I have an Acer laptop from 2012, windows 10 works... but Linux makes it look like brand new?

Windows 10 on this thing barely breathes

If you really want Windows you could try the 32-bit version.

No, I don't really like Windows after trying Linux

Do I spy a Russian keyboard? If so, then why the system's language is in English? Other than that, that's a pretty smart way to refresh an older unit!

Yes, the second keyboard language is Russian. The system language is English because this way it is way easier to debug and google stuff, and you will get more results. I am from Ukraine, and here Russian language was widely used before the invasion. Since the laptop is this old, back then it was way easier to buy a laptop with English/Russian than with English/Ukrainian

Understood. Although my system language is always in Russian, but it is usable too!

I use a 2011 Samsung laptop running Debian for everyday use, that is everything except gaming. It needs much less electricity than my gaming PC and is running fine for web browsing and sshing to vms. It just upgraded the RAM to 8GB and replaced the HD for SSD.

Hey! Great to see someone else trying to revive their little craptop. I brought back to life my old HP steam with lubuntu, but I never fuss about the distro (personally) ouch! you got taken down too. I got to about 50 upvotes and the mods took me down for having hardware instead of fluff.

rocketmike12@reddit (OP)

Yup, the same. Lubuntu was my first distro, although my laptop is pretty high-end, and I switched to Arch about two months ago

Love the Windows 9X/2000 era look.

Yeah, it's Chicago95 theme for XFCE. I love this aesthetic in general, I also have Windowmaker and Fluxbox installed alongside, so the style is pretty consistent

Looking at that laptop and remembering mine from the same era, I can't thank Macbook enough for making a trend out of a centered touchpad!!

I had one of these until 3 years ago, slipped on ice and landed on top of it. Also MX. Not a powerhouse but I really appreciated the portability.
