How stupid could someone possibly be to bring a fucking slave to a western country in 2025
roy1979@reddit
Education has nothing to do with mindset. It's a myth that education by default broadens your mind.
1nvertedAfram3@reddit
we're talking well rounded education, not about a niche subject matter.
AlphaNoodle@reddit
So what?
1nvertedAfram3@reddit
I disagreed w the comment above - a well rounded education 100% gives person more empathy and a better understanding of how the world works.
Cautious-Ad2154@reddit
Should* give a person more empathy. Just because you can retain information well and understand many subjects doesn't mean shit about your emotional intelligence.
1nvertedAfram3@reddit
fair point, agreed
RandyMarshIsMyHero13@reddit
I'll argue the counter here just for interests sake. 50 years ago I would agree with you.
I don't think you need insane levels of education to have empathy, children have innate empathy toward animals and nature. Modern education can often give people an inflated ego, believing they "know how things work" and use this as justification for their evils.
As an example, when confronted she said "I have immunity". Her first instinct was to deny the terrible act, it was to tell us she should be exempt from punishment. How does an uneducated person use immunity to try and justify slavery? They don't because they don't understand diplomatic immunity.
AlphaNoodle@reddit
That isn't true though lol, it helps a person in doing do but a person can use all of that shit maliciously
1nvertedAfram3@reddit
could and do are very different things. I believe the more generally educated a person is the higher their understanding and empathy goes.
AlphaNoodle@reddit
Reality violates what you say, educated people fuck over others all the time
goatpillows@reddit
So do the uneducated
AlphaNoodle@reddit
It seems like your response is ignoring the context of the original comment I replied to
boriswied@reddit
I don’t think it is shown or proven that it is a myth at all, “education” hard as it is to parametrise, it’s just one in many factors.
Beliefs about “what you are allowed to demand from others” is incredibly subtle. Not at all unimportant, simple or trivial - but subtle.
Society is full of these subtleties. Many highly educated people are violent to their children, even though you could get them to write long essays about why that’s wrong.
That does not show that education cannot help some people break some of such cycles - it just shows such cycles are hard to break.
SurfiNinja101@reddit
Generally speaking, being educated vs. not being educated has a humongous influence on a plethora of life outcomes, generally positive. But this isn’t a rule for every person
Bubba100000@reddit
It only broadens your mind if you are open to it.
lgodsey@reddit
When you add wealth and influence, the altruistic aspect of education is muted. Having the means to enslave another is sometimes all it takes.
lgodsey@reddit
This type of slavery in Western countries is way more common than you'd think.
happyarchae@reddit
didn’t some American politician recently have a Filipino caretaker that was essentially a slave? I swear i didn’t make this story up in my mind
Regicide__@reddit
For decades, American politicians have used prisoner slave labor to staff the governor’s mansions. Most notably, Hillary Clinton was caught on tape talking about it. Horrific stuff. They specifically chose black men to be their servants.
https://www.npr.org/2020/10/01/918768811/descendants-of-people-enslaved-by-virginias-governors-are-reframing-history
broom_rocket@reddit
That article only references slaves pre-civil war. None of what you allege is even mentioned in that article. Got any other sources?
Regicide__@reddit
You’re right, my bad. Swapped links.
Perca_fluviatilis@reddit
"essentially a slave" is how slavery is enduring well into the 21st century.

Norway had to cancel the au pair international "culture exchange" arrangement last year because exploitation like this.

They aren’t stupid they just think rules don’t apply to them.
STRAVDIUS@reddit
because this is considered normal in her place of origin, just like in middle east people exploiting kaffalah system to do the same thing. or honour killing, they been wired that way since born. thus, never think such action is immoral.
Technical-Activity95@reddit
they are entitled to these privileges in their opinion
ThatHeckinFox@reddit
No, they are not, and should not be. Cultural relativism should extend only to differences that are not harmful. Slavery is.
Technical-Activity95@reddit
what I mean is in many cultures they indeed think so
ThatHeckinFox@reddit
Ah, gotcha, misread your comment. Apologies
patiakupipita@reddit
Basically this, they just lack that side of emphaty since they never got it.

Not even the first time I've read about something like this in the last few years. Iirc something similar happened with some ambassador in Australia

It’s arrogance
robot2243@reddit
See this is why UN should be dismantled. One bad employee means whole organization is corrupt. All world leaders or UN members who vote against Israel are also corrupt. Everyone lies
Kampurz@reddit
The UN might be corrupt but what you said made no sense.
Name one organization of anything that doesn't have at least 1 bad apple?
robot2243@reddit
I was being ironic. It’s just a Zionist argument that when there is a slightly negative thing about UN they try to use it as a justification to say UN just hates Jews and that it should be dismantled.
FriendOk9364@reddit
Only downvoting because you forgot the /s
Kampurz@reddit
weirdly off topic then

Lol. Lmao even
No-Captain-1310@reddit
Talk about bias 🥸 How is the expulsion of families and selling of new settlements is going? LoL 😇
robot2243@reddit
Settlements? Jews lived there 50000 years ago. Do a DNA test on any Jew and they will be 100% Semite
ShootmansNC@reddit
Do you know who is also semite?
Palestinians.
M-Modal@reddit
Having ancestors in a region doesn’t give you the right to kill women and children and expel people them from the land.
In what world does that make sense. Does an American with Irish heritage go back to Ireland and evict families to live there? What kind of deranged Jewish exceptionalism permits the harm of innocents on the basis of presence 50,000 years ago?
No-Captain-1310@reddit
Quite sure that "lived there" doesnt mean permission to force other ethnicities out
ArvindCoronawal69@reddit
The house of cards, also known as the United Nations Organization or the UNO in short, is starting to fall, much like how the League of Nations was in a state of collapse in the years prior to the Austrian painter's invasion of Poland in 1939.
If, you know, a nuclear war starts, it was nice knowing y'all.
cesaroncalves@reddit
You're right in a way, the League of Nations didn't prevent the Nazis back then, as the UN is not preventing the Nazis today (aka Israel or Russia).
MediocreWitness726@reddit
Iran on the Human rights council, tells you everything.
cesaroncalves@reddit
That it's a rotating 47 positions elected by regions.
Comparing to Israel, Iran is heaven of Human rights, witch is not saying much, but it's fucked that it's so low. But that's what you get when you're at the literal bottom of the list.
faultydesign@reddit
UN is about to fall because a bad judge got caught?
Cooldude101013@reddit
It’s more of that it’s further proof that the UN has no real backbone. Like when they selected Saudi Arabia of all countries to join the UN women’s rights council.
nothingpersonnelmate@reddit
This one woman committing a crime probably won't trigger nuclear war.
historicusXIII@reddit
insert domino effect
one UN judge bringing over a slave --> nuclear war
danktempest@reddit
What kind of place is Uganda? Theremust be lots of people suffering over there.
hallo-und-tschuss@reddit
She wanted a maid at 3rd world prices, she should have stayed in the 3rd world and got a 3rd world education instead.*
^(*disclaimer: Personally not of the mind 3rd world education is lacking. I opted to do my O and A levels out the UK cause it was hell of a lot easier than whatever they wanted me to go through in my home country.)
