Access denied when adding printer

I have this printer issue that I’m trying to resolve . Some of my users are not able to add printer off the print server on their computers which prompt them asking for admin credentials and when inserted it says access denied. I had that same user log onto another computer they were able to add the printer without an issue. when I log into that computer that’s having the add printer issue with my admin account I’m still not able to add the printer as well I keep getting Access denied.

Are u handling the credentials in front of the user pc or remote? Caps lock or keyboardlanguage might be different on this pc.

Infront of the pc and the credentials were entered correctly . Its weird because the users should not even need admin credentials to be able to add the printers

Is the UAC to strict? What happens if u lower the UAC settings? Did u check GPOs? Do users install the printer via networkshare for example over explorer or do they install the printer via control panel? What happens if u try to install the printer manually via ip adress? Are there any specific error messages? What is the systemlog saying?

They usually get it off the print server via file explorer. When I try from print & scanner all I’m seeing are the old servers stuff .
When I add the printers by their up address they seem to be working

i suggest to set the unc on lower settings and try if its working. Also try to upgrade your print driver to a V4 driver

If the pc doesn’t have the driver already installed then it will need admin rights by default, if the driver itself is there then adding a printer won’t need admin

Pre-install the printer drivers on the pc with an account that has admin rights. Then the users will be able to add them from the server when logged in as themselves.

I do this but use a batch script to run as the PC not user. Can also be done with Intune but remember the pnputil needs to be called using sysnative.

Maybe related to the old PrintNightmare stuff?

Ding ding ding

Exactly this. You need to pre-install the matching drivers to the PC.
