I feel sorry for Jamie Hyneman

If you look at the early seasons of Mythbusters, when the the show used to be unscripted reality, you can see him being far more comfortable. He's playfully joking around with Adam and you can see how he sees a lot of potential in Kari and makes sure she's involved and act's kind of like a mentor to her. Watching the early seasons, I forgot how different Jamie used to be.
I think when the show became scripted reality, you an see Jamie feeling uncomfortable because it relied on him having to act. Naturally, I think he developed a character that's mad-scientist-esque to oppose Adam's character and I think he sort of forgot who he was or the character he was playing took on a life of it's own and he was assumed to be exactly like the character he was playing instead of his real life persona.
It must also be hurtful to hear Adam say that him and Jamie aren't friends. Jamie essentially gave Adam that job and Adam would be nowhere near as popular without Jamie. I think maybe Jamie wanted to concentrate on the builds and the engineering more but Adam wanted to make it an 'entertaining science show' and that's where they clashed. I also think the producers changed and were probably more in line with how Adam wanted the show to be and Jamie probably got labelled as being difficult because he was the only one with that particular opinion.
If you look at the reunion episode, you can see that Kari is so thankful to Jamie for giving her that job (and Tory even says his thanks too) but Adam doens't really seem to acknowledge Jamie much at all. I think after around season 4, Adam's ego became bigger and he started to think of it as his show and wanted his own way all the time. At the end of the day M5 was Jamie's shop and Jamie was asked to do the show. I have to say, I kind of feel sorry for him.

4y old post but.
Adam is asbilutely awful and he diddled his sister.
Jamie is the best and the dude is wildly talented. I liked Adam growing up, but the more I see if him from ab adult perspective, he's just awful, and at best a clown.
bigbear4our@reddit
Rewatching Mythbusters, Adam is like a douche bully and Jamie is autistic quirky.
AbsurdlyOdd@reddit
Adam does let Jamie beat him up a lot.
GN-Epyon@reddit
honestly I'm just having fun with this story, but going back and watching the show and seeing him over the years after the show, I wouldn't be shocked if it was actually a more serious issue.
but yeah, the guy seems mostly unlikable to me now, and I only realized this with a recent binge of old Mythbusters as well.

got a source on that?

Did you read that whole thing or just the first paragraph?

believeallwomen until it's someone you like
and then the cherry on top top, the mysgony that goes into saying she's just a crazy lady!
omg this is PROBLEMATIC my guyyyy
TapNumerous4625@reddit
Her own mother and family came out saying she’s had mental health problems since she was a kid and that Adam nor her other kids would’ve ever done that to her. You’re just a troll begging for a reason to be a dick lol
Sometimes people are crazy or get jealous to the point of lying to ruin someone’s imagine. I’ll trust 5 family members saying it’s a lie to one saying it’s true with zero evidence that got dropped in court.
AbsurdlyOdd@reddit
Agreed. It’s called a delusion because it didn’t happen.
Kaboose456@reddit
Did the person you're responding to edit their comment or something? Because it doesn't say anything about her being a crazy lady, it just asks if you read the whole article?
crustybones71@reddit
I think he is referring to the article where Adam and his Mum both say she has had severe mental health issues her whole life. That guy is a tool tho, I can't tell if he is trolling or not, he doesn't speak like a normal person lol.
TapNumerous4625@reddit
No he didn’t. He also didn’t read anything else about it because the mother of Adam, and her, came out and said this was blatant lies as well as saying she’s struggled with mental health issues since she was a kid. She’s lied before and the case was dropped in court.
NewsAffectionate1285@reddit
Bullshit. He was accused which doesn’t mean a damn thing. It’s what people do when they want money.
mistakeaccident@reddit
All accusations are when people want money? There is seldom concrete proof of things like this, which makes it a very difficult situation indeed. I believe that the majority (not all) are *not* lying but also do not let it stop me from enjoying content produced by accused people. Because you never know either way.

someone missed the whole metoo movement!
NewsAffectionate1285@reddit
Sounds like a bullshit movement

Jamie asked Adam to do the show because he was concerned he didn’t have the personality to carry it. I think there is a mutual respect between them and they probably reflect positively on the experience despite their differences. In any event, they had a well rated show for 14 years and through that have become ambassadors to engineering, science, and general making. Jamie likely appreciates your support, but I doubt he would entertain your pity.

The differences between Adam and Jamie worked perfectly during the early seasons. But there was an obvious change in the show. It used to be produced in a similar vein to shows like American Chopper.
You can hear Adam saying how they didn't realise that they were using the classic trope of the funny man and the straight man in the early seasons and that's precisely why I think it worked better because it wasn't an act. Once they articulated it, that's when it started to become a bit fake.
Plus Jamie isn't at all that different to a regular guy in the early seasons (of course he is probably the most talented out of the whole bunch in terms of ideas and fabrication). The latter seasons present him like he has 0 sense of humour and is completely stoic; if you look at the early seasons I would argue that he's probably naturally the most funny out of all of them (except maybe Tory).
Also, Adam refers to himself as the 'funny guy'. Usually when people call themselves funny they aren't usually funny and I think it's 100% the editing that made him slightly funny. If you look at his Tested videos, he often does the same accent joke but it's not funny at all because of the editing. I think Jamie just didn't find him funny so Adam because of his arrogance accused him of not having a sense of humour.
100% Jamie was the most relatable and Adam was just trying to be cool.

Agree and disagree. Jamie has the dead pan humor going on, which is amazing when it presents. Adam has high energy humor, which may be over the top at times but lends itself well to media. I think people who find themselves funny can truly be funny (it’s a profession), and, more specifically, I find some of Adam’s conference talks to be hilarious.
It’s really probably not fair to either of them to pass judgement based on Myth Busters footage because of the nature of editing. They are taking huge amounts of footage and reducing it to a 30 minute show that also has to have some consistent character development. If I could have a beer with one of them, it would be Jamie (I’d buy if you read this, Jamie... or Adam, Grant, Kari, other makers who will let me check out your shop, etc.). We haven’t had the same level of access to him as we have with Adam and he’s had a pretty interesting life from what I can gather from scattered interviews.

Thats true. I was just shocked after recently watching the early seasons especially the Mythbusters revealed episode at how different Jamie appeared. He was joking with Adam a lot. Even in the border slingshot episode he said he would let Adam take the credit if the idea worked.
I think Jamie deserves a lot more credit than he gets. He remained calm, never made fun of anyone to get a laugh, was serious when it mattered from a safety point of view and still joked around. He was also extremely talented at designing and building things. Even simple things such as his toy race car in the toy car vs race car episode; he thought about it from every facet.
It's also easy to see where the conflict occurred. Jamie wanted to pursue projects with meaning (such as his recent activities in building a remote controlled firefighting tank) while Adam just wanted to be entertaining hence his YouTube channel.

Jamie absolutely pokes fun at adam
bullz_dawg@reddit
adam is a tosser
Mattogreen25@reddit
Why?
bullz_dawg@reddit
I'm not sure why I made this comment in this subreddit but I feel pretty much the same. he just rubs me the wrong way 🤷♂️ I think it's to do with the ego. Something uncanny and false seeming. Whatever tho he's still an interesting guy who makes interesting content

It could be that he offered his condolences to Grant and his family in person. He may not be active on social media. Not everyone uses social media as a platform to express their personal thoughts and feelings.
mae1995111@reddit (OP)
He did send an email to Kari (and maybe others) to check if they were okay due to the Coronavirus pandemic if you look at her Instagram. It’s likely he did the same due to Grant’s passing.
kaypeeowl@reddit
Thank you.
People seem to believe that if something is not on social media or easily verifiable via Internet search, that it doesn't exist. Smh. I'm sure he reached out to Grant's family & didn't need a bunch of internet strangers giving him a pat on the back for doing so.
