5090 Hard Crashing - Ideas how to debug?

About 30 seconds into Assassin's Creed Shadows, my PC crashes so hard it needs to be physically power cycled. This happens repeatedly as soon as the 1st scene with the female ninja starts up.
Not even the soft reboot button helps. The case and LEDs stay lit, but everything else turns off. I need to kill power at the Power Supply to bring things back.
I've tried:
- Switching from Display Port 2.1 over to HDMI 2.1. No difference.
- All sorts of Graphics Settings in AC Shadows. No difference.
- HDR enabled / disabled in Windows. No difference.
My Setup:
- ASUS GeForce RTX 5090 TUF GAMING OC Graphics Card
- AMD 9800X3d
- Asus X870E Hero
- Latest NVidia Drivers (as of 3/24). Latest ASUS BIOS as of 3/24.
- Power Supply is a "be quiet! Dark Power Pro 13 1300W", so I'm not hurting for power.
Temperatures and fan speeds are all normal & healthy. Nothing is overheating.
The system is otherwise super stable. The thing I haven't tried:
- Dropping resolution down to 4k or similar (I play on an Ultrawide).
- Switching back to my 3090, as doing that is a fair bit of work...
Anyone know how to debug this to even try to start figuring out a cause? I don't even know where to report this as a bug.

Did you ever get it working? I seem to have the same issue and it's been bothering me for days

Yup.
Turned out to be a power supply issue. I needed to switch the Be Quiet PSU into the overlock / single-rail mode. As soon as I did that all was good.

any news on this problem ? i have same issue with my 5090 astral OC...
hard crashing system, only RAM and MOBO remains "on", so i have to turn off PSU, and reboot after
i have bequiet Dark Power Pro 13 1300w PSU, and 9800x3d
to be honest dont know what to do

I'm experiencing the same issues, but only after moving from a 5900X to a 9900x3d - I've had my 5090 for \~ a month and it was gaming fine, doing AI generation, everything, in the old board, but no good here. Can't run anything more strenuous than Magic Arena without a blank screen requiring hard reset in a few minutes.

Given I'm seeing this across multiple games, it sure seems like an Nvidia driver issue. Been waiting for new drivers, but nothing yet...

I found a solution to my problems after they got progressively worse up through Sunday - my card stopped showing up to windows entirely.
Turns out the power connector was fine on my gpu side, but slightly loose in my be quiet psu. I've been 100% stable since reseating that end of the cable.

Huh. I’ll double check that, but will cry more than one tear if it’s the culprit.
Xanthos_Obscuris@reddit
Yeah, I seriously thought it had died and was hoping to start an RMA, already working with nvidia to go through the teating steps and all that. Now it's running flawlessly again. I'm thrilled but the price is that I feel like a total moron.

Have you tried a different game?
iZoooom@reddit (OP)
Not really. :)
Just got the card a day ago, and AC was released so I figured I would try.
Guess I'll go progress on "God of War: Ragnarok". Hopefully things there work a bit better!

Shadow is so new that I wouldn't be surprised if it's a problem with the game and the latest Nvidia drivers. But, it's worth testing a different game just to see.
iZoooom@reddit (OP)
Well, GoW: Ragnarok doesn’t even get to the loading screen and the PC dies.
Typing this from mobile while the PC reboots.
aragorn18@reddit
Yikes! Do you have a riser cable for some kind of vertical GPU mount?
iZoooom@reddit (OP)
Nope. Card is plugged directly into the PCI 5 slot.
So far:
I did play the Shadows through the first scene (the Samurai) with no trouble a few days ago. Gonna try a new game and see if that works.
... hopefully an Nvidia driver issue, as I just updated them earlier tonight. Probably is I can't even figure out where/how to report the bug.
aragorn18@reddit
I'm honestly not sure what's up. Sorry.
My next step would be to swap back to the old GPU.

Dropping the resolution down to 3480x2160 seems to have helped quite a bit - I played for almost 10 minutes before it crashed.
Hopefully this resolves over the next driver update...

Try to lock fps to 60, and enable vsync, if game preferences allows it. Worked for me with Helldivers 2
