Is it acceptable to request time off work following a breakup?

As the title suggests, I recently broke up with my partner of almost two years last week. I know it’s for the best but I just feel totally lost.
Thought going into work today would help take my mind off it but I honestly couldn’t focus on anything or get much work done. We’re still staying in the same house so I have a lot to consider in terms of living and financial arrangements.
I’ve thought about going to the doctors and getting a sick note but in all honestly I don’t think I need a prescription for anti-depressants (been down that road before). I just need a few days to figure out what my next steps are.
For context I work in an office and we are very stretched at the moment but the show would go on without me if I was to miss a few days, I’d just feel like I’m letting my team down in terms of targets and deadlines that won’t me met in my absence.
Any advice, words of encouragement or humour would be much appreciated.
