The is reeks of desperation. They can’t rig the elections strong enough to get rid of this guy. I just hope the economy doesn’t go down the gutter along with Erdogan.

After decades of purging the whole system, Erdogan doesn't need to care anymore. The military is long past where they could stop him. The judiciary his too.
He can just become an open authoritarian now the US respects that more. And EU just announced funding the fresh Al Qaeda Syrian government so they're also not in much of a position to complain on anything anymore.

if you want some hope, some of the biggest protests in turkeys history are happening with hundreds of thousands of people on the streets and universities. The opposition, CHP, has been a lead in the protests and have announced that the protests are their only goal right now, with key figures joining the protests. The government tried banning protests and sending police but the people have resisted. It seems less and less likely that our sultan will stay in power.

It’s really messed up honestly, there was a midnight protest last night after his diploma was anulled and this morning they arrest him in the very early morning.
He’s apparently charged with aiding the PKK, whose leader Erdogan has been negotiating with.
I just woke up and found out now, and am very worried for the future. I forsee a lot of protests happening leading to provocations and innocent people getting very hurt.
This is unconstitutional even for Erdogan, but he’s done it to other political leaders before.
I’d like to remind all of you that Erdogan himself was jailed in the late 90’s for reading a poem criticising Turkey’s secularism and is often credited for being the event that propelled him into his political situation as the most powerful man in the country for over 20 years now.
I hope it leads to better things, but this is a massive blow and has honestly got me really worried.
Watch out people, this seems to be a trend in many countries lately. Good luck to us all.

What's the word on the street? I gave up and left Turkey after Gezi, and all it has done is get worse. Is this a spark that wakes people up, or is the sleep too deep?
Unable_Duck9588@reddit
I don’t know, but many of the metro lines in Istanbul are closed and there seems to be road blocks everywhere in anticipation of massive protests.
It’s the most egregious provocation yet, and most people just found out an hour or so ago.

The police is entirely captured right? There’s no way the police will refuse to arrest opposition leaders at this point?

It's distinctly not related to the Israel conflict, so I reflaired. If that constitutes a ban, so be it.
