If your using a Mac for machine learning you could just live in the command line interface. To be sure, spending that kind of money creates pressure to use it for general computing as well.
You see I was an apple user for a long time, my last mbp was a late 2012 and my preferred os was snow leopard, I've used lion and mountain lion but that thing started to look like IOS and made me leave apple. Been a linux user since then.
Each time I have an interaction with a modern mac I feel kind of uncomfortable. Last time I tried to ssh into a mac iirc it started asking me for password on the desktop ui each time I wanted to change folder while ssh.. something like this I don't remember exactly..
Can I use linux packages on macos? Is there some apt or pacman package manager? Can I run virtualbox or similar, or is there only parallel desktop with their paying licence?
On Mac’s, instead of apt we use brew. Works similarly. You say like, brew install python, or whatever. As far as virtual box goes, on the M series chips is a little bit problematic. Parallels (which is paid) or UTM (which is free). Both have their advantages and disadvantages
I mean it is a Unix based OS just like GNU/Linux. Unlike Linux, which is an opensource kernel written from scratch, macOS relies on BSD. Most of the Linux packages will work out of the box without any issues.
