What's the final cost of it without offers when it reach u.
What's the final cost in states with highest tax and in states with lowest tax?
greeneggiwegs@reddit
I literally drove outside the city where I was living to buy my MacBook so the taxes would be cheaper (county tax but no city tax). It’s not worth it for small purchases, but for something that expensive, it matters.
o93mink@reddit
The highest local tax rate in NC is 2.75% higher than the state rate. So in this case the drive out of town will save you $27.50.
EffectiveNew4449@reddit
Depends on the state, but no, you're not just paying the $999.
o93mink@reddit
Except in Alaska, Delaware, Oregon, New Hampshire, and Montana
GF_baker_2024@reddit
Depends on the location. Sales tax is 6% for non-grocery products in my state, so I paid $1059 for my MacBook Air.
Hour_Confusion3013@reddit (OP)
So price is not actually that low, as compared to other parts of the world.
VeteranYoungGuy@reddit
That’s still like 200 bucks less than it goes for on Apple’s UK site. 999 pounds is 1288 dollars.
Hour_Confusion3013@reddit (OP)
It seems like, it is going to increase further, seeing the tension between usa and Europe
TheBimpo@reddit
Like what's going to increase further? Sales taxes? Because of "tensions"? This makes no sense.
tyoma@reddit
Yes but the UK has a 20% percent VAT and you get a longer warranty. Adjusting for the VAT its 1073 dollars, not a huge difference that probably pays mostly for the warranty and cost of doing business.
o93mink@reddit
The VAT is still money you pay. You can’t just adjust it away like it’s not a cost.
greeneggiwegs@reddit
I’ve found that British prices are comparable on a lot of things when adjusted for VAT
Infinite_Crow_3706@reddit
Same for me. UK/US dual citizen
Most people compare UK price (which includes 20% VAT) with US (before tax) prices and wrongly conclude there's a huge difference in price.
Once you break it down, the difference is often still there but much less than initially appears.
ScreamingLightspeed@reddit
Wow so hyperspecific hahaha
Hour_Confusion3013@reddit (OP)
There are many varieties, so people could get confused.
Taking base model as standard price is easy to compare with price in other parts of World
TheBimpo@reddit
You can easily compare models using the Apple website or by visiting in Apple Store. The pricing is right in front of your face, nothing is being hidden. The inability to comprehend that sales tax exists and must be applied to the purchase price isn’t a failure of our society.
CleverGirlRawr@reddit
Well I’m not shopping for one so I don’t know about price variances but my sales tax is 9.5%
BankManager69420@reddit
Depends on your state. My state doesn’t have a tax on sales, so it’s just $999. In states with a tax on sales, you would add whatever that percent is to the total. California has the highest tax at 7.25% so it would end up being ~$1070.
PinchMaNips@reddit
As another already stated, it changes by location. For my state there would be an additional 7% sales tax, but I don’t believe there is any additional city one for me.
However for food for example, there is the 7% but my city also has an additional 1.5% tax. I only mention this to point out how varied taxes can be by location.
fasterthanfood@reddit
To further illustrate how varied taxes are, California — generally a high-tax state — does not tax groceries (with some exceptions, basically hot prepared food bought at the grocery store).
HengaHox@reddit
So hot prepared food at a restaurant is not taxed? Only in grocery stores specifically?
bearsnchairs@reddit
Hot prepared foods at restaurants and grocery stores is taxed.
TheJokersChild@reddit
Sales tax varies per the state you buy in. Some states, like Delaware, have no sales tax.
mgwildwood@reddit
It’s dependent on where you are. There are states with local sales taxes in addition to state sales taxes. There are states with just a state sales tax, no local tax. And there are states with no sales tax at all. One state allows for a local sales tax but doesn’t have a state sales tax (Alaska). For the states with the highest average combined local and state sales tax, it adds up to around 9.5%. And, of course, the lowest is 0%. But you’re really getting granular at that point, because of the role that local taxes play.
Suppafly@reddit
Depends on the state, most states have some sorts of sales tax, although some of those states have a week once a year with no tax for buying school supplies, so if you are thrifty you can plan around that and order computers during that week.
Anecdotal_Yak@reddit
There's NO sales tax here in Oregon, and that includes online orders. Our other taxes are kind of high, though.
Traveller7142@reddit
It would be $999 in Oregon because there is no sales tax
ebikeratwork@reddit
If you buy it at the Apple store at the Cupertino HQ, you would pay 9.13% sales tax on top of whatever price it is listed at (usually whatever is currently posted online).
SnooRadishes7189@reddit
Given the fact that a state, country and city can all have sales tax and what does and does not count and for how much can vary quite a bit it is going to be hard to find the answer to this question.
ALoungerAtTheClubs@reddit
That's going to vary not just by state but also by local area. For example, in Florida sales tax depends on the country.
