Worth moving?

So I live in the southwest, I got a decent gig making good money working 4 days a week, plenty of time with my children. Problem is it sucks here, it’s not safe where I live and I want better for my kids. I was trying to move to Utah but finding a decent apartment has been a challenge, my grandfather live up in New England and has wanted us to stay with him for a while and I’m fine with it, but the problem is he lives far from everything, it’s a minimum 46 minute drive to any trucking company if not 1 hour. Does anyone here drive that far to work everyday? Is it worth it? Just seems like I’m not going to be able to have a life if I do it.

No.

If you like the job overall, can you just move to a better neighborhood/area? If you're willing to drive 45 or more minutes one-way after moving across the country, why couldn't you do that where you are now?

I’m in Arizona, it’s just too hot, and people are crazy. I think we decided we all want to be where it snows at this point.

Have you considered Flagstaff or Kingman? Phoenix really is shitty, but Arizona has a lot of nice places.

Arizona is beautiful, just no local work in other places.

Really? I imagined Flagstaff would at least of local delivery to restaurants, gas stations, etc

Alot of that stuff comes out of the valley

I live 40 miles from where I work in LA. Takes me 1hr 30mins to get to work everyday, 40 mins to get back.
This is not the exception but the norm for most people. I think it's worth living further out to have a nicer neighborhood but that's just me.

I drive a hour to work everyday, I haul fuel so it’s worth it for me.

An hour isn't that bad at all. It all depends on the kind of trucking you'll be doing. An hour everyday can get exhausting. But an hour once a week isn't bad at all.

I drive an hour each way. There's a few places closer, but my current job pays much better and I generally just go out for 2 or 3 days at a time to save from commuting everyday. But the handful of time I run a 14 and turn and burn into another 14 while commuting home in between suck. It does keep me away from my family more than I'd like, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Get some home security and lay low, I you might feel a bit of survivors guilt for prospering in a low income area but just keep it moving and stay humble you should be ok. If you can afford a better area where your kids can be comfortable and have a better education then go for it.

I wish I had a grandparent to help out with the kids I’d eat the commute to work. That’s just me

I used to live 45 minutes from my job as a semi local flat bed driver. It really sucked working 12 hours a day with almost an hour commute each way, 14+ days were absolutely brutal. You only have time to shower, eat something and get bitched at by the old lady for never being home. Take a nap and back to the grind.

Just curious why did you land on Utah? Seems expensive to live there

Depending on where I didn’t think it was too bad. Honestly it’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever spent time, and I’ve been all over. I went for Salt Lake City, but spent some time in Ogden and immediately wanted to move there. I’m currently in Phoenix.

I used to drive 3 hours one way. You gotta do what you gotta do. Probably not the best use of my time and cost of operating my car now that I look back. But at the time I had to do it and I needed the flow of cash. I lasted about 4 weeks before I threw in the towel and found something better and more importantly. Closer. Honestly 45 mins ain’t too bad. It would be if it were through some heavy dense ass cities.

Nah it’s not terrible just woods and back roads. Combine that with a 10-13 hour day 5 days a week it just seems too much.
