What car can I put an LQ4 in?
Posted by Odd-Helicopter-2467@reddit | projectcar | View on Reddit | 69 comments

I am building my first car ever, with no prior knowledge of how to build one. I got an LQ4 and am curious what cars people recommend putting them in. I have done nothing to it so far, but I am looking to build it with a car in mind and then get the car toward the end of the build (I don't know if that's a good idea or not, just what I figured). I know a lot of people put them in trucks, but I want to put it in a car. It's a big, heavy engine, so I know it won't fit in everything. Does anyone have any tips?

Any cheap chassis FR car. Or cheap oldsmobile cutlass from 80's.
crankshaft123@reddit
Where in the world do you live that G-bodies are cheap?
People used to GIVE these cars away. Now, everyone with a rusty G-body is convinced they’ve got a classic car worth $10k.
Mobile619@reddit
Maybe a cadillac sedan. Or like a Lincoln LS.
crankshaft123@reddit
Those Lincoln’s are all in the junkyard these days. I haven’t seen one on the road in roughly ten years.
Putrid_Celery5211@reddit
Be wild, put it in a Lincoln!

Same book different page -
Put it in a mid 90s Ford Thunderbird or better yet a Mercury Cougar. Our roads still need these cars to grace them.
Where are you going to find a solid mid 90s coupe?

Good luck finding one! These things were everywhere, then they just disappeared.

I put one in a Nova and then turbo'd it. I currently have one in a CJ7 with 706 heads for higher compression. I am currently eyeing my MGB for a LS swap. Anywhere you can put a chevy small block you can put a LS easier (but not cheaper) due to no rear distributor.

Older GM trucks and cars would be the easiest and most practical option, especially if you have no prior knowledge.
theuautumnwind@reddit
For your first swap pick something with good aftermarket support. These will fit into almost anything but it does have a truck intake which is tall and can cause clearance issues with the hood on a lot of cars.
Rx7s and Miata’s are well documented. Anything that has already had a sbc Chevy in it so any mid size Chevrolet/gmc/cadillac ever.
Nissan Z’s are well documented.
RunningLowOnBrain@reddit
Almost anything if you try hard enough. I'd stick to American barges though for the larger engine bay, might need to get creative with engine mounts
Alextryingforgrate@reddit
It will litterally fit into 95% of things out there. They fit in Miatas. Just use your imagination.
