Those who have a job where you get out and about, what do you do and do you enjoy it?

Railway engineering, my patch is everything East of Derby, South of the Scottish border and North of the river in London. Every week I travel somewhere different, do the job and return home. I used to work everywhere in the country but the time from home got too much. I did two years in the office in between and while the stability felt safe and predictable it didn't feel right - I like the fluidity of travelling, always have done. It's great to see the country and be somewhere different (I do get to see some nice places), but paradoxically it can get a bit meh in that you realise a lot of UK towns are pretty much the same - same shops, food, hotels etc. It has totally ruined any novelty of hotel living too, so holidays have a bit of the shine taken off them. I love the feeling of having slightly broader horizons though, I've worked everywhere in the UK and feel richer for it. I've friends who'd baulk at an hours drive for anything; I've done that for a sandwich, I'll go anywhere.
