Does CLP work as a regular drivers license? (Oregon)

I got my commercial learners permit today, and I was surprised that they punched a hole in my drivers license. Seeing as the CLP is just a permit, I would of thought I would still need my drivers license.
Does that mean CLP includes the privileges of a regular license for my personal vehicle, or is this a mistake by the dmv? If this is a mistake, any advice on how I should approach this?
Thanks!

I'm assuming they gave you a paper copy. Nevada gave me a paper copy and hold onto my punched license so that I had something with my photo on it. You are still legal to drive around in none commercial vehicles with the permit

Yes they gave me a paper one. Intuitively it seemed strange to me that I could drive non-commercial with a "permit" so I thought the dmv made a mistake. It's good to know that it's a normal thing. Thanks!

Yes. You’re not going to have two separate licenses. So your class D is baked in to your commercial.

So a permit is still considered a license? I expected the cdl to render my old license useless, but I wasn't expecting them to punch the hole just for getting the permit.

Ya if you get pulled over you have to show it. If its a paper copy and you buy cold medicine at the store just show them your regular id

Yes. You can’t have a commercial permit without having a class D. So it is assumed that your permit covers class D.

Great! Thanks for clarifying, that makes me feel better. I have a friend who just got his permit too, and they didn't punch his old license, so they clearly messed up on one of us, and I was afraid it was me. I just didn't want to get pulled over and be in trouble for something. I appreciate your help!
