a nothingburger. I’m saying that as a Biden ghost writer. Tulsi, Kash and Pete aren’t conspiring against us.
Why did you come to this sub? Just to bash Tulsi? Imagine waking up and saying “yeah I’m going to hang out on the Tulsi and Elon subs today and tell people why they suck” … seriously dude grow up and get a life.
CalRipkenForCommish@reddit
You do a good job ignoring the violations of international law and resolutions we have. Even JD Vance was aware of them and what it means to conduct an attack in Yemen.
TheGreenBehren@reddit
You are losing the forest for the trees. You are so lost in the sauce that you fail to synthesize the information clearly.
You’re basically saying “everyone who has a slightly different governing style than me is a traitor” …
CalRipkenForCommish@reddit
I’ve got my head up, looking around and watching the US lose its power day by day, while you are content to put your head in the sand and say everything looks great from here.
TheGreenBehren@reddit
Again, your analysis is wrong.
The US is not losing its power long term. It was when we outsourced all of our factories to China under Clinton/Bush. It was when we put Chinese spies in my NASA research for DEI purposes. It was when we kept passing budgets under the guise of “nuclear non-proliferation” that grew the federal debt. It was when we invaded the wrong country and lost credibility around the world. But now it’s shifting where the power is located and this paradigm shift has some blowback around the world. Okay. Grow the fuck up.
But that doesn’t mean we are losing power. That just means the neo-con fairies who tricked us into INVADING THE WRONG COUNTRY like Wolfowitz are losing power. I’d like to take this moment to clearly articulate that we as the US are disowning Wolfowitz. And we are also disowning his leftwing counterpart-isan.
CalRipkenForCommish@reddit
Definitely agree the republicans led us into a staggeringly costly “war on terrorism”. Heck of a money grab for the oil folks, though.
Vance admits, in the chat, that the strikes were not defensive. You saw that, correct? The US is part of the UN Charter, prohibiting us from launching a war unless in self defense or authorized by the UN Security Council. This is where we most likely disagree on what the definition of “war” is. Again, whole issue can’t be boiled down to a sentence, as you ignorantly requested at the jump.
Aside from the “war” debate, when did trump seek confessional approval for the military strikes over there in Yemen? Latest count I’m finding is 53 dead and still no confirmation on who they were looking to take out, why they were being taken out, and whether they’ve been taken out. Never mind the fact that the US decided it wasn’t getting involved in a Saudi war in Yemen.
Now let’s get into the similarity between those “neocon” republicans we all despise for lying to get us into war with todays trump administration’s lies. Trump says the Yemen strikes were because the houthis had a blockade on Israeli ships, and thereby an attack on US economic interests and security. Can you cite for me when Houthis have done so in the past two months? I was following this regularly last year but because the attacks stopped this year I haven’t been following as much, so admittedly, I am relying on you to help me out here. I can’t find any evidence of Houthis attacking any US ships since the beginning of the Gaza cease fire in January. I’m no fan of Iran, or any of their proxies, but if they stopped attacking Israeli ships in honor of the cease fire, then they were in the right here.
I’ll finish with some questions for you - are these attacks going to continue? If so, who are they targeting and why, given they stopped the attacks on ships they considered helping Israel and, by extension, the US?
TheGreenBehren@reddit
Upon further inspection, the bigger issue is not what the attack plans may or may not have been. Let’s assume for the sake of argument there was a sort of “Operation Minced Meat” and the “attack plans” were fake.
Who the fuck let Goldberg in?
That’s the bigger question.
Waltz and then Goldberg are responsible for the leak. Then, for some dumb reason, people seem to think Hegseth is going to take the fall for Waltz and specifically Goldberg. What kind of stupid fuck reporter thought it was a good idea to publish attack plans? Whose side is he on? Is he a spy? Maybe we should focus our attention on him and not the SecDef.
HateradeAddict@reddit
Why should other people do your work for you? Are you incapable of googling this news item, digesting it, and understanding it?
TheGreenBehren@reddit
I watched the entire hearing. They aren’t doing the work for me, they’re doing it for themselves.
Perhaps you can answer the question:
What is the actual issue here? In as few words as possible.
If you cannot summarize it shortly, it’s because it’s a nothingburger.

How dare she say something that doesn't push us to a war with Iran? Off with her head.
BriefSea4804@reddit
Is she stupid? Everyone knows Iran is making a nuke.
WashedMasses@reddit
The neocons and neolibs must be losing their minds after hearing this. War with Iran has been in the works for over 10 years.

Where is my ENDLESS WAR!!!!
HokieFan10@reddit
She’s only saying this to backup trump pulling out of the Iran deal. They weren’t building a nuclear weapon until he got involved- now they definitely are: https://www.armscontrol.org/act/2025-01/news/iran-ramps-nuclear-program-ahead-trumps-return

Believed to be is one thing… are they is completely another…
unit1_nz@reddit
Hmmm. Yesterday she also believed detailed attack information wasn't classified. I'd get someone else to double check.
