You can barely find a clean and cared for 135i for under $30k. Its been over 15 years since they came out. Maybe if you want a beat to shit one with 150k miles you can take your chances with the ones going for $12k.
1M's are creeping up in value, most selling at 50-60k with ultra-low mileage examples selling on Bring-a-Trailer and Cars-n-bids for 70k.
The 135 is generally regarded as a good sports car. Maybe not the most reliable but they really are a blast to drive. Even the 128s are fun in m sport trim.
Totally different cars. I love the E82 platform and own a 128i M-sport, but it's not a sports car. It's a wonderful compromise between a comfy daily and engaging driver's car. But one of these is a dedicated-platform sports car... and it's not the one based on a 3 series.
Personally I would choose the 135i, but that's mostly because I don't love the S2k as much as one of it's cheaper competitors, the NC club Miata
I had a BMW 135i, royal blue. 6 speed manual. Wonderful car, daily driver. Then, one day at 98000 miles, it stopped going in reverse. Turns out there is a pin which works its way loose, hindering the linkage. Not repairable, new transmission = $13500 15 years ago. Kicker was this was a known issue with that model transmission for years, but since it never failed under warranty, the “engineers” never made a fix.
For those that will say it was my driving, that 98k miles was on one clutch and I changed the brakes at 75k.
If you are getting the car for the same price S2000 1000% it will appreciate in price. While the bmw 1 series has depreciated very well and held its value relative to other vehicles its not a collectors car.
But depends what you are using the car for as well
No, Canadian. I’ve driven both, the s2000 is very tight and I love it. But I also own a 135i for about 9 years now, while the s2000 is my friends. The 135i even stock can challenge modern vehicles in acceleration and speed. It would beat a s2000 on the highway and on the track. Different strokes for different folks… the 135i doesn’t handle like modern BMWs and is closer to the s2000 feel as it has hydraulic steering. Just my 0.02
The 135i has a faster Nurburgring lap time than the S2K.
Also, what do you mean the 135i isn’t a “driver’s car”? It comes factory with M suspension, an M swaybar, hydraulic steering, a manual transmission, and RWD. It had amazing speed and handling.
And I don’t think you’ve worked on BMW’s before because the N54 doesn’t have any oil starvation issues (unless the engine was very neglected) and the N55’s affected by oil starvation are xDrive F-chassis cars with the EWG N55. The 135i only came in RWD and didn’t have the newer generation N55 in 2011-2013.
Ah Nurburgring lap times, the favorite metric of NPC's that have never actually ever tracked their car
The Nurburgring is unlike 99% of tracks in the world. It's literally a 20km long high speed track that favours high power and aero. It is not representative of basically any other track open to driving for regular track enthusiasts, maybe Laguna is somewhat similar.
Yes I am not surprised that the much faster 135i is faster on that one particular track. Now, compare it to real autox and time trials. The 135i is not competitive in any class. It's a 3400lb open diff boat, with poor handling. It consistently gets destroyed by better handling cars with significantly worse power to weight ratios. Compare it to an Elantra N, a car similar in power/weight but is a fwd family hauling sedan. Compare laptimes, my local ones are mosport ddt and TMP Cayuga. They're not even in the same realm.
People with no actual knowledge or understanding of drivers cars always go straight to Nurburgring lap times because it's what (euro) manufacturers love to advertise to people that don't know any better. I have no doubt that a fast SUV like an x5m would decimate a stock s2k there in terms of lap times lmao. By your logic you would believe that to be an amazing drivers car.
The s2000 is literally the last of a dying breed. It's a super lightweight rwd car, with the most easily controllable oversteer dynamics. It has significantly better steering and significantly better front suspension (double wishbone vs McPherson strut)
Dude, the 135i is literally a base 1 series with an n54. It's not a drivers car by any means. The s2k is without exception in the top 3 favorite cars of basically every track reviewer I follow. Look at zygrenes performance index, the majority of the top 10 driving experiences he's had are s2k's, and this is a reviewer that has reviewed plenty of gt3's and other beasts.
Most BMW guys aren't actually track guys, they have no sense of what is actually a good handling car. I'm sure the 135i is definitely on the upper half of BMW's, but it's not even in the same realm as an s2k.
Yes you are correct that I haven't worked on an n54. I did heavily consider a 135i/335i both n55 and n54 and did extensive research. After months of debating, I ultimately decided not to, because all anecdotal experiences basically proved that these engines are not track capable. They're realistically perfect for making big power and for noobs wanting a fast car to speed on the highway. They are absolutely terrible platforms to track, both the n54 and n55 seem to have issues with oil starvation once you actually track them on sticky tires.
All things considered, I still like the n54 platform very much. But you need to be delusional to call this 3400 lb mediocre handling car a better drivers car than an s2k
I don’t really see any instances of oil starvation occurring in the 135i though. They’re routinely tracked and you don’t see the N54/N55 in them blowing up unless they’ve been really beat before being tracked.
The Nurburgring is a bad metric? Apparently you know better than the hundreds of car manufacturers and engineers that set the standard of handling, speed, and stress testing on the Nurburgring. This is where cars are tested. I’m sorry your little S2K is about 30 seconds slower than an “open-diff boat” on one of the world’s most famous tracks. If it was so much better, it should’ve beat the 135i.
How is the 135i base? It’s literally the step below the 1 M, which features the same engine and suspension components 🤦♂️. A base model one series would be something like a 116i.
You criticize actual track data then go on to cite some random dude’s ratings for “driving feel”.
Also, I never called the 135i a better drivers car than the S2K. All I said was comparatively the 135i is not a bad car by any means and it still has much driving capability as an S2K.
The Nurburgring is noob bait because no other track is like it at all. There's a reason why the 135i beats the s2k on the Nurburgring and loses at every other track in the world. It's perfect for NPC cars because power is unrealistically important there (handling matters when you're comparing high end sports cars to each other, but something like an s2k just cannot make up the difference due to the exceptionally long straights). The x5m also runs a very impressive time there lmao.
Honestly, it's pretty obvious who I'm talking to. Do you have any sort of track experience? What kinda times do you run at your local track? It's always people with 0 clue what they're talking about that are obsessed with Nurburgring times. It's the equivalent of Tesla owners loving 0-60.
I mean sure, the 135i definitely has the s2k beat on the Nurburgring, a track I will literally never drive on in my life. The s2k will beat it on every other track and autox course by a mile. I don't know why you think I have a stake in this, I own neither an s2k or a 135i but I am a fan of both.
The 135i is literally a base model with a nicer engine. Huge difference between an m lite and a real M.
I criticize actual track data being one very unrealistic course suited for big heavy boats. I then brought up literally every other track in the world where the 135i is uncompetitive. Maybe it'd be good at Laguna in stock form?
When's the last time the 135i even won it's class in gridlife? The some random dude is zygrene, literally one of the most respected track focused YouTubers on the planet. Savagegeese is up there too. You realize you are the random idiot in this situation, disagreeing about something you've literally never done.
The 135i is not a bad car by any means if you have no intention of doing any sort of track or autox. It definitely does not have half the driving capability of an s2k.
Show me some content of you driving your 135i on track, I'd love to see it.
As for Nurburgring being a bad metric, I've shown you why. Unfortunately, it's a great metric for manufacturers to pretend their NPC cars are sports cars. Dumb easily impressionable people who know very little about the track/autox scene will take it as word of gospel, and fast cars are rewarded there more than good handling cars. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that the actual hpde/autox scene is going to have a much better idea of how the cars perform than laptimes on one very unique course.
I've given you answers to why the 135i is faster on the Nurburgring, I'd love to hear why it's slower on every other track in the world.
You don’t know if it’s slower than every track around the world, these things haven’t been recorded dude. So we use the most reliable metric there is.
And yes, with equal drivers, an X5M is smoking an S2K on any track. A car doesn’t need to be drivers car to smoke your little four banger shitbox on any track. Hell, I’d even expect a boat 5 series to smoke your car in ANY scenario.
The fact that you think a 135i is base shows me you know nothing about BMW’s. I’m done here, clearly you’re insecure about what you drive because you’re defending your life over your own personal track times over actual metrics and statistics. I don’t care that you track your car, that’s not a source.
N54’s don’t have oil starvation. They have other problems, yes, but oil starvation isn’t one of them. If you can’t keep up with the upkeep or you don’t know how to fix your own cars then just say that. I would’ve preferred this answer.
This is the reality of the S2K: it is an overrated sports car that is worth 5 times what it should be and dumb consumers like you are the reason why it’s so needlessly expensive. You drive an overglorified 86.
Dude if only you could read. I don't even own an s2k LMAO. I do like the car very much
Selective reading ability. Dude is still ducking the question. Do you have any sort of track and autox experience?
As to lap times, there most definitely are recorded results. Gridlife saves the class podium laptimes of every season going back a decade. There are so many insanely fast s2k builds. The car with coilovers, wheels/tires, and brakes is an absolute monster. There are plenty of objective results. You can find SCAA autox results too. You can look at autox classing, where the 135i has never been competitive 😂
Yes for some reason, track and autox guys, the people who know and care most about a good handling drivers cars, value the s2k and consider the 135i an NPC boat. Meanwhile, you the NPC that has never tracked his car, believes his NPC boat to be gods gift to drivers car. I wonder who's right in this situation.
There's some serious cope. The only one defending the car they own is you. I don't own either a 135i or an s2k, but I like both cars. You just need to be realistic, the 135i is a mediocre handling car that's a great value and can make crazy power and sound great. It is absolutely not a great handling car, nor is it a more capable track car just because it has a faster Nurburgring time lmao.
Again, why do you feel so confident in your opinion in something you've never done?
No one said I never tracked my car first of all, and I’m not about to leak my location to make a point to some guy who’s clearly never driven either car.
It’s like I’m talking to someone working a dead end job who got caught with a 30% APR car loan and they need to make up figures to make themselves feel better about being financially retarded.
Okay. I believe everything I read on the internet.
You’re an alleged engineer yet you’ve never picked up a wrench in your life or understand how the N54 engine works. Get the fuck out of here dude no one’s believing your bullshit.
Your disbelief in my fairly ordinary accomplishment is more of a compliment than anything. You're in disbelief that someone actually works as an engineer at a fortune 500 company, as if the companies don't have tens of thousands of employees 😂. Is no one in your family a successful engineer. Does this shit sound like a fairy tale to you
Also, I do all the regular maintenance on my car, I'm definitely no mechanic but fluids, oil changes, brakes, wheel swaps, and bolt ons are all done by me. Not sure what you think an engineer is but no most engineers don't turn wrenches. I don't claim to be an expert of the n55/n54 but simply searching for 135/335/n54/n55 on the autox and cartrackday reddit shows you plenty of posts from enthusiasts who do own the cars. The TLDR's are, poor handling, understeer, oil starvation, and uncompetitive in their class. The information is literally right there, but you'd rather pretend the 135i isn't a base model with an n54/55 lmao.
This is how I can tell you're so far detached from education that you have no idea what an engineer is. It's not the norm for real engineers to pick up a wrench lmfao. You must be thinking of blue collared idiots that call themselves engineers when they're actually blue collared engineering technicians. I'm a professional engineer, most of us write code all day I'd argue the majority of my peers don't wrench on their cars lmao.
I refuse to believe an engineer has so much time on his hands write a novella regarding the merits of the Honda S2000. You’re either a liar (likeliest option). Or the most insecure man alive (also likely). Or you’re a retard who thinks I’m impressed by your accolades and bummed over the fact you think I’m a poli sci major.
Also, weird dig, considering all the poli sci majors I know do way more reading than any engineer.
Being purposely obtuse is so something a college freshman who’s still taking calculus when they’re getting their ass handed to them would do. Enjoy your spring break dude! Have a good one
Most people are NPC's that have never actually tracked their cars but think that they have a valid option on sports cars. The average car guy wants to believe their open diff base model luxury car is God's gift to sports cars. They cannot comprehend that a car with a faster 0-60/quarter mile might handle poorly.
People don't even track 135i's because the n55/n54 struggles with oil starvation and the car gets out handled by real enthusiast cars that cost less than it. The s2k is 100% heads and shoulders above it on track.
Idk about this, I’ve driven both and for a daily driver I’d pick the 135 any day. The S2k is without a doubt the better sports car, but the fact that you have to rev it so high to have fun with it significantly affects daily driving enjoyment.
This is truly one of the hardest this or that's I've seen my man- I would say ONLY bc I've paid to fix BMWs before I'd take the Honda bc I'd be more likely to not hold back in it the way I would not want to tear up the beemer... But man- I still could get talked into the BMW(especially after a quick drive lol)
Love both, but the 135 is the perfect little German pocket rocket for public roads. The s2000 gets fun in the higher rpm’s which can be dangerous for your average, not trained driver on a roadway.
I can't fit in the S2000. With the seat all the way back, every part of my body seems to touch something. Steering wheel has no tilt. I tried to talk myself into it, and even looked at what it would take to swap out the seats. In the end, I'm just too tall and too fat.
I drove a 135i for about 10 years. Modded it to about 500hp. I'm almost 50, and I consider it the best sports car I've ever owned, and I've owned several. I loved that car. I'd take the S2000.
I think the 135i seems to be a bit underrated. Iirc it was before the B48/58 engines were moved and their boxy proportions aren't as attractive but they seem to be decent little cars when sorted. Future classics for sure, though likely not collectible, other than the 1M.
It was a killer car. Straight line, it would smoke an S2000 without breaking a sweat even before I put in bigger turbos. In stock trim, I bet it would be competitive against an S2000 even on a very twisty track and with the suspension and brake work I put I to mine, I could surprise M3s and some 911s on the track. But the S2000 is revered as a purists driver's car, and even half decently maintained is approaching collectors status. Unless you needed the 135's barely functional back seat, the S2000 is clearly the answer here.

No contest. Honda by a country mile. More fun. Open roof. Quick AF. Never find yourself on the hard shoulder with a paralysed car. BMWs are lovely but Japanese engineers are smarter.
That’s a replica.
That colour was not offered from factory and the interior doesn’t have the alcantara with orange stiches.
Still, a great build.
I love 1M clones.
I have a miata so go cart like car is covered. Plus ive always had japanese cars. I think i’d like to feel what it’s like to drive a powerful german car sometime so I’m going 135
Now this is a big dilemma.
I'd say the s2k because its not only a legendary car but as a miata owner the convertible feel just can't be replaced.
Besides you have an immortal engine from honda and a bmw
Go drive them. I was debating an S2000 or E93 and after I went and test drove each realized quickly that while the s2000 is an amazing car, it is also a very tiny car and for me I barely fit. Maybe one day when I’m looking for a purely fun car I’ll come back to the S2000 but for me it’s just to small to be even a little practical as a second car.
I hate that I'm responding but I'm so sure that a miata or a gr86 would be a better choice. I'm happy enough with my c5 that cost half as much as an equivalent s2k.
S2K all day every day. The 135 will cost 3x the purchase price in 10 years of maintenance. The S2K will continue to appreciate in value at least 3x over the same 10 year span.
How about a Z4 M Roadster? I have the s2000 as a daily for about 6 years and loved it. It could do with more power though. I think the extra 100 hp of the z4 m roadster/coupe give it that extra joy.
135i for me. They’re both fantastic cars, but it’s personal preference. I much prefer how a BMW feels compared to Honda/Acura. Though if you told me I could only own 1 Honda it’d be the S2K or an Integra Type R
Would 100% take the s2k...both because I like my Honda's but also idk about other countries but over here in the UK people tend to see a BMW badge and instantaneously think "twat" I'm not saying it's right or that I approve or even that it should dictate whether or not you buy a BMW I'm just saying that BMWs tend to have a stereotype attached to them sadly
as someone who owns a 135i, if you don't like having a savings account, the 135i. I'm half kidding, but when something does break, and it will, it wont be cheap. I do think the S2k is a little bit more special of a car than the 135i, but I also believe the 135i is the last of the true "drivers cars" from BMW.
Both are solid cars, it really just depends if your wallet can accommodate the love of the BMW
I hope you have plenty of disposable income with either choice. Both a problem cars. I would research the S2000 engine issues before pulling the plug on it, and the BMW will be an oil leak and electrical module nightmare. If you like fixing cars either would be a good choice.
S2K hands down. Admittedly I’ve not driven it, but have admired the tidy spec and displacement / weight ratio in the 135. Driving one might change my mind. That said, I’ve had both an AP1 and an AP2. Then I got an MKII TTS. I’ve now had an R8 V10 Spyder for years, which I love. But wow that AP2 S2K was and is such an amazing car to drive. You can docile and daily it but also you can bang on it forever and it just rips. Dynamically it’s right up there with the R8 and with that beautiful tranny, RWD and low weight…wow. Yeah writing this says the beemer won’t convince me lol. S2K baby.
Depends on the price. Drove both and imo the s2000’s pretty overrated it wasn’t much different from my rx8. If the s2000s 40k then absolutely not but if its 15-20 then maybe
I own an M2, have driven an S2K and have also owned an S15. I mention the M2 and the S15 because there are some common themes there with the 135i and S2K respectively.
If you will only have 1 car, the pick is the 135i as the extra 2 seats and space is a massive bonus. If you have a second car, then the S2K will be the pick because it is far more raw and more of a driver's car in that it weighs nothing and has an insanely rev happy engine with a flawless manual transmission.
Now if I was in a position to have two cars, I wouldn't actually pick the S2K, I'd pick an S15. Honestly the S2K I drove was in mint condition, but it didn't even come close to the S15 in terms of driver enjoyment.
I’ve got a 1M and an S2000. They’re both fun in different ways. The S2k is definitely more of a go-kart, direct, raw experience. You didn’t say what you need in the car, if you need some cargo space go with the 135. If it doesn’t matter, go for the S2k.
The only reason I've owned a 135i and not an S2000 is I barely fit in the Honda. Assuming that is not an issue here, get the S2000. The 135i is a great car with a lot of tuning potential, but owning an aging N54 can be frustrating. Turbos, injectors, HPFP, water pump, semi-regular walnut blasting are all expensive issues that you will run into. The N55 135i examples are a bit better mechanically, but still less special to drive than the S2k.
Interior being better is subjective, despite the s2k seats being notoriously put into other cars as a good upgrade - this suggesting at least the s2k seats are MUCH better.
But hey, s2k values vs the 135 values proves the s2k is better and more sought after because it's a more engaging drivers car.
Wait, why am I trying to convince someone with a Fabia as their flair?? Even if it's a joke, you thinking it's witty proves you have terrible taste.
It's such a fun-orientrd car, with an amazing engine and very good suspension. You can throw this thing around corners as much as a Miata, and it's faster that the little Mazda.
The BMW can be driven daily and still be taken to a track. It gets beaten by the Honda in shifter feel, throttle response, and at small track or autocross.
The Honda is the opposite. Impractical, pain in the ass to drive in traffic because you have no torque. But it’s very rewarding to drive as long as you don’t mind being slow at big tracks.
I have a 128 (lower power 135 and less sporty etc) but honestly the S2k is a much better sports car. The 135 is if you want a sporty DD that somehow manages to not be very reliable lol
Completely depends on your usage. Although the Honda is going to be arguably more fun and reliable it is going to be way less practical. If this is a second car for you I’d say Honda for sure. If it’s your only car I’d go BMW simply because of practicality however you’ll be spending more on maintenance and repairs.
idk i know the 1 series is supposed to be so nice bcthe short wheelbase but I always felt like it compromises some of the character and specialness of bmw..maybe i’m full of shit lol

Your 135i is not beating it on the track lol. The n55/n54 platform can't even handle track use due to oil starvation.
Completely different cars. It's like a Tesla, faster in a straight line for sure. Much much less of a driver's car.
Throw reasonable mods at both, the s2k is a much much much better platform while the 135i is a cruiser with potential to make a ton of power.
Opje-45@reddit
The 135i has a faster Nurburgring lap time than the S2K.

Lolololurgay@reddit
Opje-45@reddit
Lolololurgay@reddit
Opje-45@reddit
Lolololurgay@reddit
Opje-45@reddit
No one said I never tracked my car first of all, and I’m not about to leak my location to make a point to some guy who’s clearly never driven either car.
Lolololurgay@reddit
Ah, must be talking to a poli sci student or something. It's like I'm talking to a rock
Opje-45@reddit
It’s like I’m talking to someone working a dead end job who got caught with a 30% APR car loan and they need to make up figures to make themselves feel better about being financially retarded.
And okay, kiddo, I own 20 Ferrari’s. GTFO 🤣
Lolololurgay@reddit
Eh, I'm actually a silicon design eng at a top 50 company in Fortune 500. I made 180k right out of university, it's enough for me
I think I was spot on about the poli sci part though, no wonder you think a 135i is as much of a drivers car as an s2k 😂
Opje-45@reddit
Okay. I believe everything I read on the internet.
You’re an alleged engineer yet you’ve never picked up a wrench in your life or understand how the N54 engine works. Get the fuck out of here dude no one’s believing your bullshit.
Lolololurgay@reddit
Opje-45@reddit
Bro it’s Thursday afternoon. Stop the cope, I’m not reading your essay on why you’re so accomplished, go do your spreadsheets.
Lolololurgay@reddit
Smartest poli sci major! Ofc 3 paragraphs are too much for him
Opje-45@reddit
I refuse to believe an engineer has so much time on his hands write a novella regarding the merits of the Honda S2000. You’re either a liar (likeliest option). Or the most insecure man alive (also likely). Or you’re a retard who thinks I’m impressed by your accolades and bummed over the fact you think I’m a poli sci major.
Also, weird dig, considering all the poli sci majors I know do way more reading than any engineer.
Lolololurgay@reddit
Cope more. Sorry your shit box isn't the sports car you wish it were. I didn't know engineers didn't have free time to argue on reddit 😂
Stupid people love to talk on topics they know nothing about. It's probably not your fault though, daddy must have eaten too many crayons growing up.
Opje-45@reddit
No, I just refuse to be believe salaried engineers spend 10 hours of a workday arguing online with a stranger about their insecurities.
Maybe get through differential equations first then I’ll consider you an engineer kiddo.
Lolololurgay@reddit
That conversation took you 10 hours? You must be a poli sci major after all!
Opje-45@reddit
Being purposely obtuse is so something a college freshman who’s still taking calculus when they’re getting their ass handed to them would do. Enjoy your spring break dude! Have a good one

Opje-45@reddit

borth1782@reddit
You lile your own car the most. Wow.
HoldMySkoomaPipe@reddit
They’re certainly very different vehicles and both excellent drivers cars , just pointing out that the 135i is quicker and faster in most situations.
borth1782@reddit
Its not even close to being as fast anywhere where there are a lot of tight corners. The s2k also turns heads, a 135i reeeally doesnt.
Lolololurgay@reddit
Most people are NPC's that have never actually tracked their cars but think that they have a valid option on sports cars. The average car guy wants to believe their open diff base model luxury car is God's gift to sports cars. They cannot comprehend that a car with a faster 0-60/quarter mile might handle poorly.
People don't even track 135i's because the n55/n54 struggles with oil starvation and the car gets out handled by real enthusiast cars that cost less than it. The s2k is 100% heads and shoulders above it on track.
SolipsistSmokehound@reddit
Check the top of my profile for a glimpse of what you’re in for with the S2000.

Viend@reddit
Idk about this, I’ve driven both and for a daily driver I’d pick the 135 any day. The S2k is without a doubt the better sports car, but the fact that you have to rev it so high to have fun with it significantly affects daily driving enjoyment.

Love both, but the 135 is the perfect little German pocket rocket for public roads. The s2000 gets fun in the higher rpm’s which can be dangerous for your average, not trained driver on a roadway.
JackfruitCrazy51@reddit
I can't fit in the S2000. With the seat all the way back, every part of my body seems to touch something. Steering wheel has no tilt. I tried to talk myself into it, and even looked at what it would take to swap out the seats. In the end, I'm just too tall and too fat.

pirikikkeli@reddit

reidlos1624@reddit
I think the 135i seems to be a bit underrated. Iirc it was before the B48/58 engines were moved and their boxy proportions aren't as attractive but they seem to be decent little cars when sorted. Future classics for sure, though likely not collectible, other than the 1M.
bootyfischer@reddit
Had me in the first half ngl
Oni_K@reddit
It was a killer car. Straight line, it would smoke an S2000 without breaking a sweat even before I put in bigger turbos. In stock trim, I bet it would be competitive against an S2000 even on a very twisty track and with the suspension and brake work I put I to mine, I could surprise M3s and some 911s on the track. But the S2000 is revered as a purists driver's car, and even half decently maintained is approaching collectors status. Unless you needed the 135's barely functional back seat, the S2000 is clearly the answer here.
Regular_Passenger629@reddit

That’s a 1M, they’re worth like 100k usd
Me-no-Weeb@reddit
Yes, but where I live even the normal 1 series coupes are very rare, although I don’t see many s2000 I see them often compared to 1 series coupes
sspkt@reddit
Honestly It is tough as hell.
rhodesman@reddit
as someone who owns a 135i, if you don't like having a savings account, the 135i.
AlDenteApostate@reddit
Golly if this isn't the truth. Still have nightmares about that BMW chime that goes off along with one of the warning lights on the dash.
spas2k@reddit
Honda s2000 of course. 135 is a fun but soft and muted compared to the s2k.
Egoist-a@reddit
Not this 135i with a 1M wannabe kit.
S2000 will always be more valuable, it's a Halo Honda car, the 135i is fantastic car but will always be in the shadow of the 1M
speederaser@reddit
Uhoh. Poor person detected.
yousaresheep@reddit
Mmm.... car, manual car.
hi9580@reddit
Honda is a better/less comfortable sports car
HeroMachineMan@reddit
S2000 for ne. Pure NA rush.
shotstraight@reddit
I hope you have plenty of disposable income with either choice. Both a problem cars. I would research the S2000 engine issues before pulling the plug on it, and the BMW will be an oil leak and electrical module nightmare. If you like fixing cars either would be a good choice.
Squbasquid@reddit
S2k all day.
gregm12@reddit
Do you want the fastest car or the most fun/engaging car?
rapuyan@reddit
S2k all day
audigraffy@reddit
S2K baby.
rahim770@reddit
Depends on the price. Drove both and imo the s2000’s pretty overrated it wasn’t much different from my rx8. If the s2000s 40k then absolutely not but if its 15-20 then maybe
Steven_camaro@reddit
I'm not sure why this is a question. S2000 all the way.
OGAzdrian@reddit
Are you choosing between the two or is just a general Reddit question?
S2000 regardless
stillusesAOL@reddit
The S2000 feels genuinely slow unless you rev it way out, which you might not always want to do.
Mista_J504@reddit
135 all day
Ferrever@reddit
SmilinBuddha969@reddit
S2000, hands down.
Key-Percentage-7506@reddit
S2k, also I am surprised at the overwhelming majority of people who share my opinion
Retro-Lemunz@reddit
S2000 it ain’t even close lol
Derp_Face123@reddit
I feel like this question also depends on how tall the driver is lol. S2k gets cramped if you’re bigger than small.
Ratxat@reddit
Lol
surenopemaybe@reddit
S2000. It is just a special car. I hope to never sell mine.
orca_venator@reddit
My heart and dong say BMW, brain and wallet say s2000
iDuck_OG@reddit
S2k all day
House_King@reddit
That’s a 1M so definitely that. So much more special, unique, and will hold value a lot better than the s2k.
Handsomelad42@reddit
Im a honda elitist. But that BMW is something. Same family as the M2 (F87) and M3 (E46)
caddyax@reddit
S2k for sure. And I’m a BMW owner and fan
alexanderh24@reddit
S2k is a better drivers car and will always be worth a good amount of money.
k20vtec@reddit
This is an extremely tough one and I'm a Honda guy
87RegalTurboT@reddit
S2000 if it has not been molested.
E8282@reddit
Going 135i all day but I’m biased and haven’t driven an s2000. Might be time to go car shopping.
ionlytouchmangos@reddit
have had both by far s2k for pure driving exp
catheterhero@reddit
imho the bmw steering feels electric and disconnected from the driving experience while you feel the road on the Honda.
The low stance and cornered wheels makes it a lot of fun to semi-fast in slow areas.
darjaybon636@reddit

Cali_Hapa_Dude@reddit
I’ve got a 1M and an S2000. They’re both fun in different ways. The S2k is definitely more of a go-kart, direct, raw experience. You didn’t say what you need in the car, if you need some cargo space go with the 135. If it doesn’t matter, go for the S2k.
cooljer88@reddit
The guy that bought my 135i had an s2k funnily enough
cooljer88@reddit
The guy that bought my 135i had an s2k funnily enough
killminusnine@reddit
The only reason I've owned a 135i and not an S2000 is I barely fit in the Honda. Assuming that is not an issue here, get the S2000. The 135i is a great car with a lot of tuning potential, but owning an aging N54 can be frustrating. Turbos, injectors, HPFP, water pump, semi-regular walnut blasting are all expensive issues that you will run into. The N55 135i examples are a bit better mechanically, but still less special to drive than the S2k.
irascible_Clown@reddit
Drove both and the only answer is 2k
AngryScottish@reddit
That BMW is basically a NPC compared to the S2K. Sure, it makes more power and has better storage, but everything else is worse.
Pentilian@reddit
What is worse? The interior is better in bmw. The bmw is more practical and more powerful. Its the obvious choice unless you are a jdm meat rider.
AngryScottish@reddit
Interior being better is subjective, despite the s2k seats being notoriously put into other cars as a good upgrade - this suggesting at least the s2k seats are MUCH better.
But hey, s2k values vs the 135 values proves the s2k is better and more sought after because it's a more engaging drivers car.
Wait, why am I trying to convince someone with a Fabia as their flair?? Even if it's a joke, you thinking it's witty proves you have terrible taste.

S2000. The BMW would need to be at least an M car to even bother warranting a discussion.

Honda easily
nday-uvt-2012@reddit
At 6’4”, 220, I wouldn’t fit in either one. So, I don’t care.
thatkidwithayoyo@reddit
S2k easy, but get a driver's airbag put back in.
TheRealTechGandalf@reddit
S2K all the way!
It's such a fun-orientrd car, with an amazing engine and very good suspension. You can throw this thing around corners as much as a Miata, and it's faster that the little Mazda.
lumpialarry@reddit
Honda S2000, if you have a garage.
mr_lab_rat@reddit
They are both great in their own way.
I would decide based on the intended purpose.
The BMW can be driven daily and still be taken to a track. It gets beaten by the Honda in shifter feel, throttle response, and at small track or autocross.
The Honda is the opposite. Impractical, pain in the ass to drive in traffic because you have no torque. But it’s very rewarding to drive as long as you don’t mind being slow at big tracks.
lavaenema@reddit
I've owned 3 examples of both of these cars. AP1 and N54. It's not even close; The S2000 is on another level.
makkrs@reddit
Think that the s2k will keep better value down the line, iconic car

S2k
overlycomplexname@reddit
From a bmw guy…the s2k ofcourse.
akoch1337@reddit
I personally get more excited to see a nice S2K than any 1 Series coupes, but certainly a tough choice.
David_Summerset@reddit
I love BMWs, but the S2K is sports car royalty.
icebrandbro@reddit
I have a 128 (lower power 135 and less sporty etc) but honestly the S2k is a much better sports car. The 135 is if you want a sporty DD that somehow manages to not be very reliable lol
VampyreLust@reddit
S2K all day but they're oddly expensive, at least in my country, good ones that haven't been through the F&F treatment go for like $50k
Eon4691@reddit
135
nickw252@reddit
If it’s between those exact cars, BMW. I’m not driving a car with the airbag removed.
Kilogeens@reddit
Both of those cars look the dogs bollocks, I couldn’t even decide
buttlord5000@reddit
Not even a debate. The S2K is special. It's a celebration and a tour de force. The Beamer is just a little car for middle managers.
rbxk@reddit
Of this generation the BMW 130 is actually the holy grail as it is the strongest and last 3l natural aspiring engine model of the 1 series.
Starlight_Seafarer@reddit
Honda S2000
Raynenean@reddit
BMW is a funboy car. Honda ftw
SR70@reddit
Completely depends on your usage. Although the Honda is going to be arguably more fun and reliable it is going to be way less practical. If this is a second car for you I’d say Honda for sure. If it’s your only car I’d go BMW simply because of practicality however you’ll be spending more on maintenance and repairs.
FirstGearPinnedTW200@reddit
I used to think the 135 was a good looking car, then you did this little comparison. Thing is hideous compared to the s2k.
IS-2-OP@reddit
It’s just not a good looking car without the 1Ms widebody. The 2 series looks much better.
fistathrow@reddit
S2000 is the best one. An investment for sure.
asdfcrow@reddit
idk i know the 1 series is supposed to be so nice bcthe short wheelbase but I always felt like it compromises some of the character and specialness of bmw..maybe i’m full of shit lol

The S2K any day

Jesus Christ, that s2k is a dream. I love the interior

Everyone saying the Honda is crazy reliable obviously has never owned an F series engine. This isn’t your typical K series.
That said, these are very different cars and it depends on what you want from the vehicle.
CongoCitizen@reddit
S2000 one of the best shifters I’ve ever felt. BMW 1m was one of the worst shifters I’ve ever felt. I imagine the 135 is even worse. Honda all day.
