When you turn in at night could always just release the tractor brake, and set the trailer brake. Buy a set of wheel chocks if you need the piece of mind to keep it still.
In some, it will eventually shutdown anyway. My advice is to go get a wooden Hypertough hammer from Walmart, and wedge it in between the fuel pedal and the plastic on the right. Put the hammer side up, and twist/jiggle it until the RPMs are at right around 700-900. Anything over 850 will trigger the override.
The reason this works is that the engine will have a changing load, and the computer will modulate the throttle accordingly, overriding the shutdown.
If you're under load, and not on a hill, and your trailer brakes work, set those, and push in your tractor brake. I recommend some wheel chocks or similar for safety just in case, but you can get away without them.
If we add high tech front facing cameras that beep at you every time you blink, then the illegal workers driving for fly by night companies will stop ramming into stopped traffic at 65 mph
When I was at Schneider I would tape one of those hand warmers pouches to the thermometer under the driver side mirror so the computer thought it was 110°F outside so I could idle for hours.
That’s what I assumed. My previous Cascadia you could hit the switch, tap the brake or the accelerator, and it would reset. In this one only the accelerator resets it.
Yeah, we had a couple trucks that had to do that on this account. Only thing to remember if your button does work, if you do the engine override, it won't regen on its own. You have to manually start it.
I’ve thought about how to build a more complex device that does a similar thing, but instead of all that noise, this shit is getting bought immediately , thank you so much
Not in my 2024 Cascadia, the overripe button's been permanently disabled and the idle is locked to 5 minutes max.
My local penske licensed mechanic says he can't do anything about it that it takes some corporate guy with a laptop to come down and reprogram the truck.
Hasn't been a problem so far, but going into summertime I'm definitely gonna need an apu.
BenjaminAnthony@reddit
What is that and where do I get one?
ferrum-pugnus@reddit
Finger Bot.
pun420@reddit (OP)
Not sure if this is the same one
zundish@reddit
Looks like it is. Here's one from their website.
Aromatic-Scratch3481@reddit
I mean, check the comments where you got the post from and someone will prolly be able to be sure it's the same one
Existing_Inside5200@reddit

Or just work for a company that lets you idle 😉
olenamerikkalainen@reddit
Slap a heating element on the temp sensor and they’ll often stay running.
Professor_Game1@reddit
Maybe if we add more unnecessary tech to trucks things will get better
Comfortable-Mix-873@reddit
“Every driver wants their trucks to make more noises and beeps at them every five seconds.”
-Some Freightliner Engineer, probably.

That button don’t work on my Cascadia.

Theworkingman2-0@reddit
Do you use a new warmer everyday? Or can you reuse the same one?
ju5tjame5@reddit
No they are one time use. I'm talking about those "hot hands" hand warmers.
StLouiii@reddit
Doing it right now at CRE lol
TomaszTyka@reddit
It's probably disabled.

wgrantdesign@reddit
I found on some you could set the engine speed control up one click and it would stop auto shutdown.

Slater_8868@reddit
Just gotta press the override override switch
TomaszTyka@reddit
Ha
Vast_Obligation8213@reddit
I just engage the trailer break and release the tractor break? Dosnt that keep it from shutting off
Theworkingman2-0@reddit
No
Own_Strawberry_4262@reddit
you could just set the trailer brakes and leave the tractor brakes off. be smarter than the truck
Theworkingman2-0@reddit
They’re hip to this old trick
MADLUX2015@reddit
Depending on how the truck is configured, that doesn't work anymore either most of the time.
tractorferret@reddit
Yeah, I think the new meta is to use a stick or something else to push the accelerator pedal down
misterstaple@reddit
Fk me for being a safe driver. Never again
Theworkingman2-0@reddit
Companies are going to see this vid going viral and remove all the buttons on the dash and make it all digital 😂

For everyone wondering, this device is called a switchbot
ValkyriaGaming@reddit
nice

I used to put a weighted block on the pedal lol

i tried that once, truck still went into auto shut off lmao. swift didn’t fuck around about idling apparently

Set the trailer breaks and release the tractor with a wheel chock.
DamezUp@reddit
They killed this trick on our freightliners with a somewhat recent software update, so it might not work for his either.
DependentPlace5534@reddit
Why don't you take it to the freightliner and have that feature disabled.
LovetheRespawn@reddit
Serious question, Why do you need it to run 24/7??
WienerWarrior01@reddit
Comfort in very cold or hot conditions
JankyMark@reddit
I think you can get these from home depot
Expensive-Plum-5759@reddit
Actually some next level stuff, I know a few people with hybrids in the vanlife community who would love this idea.
TomaszTyka@reddit
Mine worked, but I didn't need to press it multiple times, just once and then it would stay on until I turned the truck off.
FlatbedtruckingCA@reddit
Oh hell yeah! Lol

Honestly, please keep up the good work.
