Garages nearby recommendations?

Hi everyone. I'm moving soon in the area and would like to know what decent garages are out there. I'm looking for both "leave your keys and we'll call you" and "bring the parts and i'll charge the labour rate" types depending on what work needs doing

Depends on what car you have. There are specialists for pretty much every brand of car in MK, I'd always recommend taking your car to one of those.

You say that and it's true there are several for VAG. But others brands seem to be a bit thin on the ground. I've just got a Mazda and all Google will give me specialist wise is Braylea, which is a main dealership

Skoda superb. Not much but it's one step above just oil&filter considering it's 4x4. Just want someone not drain my differential fluid then double fill my gearbox, that kind of stuff

I used these guys whenever I have owned a VAG car and had great service. They are not the cheapest but they know what they're doing https://www.vagtech.co.uk/

Another vote for VAG Tech, if you are particular about your VW Group car they are good but not cheap.
Also used Bleak Hall Motors alot they were decent and honest.
My brother uses GP Autos and thinks highly of them

RJ Mechanics in Bletchley.
Very reliable guys. One time I had this issue with one of the tyres, brought the car there, the guys removed the tyre and had a proper look, turned out there was nothing wrong with it, maybe a pebble managed to get in or something. After all the work done, they didn't charge us anything because nothing was wrong. Needless to say, we have been back for MOT and services and everything with them. Highly recommend these guys

GP Autos in Kiln Farm, nicest bunch of mechanics I’ve ever met. I’m not sure how they are still in business because they keep waiving fees and recommending cheaper fixes. We’ve been with them for the past 4 years now and will not go anywhere else.

Anglos in Mount Farm. Won't find a better orote honest, family run mechanics. I've been going there for longer than I can recall.

Days. Blakelands. Courtesy car is very convenient

Protyre in Bletchley have always sorted me out - occasionally let me off the diagnostics charge if I've done a lot of work through them. Been going for 3 yrs
S & H Service Centre seem pretty good as well - been a couple of times. Mechanic explained the issue and potential fixes before starting work on it

I tend to avoid chains, although no doubt there can be some amazing people working there. S&h has someone being bribed to remove a bad review with proof first thing in the reviews page. I'd.. avoid, at least for the moment
Zed2000@reddit
Yeah I avoid chains in general too. Went to them with my first car, knowing fuck all about cars then. But they've been good to me, never been needlessly up charged and never messed up the job with like 3 cars I've had them work on so I trust them now.
Oof, yeah haven't been s&h much. Maybe I'll avoid them from now on

To be fair f1 autocentre fixed a bent track rod + alignment on 0 notice sunday morning, which is amazing for a chain garage. But then went for mot and got tyre advisories at 4.5mm and front brake advisories on pads i used for another 2 years before actually being due. I'm still bitter about that one
Zed2000@reddit
Oh wow, yeah guess they can be good sometimes and get greedy other times. Bet they were hoping you'd replace tyres and brakes lol - 4.5mm is plenty of tread

Nashil Autos in Kiln farm have always ben reliable and honest with my family. My wife and I both drive Skodas. They can’t do the big stuff like cambelt changes as they don’t have to tools, for that I go to a VAG specialist on Stacey Bushes. In my old Octavia, I had a problem with the ABS. They Nashil ran out of ideas but they pointed me to Merlin Motors in Bletchley who gave me a test and diagnosis for about £100. Diagnosed ABS pump needed replacing, came to well over a grand for parts and labour which was more than the car was worth. Took it back to Nashil who found a pump on eBay for a Golf, got me to order it to save vat, then fitted it. Cost about £150 including the part and saved the car. Good guys!

I'll actually pay the first guys a visit once i'm settled down a bit. I got my haldex unit due this year, book says drain & fill, reality says remove pump and scoop sediment out, then fill. Let's see what they know
