How do I stop People using my bins?

Update to a post I made a while ago. So Since my last post asking for advice I finally got a fence and gate put in (Huzzah!) unfortunately hasn't stopped people using my bins and now I'm getting rats and stray cats Eating through the pilling up rubbish. Despite me Barricading the gate with Bins and other heavy items people are still forcing their way in and Even propping the gate open to allow "friends" to use my bins and they're taking 0 notice of my security camera and one even threw it on the floor. Getting a Lock fitted in a few days but The rats and stray cats problems getting out of hand. Found out some of the people doing this are staying at a hotel which provides homeless accomodation across the road. Is there ANYTHING any one suggests to stop these people dumping rubbish? (Yes I've already informed the police, who are doing nothing)

Getting one fitted on Thursday, although given that They've managed to Get past all the things preventing my gate from being opened so far wouldn't put it past them picking it.

Well at least they are binning their rubbish. Should behave words with the hotel about providing actual bins for residents. You’re just experiencing a neglect.

Yep, unfortunately not all of them. Are putting it in the bins, And my yards starting to look like a mini landfill. I've put signs up but assuming they don't speak much English or don't care. I'll be speaking to the hotel in a few days if my new lock doesnt stop the problem. I was in a hotel in the same town homeless in 2023 for a couple weeks, exactly the same, didn't supply rubbish disposal so had to find public bins to put my waste in. But even I didn't go to the length of repeatedly entering a Private yard and dumping rubbish wherever it can fit 🫤

Are you able to fit locks to the bins themselves - you can get gravity locks that open when the bin is tipped up by the bin lorry, although you may need to check with your local waste comapny that that is Ok . If you haven't already, maybe get a sign that states explicitly that the area is private and that rubbish must not be left there / the bins are not available for hotel residents. And, as others have said, report it evey time as fly tipping to the council , and perhaps also make a formal, written complain to the hotel that they are causing a nusiance. This might be a situation where contacting your local conciller might be useful. It soundsas thoug hthe issue is that the residents don't have access to adequate facilities to dispose of their rubbish so the hotel may not be providing sufficient bins

Was thinking blue anti theft paint on the blue bins, but then I'd have to find a way to not get it on myself when I open the bins 😂

I second contacting the council and your local MP (and possibly local newspaper) as the more pressure you put on, the more something is likely to be done. I will be doing so as My landlords have advised me since I'm getting pests. (don't mind the cats so much but the rats are Causing a bit of damage) Just trying to figure out if its All from this hotel or others as well as it's a roughish area where I live.

You don't necessarily need to find out who's doing it. It's the council's responsibility to investigate and prosecute fly tipping. Obviously if you have photo/video evidence, that will help them identify the perpetrators. The council may be able to put up cameras as well, at no cost to you. Installing locks, a fence if you don't already, and some security spikes on top of the fence will be a deterrent as well in the meantime.

I also recommend finding the owners of the hotel and reporting their tenants. Having lived near a temporary homeless accomodation, as well as social housing tennants, it's just one problem after another.

All Homeless accomodation in my town is similar unfortunately. I was in a homeless hotel for a couple weeks in 2023 and the hotel Didn't provide rubbish disposal and the owners literally employed teenagers/Foreign speaking people to run the place. I don't blame them for trying to find somewhere to put their bin bags but even when I was in that situation I didn't Repeatedly enter Private yards which are clearly signed and blocked off 🫤

Yes it's usually the cheapest accomodation, with the cheapest staff and the cheapest facilities, which makes for a poor environment. That said, being homeless doesn't excuse their behaviour. Like you said, even if you don't have bins, that's no reason to break into someone's private land and shove their stuff in your bin.

Stick a webcam nearby (doesn't even have to be plugged in) with a twitch URL written under it? I bet 9/10 people don't even check and just assume they're being live streamed and don't bother

From what you say it's not the staff at the hotel doing this but guests. If guests are taking the time to gather rubbish and take it out the hotel mustn't be managing rubbish itself. How arsey are you feeling? Complain to the council and say people from hotel X are using my bins to deposit their rubbish rather than disposing of it as commercial waste. I'm sure others will advise but if the fly tipping is causing pests then there's a potential environmental health issue here so possibly another avenue - hotel X is fly tipping causing pests. Don't know if it'll work or it's a good idea. I'm sure others will let you know if they think this is good or bad.
