Firefox72@reddit
There's realisticaly no reason to ever consider the XT if you can find the 9070XT at the same price.
Its at worst on part raster wise but most often faster. Its faster in RT and it has much much better upscaling.
Serpidon@reddit
I just got a Power Color 7900 XT at Microcenter for $699. I would have liked to have waited, but I just built a new system and I wanted a better card than my current 3060 Ti. The 7900 XT so far is great, I game at 1440P.
SeriesFlat4246@reddit
I got my xfx 7900xt about 2 weeks ago for the same price, and I just went to the microcenter in Texas. There are more than 8 5070s, 4 5080s, and at least 10 9070XTs 😫. I’m happy with my 7900xt tho
Serpidon@reddit
Nvidia prices are stooopid. I can’t decide if the XTX’s are worth the price, I might have gotten one had it been available.
National_Smell6579@reddit
My friend got a txt near release date for only about 800-900 i believe, and she said that for the price when she got it, it was worth the money but she would not recommend buying it now that its $1300 haha
Serpidon@reddit
Insanity!
ThePageinator@reddit
Same, picked one up from there today for $599 and I'm upgrading from of MSI 1660 super. 9070xt is too new for me and good luck getting one at a good price as well.
Serpidon@reddit
The difference is incredible! The 7900 XT is 2x as fast as my 3060 Ti, you will be amazed!
edged_cheese@reddit
how much is significant
ShadyGuyOnTheNet@reddit
Some retailers in the UK have started offloading 7900 XT for ~£475 which is wild (9070 XT MSRP is £569, but you can’t buy them for under £650)
Positive-Agent1577@reddit
Where?!
ShadyGuyOnTheNet@reddit
CCL had them at that price, probably gone now
Vb_33@reddit
7900xt has more VRAM. That's it.
mr_tolkien@reddit
The 7900XT is cheaper than the 9070XT here in Japan.
But no FSR4 is a bit of a deal-breaker.
myfakesecretaccount@reddit
FWIW I have this card and have never needed any kind of FSR support to play games at essentially Ultra/1440p. Jedi Survivor ran at just over 100fps with all settings maxed and RT off with decent temps and zero fan noise. RT (which doesn’t even look great on this game, and likely had shit implementation) only dropped my frames to ~80fps when turned on and without FSR.
Jeep-Eep@reddit
And this is just with the first spin of drivers, that gap will worsen as the software matures.
anor_wondo@reddit
in VR 9080xt is beyond terrible
advester@reddit
And 7900xt isn't?
Visible_Witness_884@reddit
No issues for me in VR.
Disguised-Alien-AI@reddit
lol, no. It works amazingly well. It’s a VR power house. That’s on index and q3.
ProperAspectRatio@reddit
Is that a driver issue or something else going on?
Not_Yet_Italian_1990@reddit
It's almost certainly a driver issue.
TFL2022@reddit
Care to elaborate?
ysisverynice@reddit
probably vram
just_change_it@reddit
I don't think it's a deal. I think it's an inflated price that hasn't quite come down to reality yet.
Antonis_32@reddit (OP)
TLDR: At the same price, he would choose the RX 9070 XT. Similar performance, better ray tracing and upscaling
ParthProLegend@reddit
Just Similar performance? With rt, it's a huge fps difference, and with FSR 4 a huge quality difference. And better AI.
Visible_Witness_884@reddit
Yes - but is it in any way worth taking the hit on selling your already fine 7900 XT to get 10% better performance and better RT in a few titles? Seems not worth it.
ParthProLegend@reddit
It's simple, if you need Upscaling or RT or AI, go for 9070xt otherwise 7900xt. (Also new products have better support)
Visible_Witness_884@reddit
I'm on a 4k monitor, I use upscaling in a few games. I have a 7900 XT. I don't see a world where it makes sense selling the 7900 XT to replace it with the 9700 XT.
ParthProLegend@reddit
I meant it for a person who is deciding between 7900xt and 9700xt. Sorry mate.
Q__________________O@reddit
But i already have a 7900 xt
wizfactor@reddit
For the longest time, we had a DLSS Tax. Now there is also a FSR 4 Tax, which, like the DLSS Tax, is arguably worth paying extra for.
Cloud_Same@reddit
I currently have both and both a 7900xt and 9070xt went with fresh driver install and I see more consistent frames on the 7900xt. The 9070xt also has driver crashed on me quite a bit.
IS3002JZGTE@reddit
building a pc at microcenter for my son. 7800x3d bundle and they have the 7900xt for 599.99 and the 9070xt for 599.99. which one should i buy?
Cloud_Same@reddit
If there the same price but the 9070xt. If they are the same price. It's rocky now but after some time drivers will mature and the fps will increase.
robytm25@reddit
Of sins or not...I got my 7900Xt nitro+ sapphire in January 2025...I don't think I will sell it to try to find in stock a 9070xt. I don't know if it's worth it for now 🤦♂️🤷♂️
Zero_exe_exe@reddit
For the loss you take in selling used then buying + taxes for 10% performance? Not worth it.
Save your money. 7900XT is an absolute power house.
RahbinGraves@reddit
Same. I'll wait until AMD does another enthusiast card or until the AI stuff has more time to cook
King_Air_Kaptian1989@reddit
I got both.
I get VRAM limited occasionally on the 9070XT at 4k with MSFS. But not all the time. They are both good and performance is exactly the same in the few games I play. I mainly do flight aim
Zero_exe_exe@reddit
Then off depth of field and anti aliasing. I 4K, don't use those. Frames go way up!
Hombremaniac@reddit
As an owner of 7900XT Nitro+ nothing from this gen, both Nvidia and AMD, pushes me to upgrade. Also once some version of FSR4 gets implemented for RDNA 3, that alone will prolong the life of my GPU considerably.
Zero_exe_exe@reddit
I got the XFX 7900XT. Absolute power house of a GPU, it 4K 120hz everything I throw at it.
I don't preset ultra. It's a PC, not a PlayStation, so I adjust each game settings. I generally turn off Anti Aliasing (not needed for 4K with pixel density) and I turn off depth of field. Easy 120hz all day.
hunterczech@reddit
Rtx 5090 would be solid upgrade, but it's expansive af and you will get the burning cables lol.
Hombremaniac@reddit
Such gpus I consider to be for people using them for work or those intend on burning lots of cash. I'm in neither of those groups.
max1001@reddit
If you already have 7900xtx, not really worth it to upgrade. If you are in the market for a new gpu, it's a pointless comparison as you can't even buy a 7900xtx. They been out of stock for several months already.
r_z_n@reddit
7900XT, not XTX.
max1001@reddit
Neither has been in stock for awhile. GPU buying experience isn't like it was 5 years ago when the older gen gets a price cut when newer gen comes out.
Glad-Experience6432@reddit
Where are you that a 7900xt is out of stock😭
r_z_n@reddit
Yeah I understand I was just pointing out the video is a comparison between the 7900XT and not the XTX.
TurtlePaul@reddit
I feel like if you have a RTX 3800 / RX 6800 or greater, then the starting point should be "congratulations, you own a modern GPU" given that there is nothing in stock.
max1001@reddit
It is a free upgrade if you can find a newer one at MSRP. Coworker won the 5090 FE lotto from Nvidia priority list. Sold his old 4090 for $2k and about even.
Visible_Witness_884@reddit
But since a 7900 XT can't be sold at that price, it's quite an expensive upgrade.
Strazdas1@reddit
if you have a 6800 then you dont have a modern GPU. No RT or AI upscaler makes it not a modern GPU.
Strazdas1@reddit
if you already have 7900 XTX then the only upgrade path is nvidia. this comparison is against 7900 XT
Judge_Bredd_UK@reddit
It comes down to price, I got my 7900xtx for £750 but if I were buying now I'd go 9070xt for the same price range. If you can get it significantly cheaper though then I'd still recommend a 7900 card.
labree0@reddit
If you are playing at 4k, the 9070xt is without a doubt better though. Fsr4 is a game changer and will continue to be a game changer
Disguised-Alien-AI@reddit
The 7900xtx is faster in 4k. Period. FSR4 is nice, but at 4k FSR quality looks quite good. The xtx is a raster monster.
labree0@reddit
I think we'll have to disagree about any fsr quality besides 4 looking good.
The ghosting on any moving objects and any foliage is awful.
