Congrats dude. Happy for your success. I used to love the gallardo in old NFS games and hopefully will also be able to get one in the next few years. How much did it set you back??
Congrats! Recently bought one of my own dream cars. It's a lot of fun getting what you always wanted. Especially when it exceeds the hype. I had the fun of driving a Diablo at a track day (as an instructor). Tons of fun, completely impractical and uncomfortable. Perhaps one of the heaviest clutches I have ever experienced. 9/10, would definately drive again although I don't think I'd ever own a Diablo.
The Gallardo on the other hand seems like the perfect balance of impracticality and discomfort in exchange for raw experience. Go do a track day or autocross! That car for sure wants to be wrung out like nothing else!
"After digging into the data it appears there are less than 100 examples of this exact car worldwide. Once you factor in USA only cars, with more than 10,000 miles, not poorly modded or maintained, no twin turbo cars, no branded titles... It's got to be less than 50 or even less."
Bro, i think you are Corvette owner at heart.
Hahaha I realized how cringe it was while writing it out. I don’t think it makes my car more valuable or special though.
I simply wanted a well maintained, stock, manual, poster car. So I had more requirements than the average Gallardo buyer.
I need some new balances and Jean shorts.
Higher end of middle class, dropped out of highschool, had several software companies, e-commerce, home service businesses. Lost it all multiple times.
Wouldn’t have been possible if not for my parents letting me live with them well into my twenties, bailing me out multiple times, and instilling in me the belief that you can do anything.
No trust fund, but I have not had a difficult life at all. Extremely privileged.
Yes.
My parents love me, and enjoy having me around. Same goes for me with them.
Why is them having an empty bedroom and me living alone and seeing them less often seen as a good thing?
I get that in our culture thing it's seen as a bad thing, but it doesn't make logical sense when it's better for everyone involved if you have a healthy and loving relationship with each other.
My old folks are the same, although not as well off, but I tottaly get what You are saying, and it always blow my mind when others do not have supportive parents.
It’s less about the living at home part (my parents would love me to be around) and more about my parents would be pissed if I spent the rent money I saved on sports cars instead of investing in my future
My parents grew up poor so that kind of spending would not have flown under their roof
Understandable, however renting is pretty much throwing money out the window. At least with a car you're just accounting for depreciation. I don't see an issue with having a nice vehicle while living with your parents, especially if they don't mind/actually enjoy you being around.
I’m saying they’d much prefer is used that money for a house or retirement
Driving a sports car while living for free in my mom’s basement would rightfully get my ass kicked
> however renting is pretty much throwing money out the window
This is parroted so much on Reddit and is silly, IMO. Rent makes sense for _a ton of people_. People act like buying vs renting is clear cut and buying is always better.
I didn't say renting was always a worse option. You're just not getting any capital from paying rent. I currently rent because it's a better option for me. I also understand that it's money I will never see again.
My main point is why should someone spend money on rent when they can live for free at their parents and it works for all parties?
That makes sense, but for most people the option isn’t rent vs live for free, it’s rent vs buy. It’s in that context that people use the whole “rent is throwing money away point”, which implies that for whatever reason mortgage interest isn’t the exact same thing.
My parents also grew up poor, especially my mom. They always prioritized having fun, as early as possible. Because life isn’t guaranteed.
Also, it’s not like I was being irresponsible. I was investing in my future as well as buying the cars. I sold both for more than I paid for them, so all I took the hit on was gas, maintenance, mods, and insurance. Wasn’t losing $30k on depreciation or anything.
Hope that makes more sense.
Lot of judgmental/jealous people in here.
Point is, you have a special set of variables allowed to you that enabled you to be successful, it sounds like your family taught you how to take risks within' a security blanket they provided to you until you could figure it all out, you had the confidence to try and fail because you didn't have to be held accountable for your failures.
Don't take this the wrong way, its not a bad thing, it shows your parents were willing to stick their necks out for you in order to help you learn by doing. Its why you are becoming wildly successful (I am assuming) at such a young age.
I think some people feel jealous of those who are given such a wonderful set of tools early in life, especially when they themselves had to struggle and do things they didn't want to just to get by. They dreamed of being able to make purchases like that, so it can be frustrating for them to see others easily achieve it and feel a sense of envy, then of course they get on the internet and project those frustrations on others simply trying to celebrate their accomplishments.
Selling cheats in video games is fine imo because when you buy a game, you own that software—similar to how owning a book lets you scribble notes or tear pages if you want. Developers have every right to forbid cheating in online play, but enforcing that rule is on them. If someone manages to bypass anti-cheat, that just means the game’s protections weren't good enough. It’s your game, your choice—it's the company's job to keep up.
Morally it's a bit grey. I generally think that cheating is bad and you shouldn't do it. Especially if money is involved (i.e. eSports) Even if nobody knows, cheating undermines trust and breaks an agreement you made when choosing to play in the first place. At the same time, it's just a video game and is fairly low stakes. So if you cheat respectfully and don't make the game unenjoyable for other players, there really isn't a victim.
Obviously this is just my opinion.
Seems you're right from OP's response. As a kid of divorce that had to move out and pull his own weight when returning from college at 22, I just can't relate to parents not freaking out that their kid is at home and buying $60k+ cars. It's like a parallel universe to me.
> I thought it was a luxury for me to buy a 3 year old RX-8 as a graduation present to myself
Compared to the rest of the world, it is a luxury.
Having loving, healthy and normal parents definitely gives you a leg up. I can’t even imagine what life would be life otherwise. Very thankful and lucky.
I like that you had nice things, acknowledged it was a lot of luck, and people are still like "can't believe you!"
Shit, you're not even in "eat the rich" category. Owning nicer cars in your 20's is cool, but it's not like you're on a super yacht planning government takeovers.
I don't fault people for it. All about how and where you were raised and what beliefs you hold about yourself and the world.
That's where the disbelief comes from, the hostility comes from insecurity 100% of the time.
> All about how and where you were raised and what beliefs you hold about yourself and the world.
>
> That's where the disbelief comes from, the hostility comes from insecurity 100% of the time.
Fukk yea. Preach brotha. ALL about those beliefs.
I hope you share that part of your story with others. It's by far the most important part.
>normal parents
Implying that parents that divorce aren't normal parents is kind of f**cked, but I'll assume you didn't mean that as offensively as it came across. They're still normal, and my relationship with my parents is not any worse than it was before - I love them both.
>definitely gives you a leg up
A leg up is an understatement - you should consider yourself beyond spoiled by your parents, and thanking them almost every day for having been able to blow money on toys instead of starting a life for yourself. Even without a divorce to work around, this is not normal for parents to have a kid in their 20s driving those types of cars.
What did you expect him to do? Move out & be homeless so he can artificially start from the bottom and create some "rags to riches" story?
The guy admitted he had a good foundation *well* into his 20's. You are taking it to the next level by saying "he should consider himself beyond spoiled".
I understand life is not fair, you don't have to rub it in his face though. Makes you sound miserably envious.
Not at all what I was getting at, at all. He's spoiled because he had parents looking the other way when he wasn't moving into an apartment or a house, but instead buying expensive cars when living under their roof. No matter how you look at it, that's not their kid investing in their future, which is the primary reason why kids stay at home if they're healthy and able to survive on their own. I'm not jealous at all - I'm happy with the life I live, and feel like I've done decently well for myself. I just don't like it when people delude themselves into thinking being a spoiled kid is somehow the norm - at least own it as being spoiled if you're a rich kid.
My parents weren't "looking the other way"—they saw me working hard and actively supported my choice to stay home because it was financially smarter. I wasn't even encouraged to move out because for most people, money is a scarce resource whereas once you have enough money to hit peak happiness, other things matter more. Like time with family.
Why move out just to pay rent or buy a house when I'd end up alone, isolated, and spending money unnecessarily on something that wasn't important to me? Who's to say that I wasn't already investing in my future? Surely you'd agree that building skills, businesses, connections and investing in the stock market counts as "investing in my future" because I was doing all of those things, well before I decided to buy any car.
Your viewpoint is also culturally narrow. The concept of leaving home to "build your own life" immediately after adulthood is distinctly American—it's certainly not universal. In many Asian cultures, like in Japan or India, multi-generational households are standard and even preferred, seen as supportive structures rather than something to escape from.
I'm fully aware my situation isn't the norm—I'm grateful and privileged (yes, spoiled) to have parents who supported me. But owning privilege isn't delusional; it's self-aware. And honestly, you claim you're happy, but your tone doesn't reflect that at all.
>Why move out just to pay rent or buy a house when I'd end up alone, isolated, and spending money unnecessarily on something that wasn't important to me?
A house is an investment in this country, and the largest, most sound one you could make.
>Who's to say that I wasn't already investing in my future? Surely you'd agree that building skills, businesses, connections and investing in the stock market counts as "investing in my future" because I was doing all of those things, well before I decided to buy any car.
Did your investments pay for the cars in full, plus interest? If not, your choices with the cars eliminated all of that. It's one thing to do it on your own dime, but you did it on your parents dime by staying under their roof.
Genuinely, are you any of these, or just using it as a datapoint for your argument? I'm aware of other cultures norms being different - having spent a large chunk of my time in a South Korean household growing up, they wanted their kids to be safe and branch out on their own. If they would have had their kids defy them like this, they would have been kicked out and set to fend for themselves - had a few friends (also Korean) that went this route to carve their own path.
>I'm fully aware my situation isn't the norm—I'm grateful and privileged (yes, spoiled) to have parents who supported me. But owning privilege isn't delusional; it's self-aware.
You're arguing back and forth as to whether it's spoiled or not, so I don't know what you're choosing to say...but I didn't say owning it was delusional - I said not fully owning it as being spoiled is.
>And honestly, you claim you're happy, but your tone doesn't reflect that at all.
My tone has to do with an irritation of the attitude of kids blowing tons of cash on frivolous purchases while being at home, and acting as if it's normal or some little favor. Nah little homie, it's a *huge* deal to be able to buy something most people work most of their adult life for, and you need to refocus your perspective. The tone of your initial post is that you earned up to this - sorry, but your parents funded a lot of this by giving you an interest free loan to start life 8-10 years late.
For someone giving out financial advice, your insistence that buying a single-family home to live in is 'the largest and most sound investment' you could make tells me everything I need to know about your grasp of investing. Owning a home to live in isn’t an investment—it’s a forced savings account for people who can’t do better with their money. Once you factor in interest, property taxes, maintenance, remodeling to sell it, being in a nice location (higher CoL) for appreciation to even happen in the first place, and inflation you'd probably be *better* off buying manual exotic cars. Houses were great investments depending on the location, 20 years ago. I wasn't buying houses then though, I was playing need for speed.
Also, you asked if my (monetary, not time) investments paid for my cars 'plus interest.' Not only did they pay for the cars many times over, but the returns from my businesses are comfortably into the hundreds of thousands of percent. I realize that might be difficult to conceptualize if your investment strategy revolves around crossing your fingers and hoping Blackstone buys your house in 20 years. (They are already dumping them at a 30%+ loss in multiple markets btw, you should probably check your Zestimate)
Not even getting into the fact that I sold both the GTR and the C7 for more than I paid for them. Obviously still lost money to fuel, interest (both cars were financed) and insurance. But they weren't bad investments, they were purchases. What might be a lot of money to you, is a mere afterthought to someone else. Do you agonize over if your investments cover your Netflix subscription?
I’ve explicitly acknowledged multiple times that I was spoiled, yet you keep hammering it like you’ve discovered a deep secret. Are you skimming my replies or just stuck in a loop?
Look, it's obvious you're frustrated. Your generation's prosperity was built on the back of the 30-year mortgage—one of the biggest economic boosters in U.S. history. That plus our culture around home ownership helped us to become the powerhouse that we are today. It allowed regular people to build wealth and drove massive economic growth. So, I get why you'd hold onto the idea that a house is still some great investment. But times have changed: the average person can't even afford a home anymore, let alone reap the returns you enjoyed. To be honest, staying at home wasn't even a financial decision, it was an emotional one. I wanted to spend more time with parents and siblings.
I made this post to have conversations with other car enthusiasts and share my excitement about getting a dream car—not to debate with you about whether I was spoiled as a young adult or whether my decision to buy a $60k car, *checks notes*, ten years ago was financially prudent. I tried my best to be humble and honest; I'm not sure what else you want from me.
>Owning a home to live in isn’t an investment—it’s a forced savings account for people who can’t do better with their money.
It is an investment, it's just a more stable, long term investment. Just because it's not a volatile, high percentage investment doesn't mean it isn't an investment.
>Once you factor in interest, property taxes, maintenance, remodeling to sell it, being in a nice location (higher CoL) for appreciation to even happen in the first place, and inflation you'd probably be better off buying manual exotic cars
These things have always existed in housing, this is not a valid argument. Housing has always been the highest cost to buy-in, but equal return investment. This was my point about it being the biggest investment - by cost, it is the single most expensive thing the average person will buy in their lifetime.
>Not only did they pay for the cars many times over, but the returns from my businesses are comfortably into the hundreds of thousands of percent.
Great! It still confuses me how this didn't launch you out of the house, but you sort of answered that later in the post.
>Look, it's obvious you're frustrated. Your generation's prosperity was built on the back of the 30-year mortgage—one of the biggest economic boosters in U.S. history.
Nothing I have was built on mortgages, it's all been based off of working, saving and making smart plays with credit that led to profits long term. Unfortunately, saving for retirement has had to take priority over a mortgage for me - a poor decision in some aspects, but I've prioritized that nest egg first, and hustle in other areas to offset that.
>I realize that might be difficult to conceptualize if your investment strategy revolves around crossing your fingers and hoping Blackstone buys your house in 20 years. (They are already dumping them at a 30%+ loss in multiple markets btw, you should probably check your Zestimate)
I'm good, thanks.
>Do you agonize over if your investments cover your Netflix subscription?
Sort of - I force budget myself by either cutting or putting off things based on my salary - if there's something frivolous I want, I cut something else to make up for it. I don't have so much money that I can throw a lot of it away, and I have no safety net in the form of another person. I'm the only one accountable if I don't have a roof over my head, and need to fix it if I don't.
>I tried my best to be humble and honest; I'm not sure what else you want from me.
Nothing - the only reason I've been responding is to give feedback to whatever you're saying to me.
Thank you for the measured response. I’m not anti-job or anti-hustle—everyone’s playing their own game and racing against themselves. I'm also not anti home ownership. I love homes. I'm planning to build one soon. I disagree that they are investments if you live in them. If you rent them out, obviously they are investments. But nobody is getting wealthy from sitting in their house ever again like the boomers did in my opinion. I can't see the future, it's a gamble like any other. I'm betting that it's the case and the home I'm building reflects that, I'm paying no mind to resale value, location or anything else that I don't care about. I'm building it for me and my wife, to live in and to raise children in.
Imo It's all about leverage—whether you're leveraging sweat (hustle), capital, youth (time in the market), or privileges like having supportive parents and the ability to take bigger risks. Everyone’s got their own risk tolerance, their own available leverage, and different ways to use it. A lifetime of wealth is created and lost every second and because of the internet you can grab some from the comfort of your desk (or even your phone.) Is it easier if you can dedicate 10 years entirely to that pursuit without distraction? Absolutely. But is it impossible if you're grinding out a full-time job and only have two hours each night and weekends to focus on it? Definitely not. Having the stability of a job is a type leverage in it's own right.
We can agree to disagree on some things.
I genuinely wish you well, and I hope your hustles eventually grow into something big enough to replace your job—if that's what you're after. Thanks for the thoughtful exchange even though I got a bit heated.
Also, I don't know OP's ethnicity/culture but in some cultures it's normal for descendants to live in houses for generations to come. Especially if the house is paid off, it will be passed generation to generation. Often times, grandchildren / children / grandparents / etc. in the same house.
Not to say his spending habits weren't excessive... but if he is able to have expensive toys all while having his living situation + income sorted out... I don't see a huge problem.
>Not to say his spending habits weren't excessive...
Even with kids of multigenerational homes that I know, their parents would never let excessive spending like this happen under their roof. They typically were first generation, wanted the best for their kids, but wouldn't let them be reckless with money unless they branched out on their own.
I wasn’t speaking about your situation specifically. I was referring more to cases like drug addiction, abuse, or extreme religious environments, etc.
I’m also not discounting that divorce makes things harder—of course it does—but there are plenty of kids who grow up successful despite having divorced parents.
I fully acknowledge I was (and am currently) extremely fortunate. I never had to worry about homelessness or balancing a job while pursuing entrepreneurial activities. Living at home allowed me to take risks repeatedly without fear of severe consequences.
That said, plenty of people succeed despite tougher circumstances, and people with trust funds end up overdosing or crashing and dying in sports cars their parents bought them.
>I wasn’t speaking about your situation specifically. I was referring more to cases like drug addiction, abuse, or extreme religious environments, etc.
I guess that's my point - don't generalize that way, as it's insulting to anyone that's gone through it. Divorce doesn't imply any of those things, and those are an additional factor beyond the divorce itself.
>I never had to worry about homelessness or balancing a job while pursuing entrepreneurial activities. Living at home allowed me to take risks repeatedly without fear of severe consequences.
This is pretty much the crux of my point. Having the ability to do this from home is already unusual, but It is way, way beyond normal to be blowing superfluous money on toys at the same time. Good on you for somehow making it all slot into place....but I just can't help but get a weird vibe from it.
You're making points that I already agreed with. It's as if you're yelling into the void, you might as well be.
It's not like I'm sitting here saying "I was 100% self made and that anybody can do it with hard work. Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps" or similar.
>Shoot, I thought it was a luxury for me to buy a 3 year old RX-8 as a graduation present to myself.
Buddy, my graduation present was a 10-year-old Camry with 295,000km on the clock. I was happy to have it because it (a) had a manual and (b) was dependable. I’m still happy to have that car. If you bought a stupid fun car like an RX-8 after graduating, I’d say you were doing quite well. You could afford a stupid car that wasn’t cheap to maintain or cheap to run. It took my years before I could make the plunge into similarly stupid cars. You were probably richer than me, but that doesn’t bother me nor do I resent you for it. There’s no reason be bothered by the fact that u/Mojo is richer than both of us. Just the way the cookie crumbles, bud. Some people got the privilege card and that’s okay. My wife grew up in a similarly extremely privileged environment, but I don’t spend all day resenting her or giving her shit for it.
Just let it go and focus on your own healing.
I'm good, man - the RX-8 wasn't the first car I owned, nor did I buy it immediately when I graduated. I had a Honda Civic with 100k miles on it that I drove for several years after graduating until I bought the Mazda for $16k, and that was only because of working at a dealer and getting it at trade cost. What I was saying is that I felt like spending $16k as a graduation gift to myself well after the fact was a big splurge, while we have OP living at home with mom and dad while he spends $250-300k on sports cars. It is literally the meme joke about gen Z come to life.
Unfortunately not. I properly rage quit.
I'm hoping that with some new space-age AI tech soon we'll be able to take old games, and in realtime, upscale them to modern standards. I'll give it another go once that technology materializes. It's already getting pretty close.
Well you're in luck kind of because mw 2005 has a official PC version. And since it's obviously not sold anymore and it's a really old game by now. It's considered abandonware. So it's free. Even the shittiest PC from 2010 and up can run it smooth like butter. I'll dm you where to download it so you can finish the gap in your childhood :) And with a bit of grease work you can mod it to modern graphics (if your computer is strong enough)
Congrats! It's always great to see someone buy a childhood poster. The MT Gallardos are amazing cars and will appreciate in value once people realize the premium analog experiences like that command. Just look at where MT 430s are and imho those cars aren't really that good because of the iffy flywheel.
Its very light and spins down too quickly. Makes the cars difficult to drive on the street part throttle. The drivetrain was designed for the F1 gearbox and it shows.
In this age of cars with rev hang, I'd say a light flywheel is a good thing.
Check out the 911 S/T, the biggest draw of that car is its extremely light flywheel compared to a regular gt3.
And you surely must have seen how quick the revs fall in a Carrera GT, which supposedly has no flywheel.
Depends on the use case. For regular street driving where you're shifting at low to mid RPMs you need some inertia. Not saying you want turbo engine levels of rev hang but something to work with at least. Haven't been lucky enough to drive the ST or the Carrera GT but I have driven a 430 MT and it wasn't well suited to just cruising around without revving it out. It reminded me of my old E46 M3 where I put in a motorsports clutch and light flywheel and regretted it within months.
I almost bought an F430 and did a gated conversion on it. I was *this* close to pulling the trigger when this Gallardo popped up. Even made an offer on one.
I've heard an LFA in person once and this engine sounds shockingly similar. I think it's very underrated still, most people don't know how different the 5.0 cars sound compared to your average Gallardo/huracan/R8.
The 5.0s are even firing 72 degree V10s. The 5.2s are odd firing 90 degree V10. Thats why your Gallardo and the LFA scream like a 90s F1 car. My Huracan Evo has more of a burble at low and mid range but can’t match that F1 howl.
hell yeah congrats! I still have the green murcielago poster on my wall that I got at the scholastic book fair. Pretty far off from achieving that goal but one day ill own it!
I literally have the **EXACT** poster you're talking about hanging on my wall right now, lmao
Congratulations on making your dream come true. That is a beautiful ride.
Enjoy it!! What a dream. I got to rent a 2006 Gallardo once owned by Terrell Davis of the Denver Broncos. Was such a dream. Everything about that car showed me what’s possible in this life. And to actually own it… please rent it out and share the dream haha!
Man, this is straight-up the definition of a full-circle moment. From losing Ming’s Gallardo in NFS to finally owning the real thing in Arancio Borealis **with a gated manual**—that’s legendary.
Totally agree on the raw appeal of the early-2000s supercars. They were loud, impractical, and demanded effort, but that’s what made them special. The 5.0 V10 with a manual is peak experience, and finding one in the right spec must’ve been a mission. Less than 50 left that meet your criteria? Crazy rare.
Massive congrats—this is the kind of post that keeps car people dreaming.🔥
> How much did that set you back?
$135k. Tax, title, transport, and fees were $10k so $145k all in.
> Need to see the rest of the list
I've had a R35 GTR and a C7 corvette. I'd love to one day own a MKIV Supra, some sort of kei mini-truck, one of the v12 ferraris (f12, 812, or a gated 599) and a lotus elise.
I think having a huge stable of cars sounds like too much work and requires too much space that I don't have. These are cars I'd be interested in owning today if I didn't have the Gallardo, but I'm not sure if I'd be interested in owning them 5-15 years from now.
First off congrats on the new ride! Must be a great feeling. I'm not a huge Lambo fan but the Gallardo has always sat right with me.
And with the list you just posted, I'd say you've got some good taste. Well done, hope you can keep checking boxes on that list.
I'm biased but obviously agree. Initially got it thinking I'd have it for a few years and then get something with a bit more punch.
I've had it for just over a year now and I am never getting rid of it. Hands down the best daily I've ever owned, and potentially will ever own.
Far from it unless you need back seats. Put it in comfort mode and it is insanely smooth and quiet. Fuel economy isn't awful if you don't ape around on the gas pedal all the time. I tend to averge 20-20mpg when I'm not being an idiot.
Plenty of trunk space in the non vert. Can fit two carry ons plus some extras. It's perfect for me, personally.
Yeah, the XKR has back seats in name only, so wouldn't be a huge change and mileage sounds about the same... Although I average about 13MPG but I certainly ape around on the gas pedal all the time... I mean, if you've got a 420HP SC V8, IMHO you've gotta use it :).
$250/month with State Farm. My Tacoma is $180 for reference.
27, no insurance claims but a few speeding tickets and one reckless driving charge a while ago. (Me and the cop were the only ones on the road. I did a burnout at 3:00AM. He was behind a bush)
Hahaha that's so shitty. I once came through an intersection at speed, careful of the bounce as the dips preferred the NS road vs the EW road I was on, passed the car that was stopped and still accelerating, accelerated above the limit by 20, and passed an OPP suv parked in an entrance to a field. Had my eyes glued to the rear view for what felt like 10+ seconds but honestly the guy must've been napping cuz no cherries did follow me that day.
Supercars in general, but especially lambos, tend to be more expensive in NA than the UK. I recall SVJs going nearly 2x the price in USA vs england ($1M vs around $500k)
Paah. I guess I'll add UK to my list of possible export sites. I'm in Ontario Canada and there's no issue with RHD cars here. The massive amounts of people clambering into drive thru lanes for the appearance of convenience (is sitting on your ass for 10+ minutes really more convenient than 2 minutes inside and restarting your vehicle? Really) notwithstanding.. hard to reach over and UP to pay with RHD.
Yeah it's pretty crazy. Was looking at UK ones with a friend recently.
I also didn't really negotiate because I had one experience trying to buy a gallardo a few years ago where a dealer sold the car to someone else. The other person was just moving faster, didn't want a PPI etc. At least they refunded my deposit.
That's a wise choice. If it wasn't for the poster car thing, I'd buy an R8 instead. Silver with the carbon side-blade, iron man spec.
You get 90% of the experience and imo that last 10% you get from the Gallardo is a lot of attention which I'm not looking forward to tbh.
Having pushed both on the track- auto versions of both at least, the r8 will always be a faster, arguably better car. But the gallardo is FUN. It’s EMOTIONAL. It’s BEGGING to go faster and shouts with glee about it while you do the same. It’s absolutely the most fun vehicle I’ve ever driven. I would love to own one one day, but for now the second most entertaining vehicle, and a childhood dream of mine, is holding my heart- my e90 m3.
> It’s EMOTIONAL. It’s BEGGING to go faster and shouts with glee about it while you do the same.
You can feel this even on the street. The car is so much happier when you're at 8000 RPM in 3rd. Pretty clunky in general at slow speeds.
It's the slowest (0-60) sports car that I've had, but definitely the most fun. Would love to take it on the track, will have to make a trip out of it though since there isn't a track near me.
I love the m3, so many good generations of it. I don't think I've ever seen an e90 in person.
My daily, a diesel x5 is faster in a straight line to 60. But that doesn’t change the *experience* of the m3, which is similarly glorious and emotional.
Never seen an e90M in person?! They’re plentiful. Not “loud”, somewhat understated. I love the lines compared to the non-M e90’s, just gorgeous. This one is mine!

There isn't a lot of BMWs here in general it seems. Half the time I think I see an M car someone just put a badge on it. I'm in a fairly small town though.
Beautiful car.
I remember looking at manual pre-lps before covid and you could find them with 20k miles for low hundreds ($104, $107k $109k etc.) retail. MSRP on this car was $171k so it's already started the climb.
I just need to do some mass social engineering à la Ed Bolian and convince people the pre-lp is the better car.
\> I just need to do some mass social engineering à la Ed Bolian and convince people the pre-lp is the better car
IMO it already is, if only for its even-firing V10 which produces a sound the later gen can never hope to match
The elise/exige is just a better 4C, so get the elise first if you don't think you'll get them all, or get it last if you do.
And both are a better NSX.
The Kei trucks are endearing wonderful things and I've never driven a (stickshift) kei vehicle that wasn't a blast to drive.
I have a stable. I had to move and buy storage lifts to have room. The biggest headache is choosing what to drive. That and knowing buying gas requires me to add an extra 5-45 minutes to my plans since I always get questions.
I just bought one of my dream cars today - also on your list - a Lotus Elise.
Love the car you bought!
How's the Elise? Closest I've driven to is is probably the alfa romeo 4c which is kinda similar but not really. Just small car, low weight, small engine. That's about where the similarities end.
So all this said when I have like 2 hours of seat time in it so take this with a grain of salt. It also is modified with Penske coilovers and lots of camber :D
I have learned I like momentum cars for my fun cars. Dailies I like big powerful sporty cars. My favorite dailies have been my E39 M5 and Tesla Model S P90DL. I’m feeling out this 958 Cayenne turbo I got last year. So far so good.
I live in her foothills above Denver. So lots of canyon/mountain roads.
Let’s compare the lotus to a couple other cars. In the garage right now. My 30AE Miata RF (mostly stock) and my FD RX7 (RHD).
The Miata feels like it revs faster than the Elise. It also has a ton of lean (stock suspension). It is a blast to drive and has all the creature comforts. The powered hard top is especially useful with the variable weather we get. It doesn’t have as direct of steering feel as prior gen Miata’s and definitely not like the Lotus.
The RX7 revs faster AND has power. Its steering feels more close to the lotus but not quite as direct. You have to work to be fast.
If you’ve seen the video of the Mazda guy talking about how the Miata makes you smile and the RX7 is a serious car this is exactly it.
Now the lotus? Obviously you have to pretzel in and out. The steering is heavy, but the right heavy. The small wheel definitely is part of this experience. So far every time I have pushed the car in a corner it hasn’t squawked or complained. I’m assuming I’m not near the edge yet lol. The gears are long and slow to rev - but once you get into the upper band, even before the cam change, everything comes alive. Sure you can tool around at lower revs but what’s the fun in that? I’ll tell you this, at the backroad by my house at double the speed limit the Lotus has more to give. The Miata is there but much floatier. The rx7 is there too but its size and weight makes you a bit more squeamish to be going that hot into the corners. It also got to that speed faster if you didn’t carry in the speed.
Nice breakdown, I appreciate the comparisons. Totally agree about momentum cars—there’s nothing like nailing a perfect corner and feeling the car reward your effort rather than just brute forcing it with horsepower.
Funny how each of those cars brings something different to the table that is predictable by looking at it; the Miata sounds a good fucking time, the RX-7 the wild one forcing you to pay attention, and the Elise just locked in, begging you to push harder. Makes sense the Lotus feels like it has endless grip—they look practically glued to the ground.
Colorado mountain roads sound like the ideal playground for your lineup, especially the Lotus. Hope you keep finding excuses to pretzel yourself in and out of it!
I feel like my entire car ownership experience is neutered because of where I live. Everything is flat and straight, no good roads anywhere close.
I try to go on vacations to places with nice roads. I'm planning a trip to do the tail of the dragon finally and stop by the corvette museum. Maybe I should come to Colorado?
Yes you absolutely should come here. Once you get into the foothills you’re gonna have a good time on almost any road - even i70 through the mountains has some amazing parts.
That's way cheaper than I thought it would cost. I could realistically own one, that's awesome. I am really happy for you, you found your dream car and everything worked out.
Not too bad. A bit more exciting than a 911 for just a little more money. Those things are full of vw and Audi parts now too, so should be as reliable as an Audi anyway. I've always liked the Gallardo.
> I'd love to one day own a MKIV Supra, some sort of kei mini-truck,
Did we just become best friends?
> I think having a huge stable of cars sounds like too much work and requires too much space that I don't have.
Fully agree with this sentiment
Congrats dude. Beautiful car
I was looking at Gallardos a couple years ago too and saw a nice red lp560 but in the end I had to go with a 360 because it just felt right after driving it.
Felt more nimble and small. Like a go-kart. It doesn't have as fast a steering as the more modern Ferraris like the 458 but I just had a more special feeling when behind the wheel. I do prefer the sound of the old 5.0 v10 though.
Another factor is my heart has always been red since I was little and I could feel that.
I want a Ferrari V12 now.
My 360 is F1 but I have a flashed challenge stradale TCU in it but if I feel like it later down the road I will convert it to manual. The kit is cheap and pretty straightforward.
I almost pulled the trigger on a 430 with plans to convert it. If you decide to do that, let me know how it goes. Not sure where you're located but I'd love come help, would be pretty useless though. I have never pulled an engine or a transmission but I can hand you wrenches and over-tighten oil plugs.
I'm in the great white north. I do all maintenance work on my cars myself so shouldn't be too bad. Dropping the transmission is pretty simple on these cars. I assume the Gallardo is pretty similar. The transmissions are both graziano boxes I believe.
I'm a bit worried that it will be broken all the time but so far (two days) it's been pretty cool. Thank you. Giallo midas is the color I see most often, for a good reason. It's beautiful.
Ya I don't want to spoil your excitement haha. I loved driving my car but it wasn't cheap ownership, I'm used to Porsches which have been bulletproof in my experience. A lot of it was just little things that add up, never had a problem with the powertrain though. I think you just have to mentally prepare yourself and accept it's a 20 year old Italian car and take the good with the bad.
-CEL that Indy shop thought was two sensors they replaced for several thousand. Didn't fix it. Took it to Lamborghini dealership and they called me two days later to say it was the same sensors. When I told them the sensors were brand new they eventually found a relay/sensor/I can't remember and fixed the problem.
-Reverse taillight went out. Hundreds of dollars
-Front right radiator caught a small rock. Thousands of dollars
-Rear diffuser broke one of it's mounting brackets. I think those plastic diffusers cost $1800ish iirc
-wheel well liner needed replacement
-oil leak fix before I sold it
Clutch replacement, which I knew going in but that cost about $8k at an Indy. Dealership wanted $16k lol. I don't count that as a problem since it's expected and I knew based on PPI it would likely need a clutch soon.
Also these things could happen to any car but when they happen to a Lamborghini it's a little pricier.
4 years. I got lucky, bought the car in Feb 2020 before COVID hit the car market. Sold it for about a break even price considering all the maintenance I paid for. Essentially got to own a gated Gallardo for 4 years for free**
I figured it was only getting older and more expensive (to buy and maintain) so better to cross it off the list now than when it's a 30 year old car, or even older.
I have a workshop with tools, access to a lift, a decent foreign car mechanic, a shop that could rebuild the engine if needed etc.
I'm confident I can fix or pay someone to fix whatever comes up but I have accepted the fact that it will not be cheap.
Well help a lot if you can do basic maintenance on your own! Anyways it's worth it to live your childhood dream. Get used to talking to strangers everywhere you go!
Congrats! That is awesome and the color is beautiful! My first car game was NFS Hot Pursuit 2 and I loved using the McLaren F1 and the Porsche Carrera GT. Somehow I don't think I'll ever get the chance to own either.
A friend of mine has a nearly (or maybe even completely) identical one.
I can tell you that the best mod anyone has ever done to any car has got to be putting an aftermarket exhaust on one of these. Them being so quiet from the factory absolutely robs you of the incredible sounds it can make.
If it's still got a stock exhaust on it, have a listen on youtube for some upgrade ones - I bet you'll find it a worthwhile upgrade.
You have a really cool stable of cars.
Thankfully this car has had an exhaust for most of its life. No cats, fully straight piped. It’s loud but not annoying in the cabin.
There is an issue with the stock cats where they can overheat and degrade and get cause issues.
I almost wondered if it already had an exhaust because of your comment about the sound. Stock exhaust and you can't hardly hear it at all. I was *not* impressed by the car before it had an exhaust.
Regarding my stable, thank you! It's actually far more diverse than that but there's only so much room in the flair box. I've got a Suzuki Alto works RS-R, '41 Nash Ambassador, '80 Volvo 245 Wagon, '85 Bombardier Iltis, '95 Evo IV and about a half a dozen non-functional cars as well. Everything is stick (except the Tesla) and everything gets used the way it was meant to get used. Think I'm going to trim the fleet down a bit this year though it's getting hard to maintain everything and find time to drive it all even.
I’m always happy for people getting their dream car………even if I am also extremely jealous. There’s nothing like the feeling of sitting in the car you wanted your whole life.
Mines not as fancy, but even after nearly a decade of ownership I’ll still be at a stoplight in my mustang and think to myself “holy shit I own this”
Nothing special. I’ve got a 2017 Grabber Blue GT convertible. I just always wanted an American muscle car and a convertible as a kid.
One day when I don’t have to work I dream of driving across the US in it.
That is, in my opinion, one of the best car colors ever. And it suits that car so well.
There aren’t many cars more fun than a convertible mustang. Enjoy it man. Congrats!
It'll be one of the following 3: Aston v12 vantage, Gallardo or 997 turbo, all with manuals, but the Gallardo was the bedroom poster car so it might have to be that
I guess selling cheats for online games makes you some good money. Enough to buy gtrs and new corvettes when you are 20.
https://www.reddit.com/r/VACsucks/comments/89zxub/comment/dx0ht2z/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
I always loved those wheels. Congrats on the car and it’s one thing kinda cool about Lamborghini I not “evolving” cars how Porsche does. I always wanted a Boxster spyder, well while a 987 spyder is cool there is no reason to not still lust for a 982 spyder instead. Same isn’t quite true for a Lamborghini of the same vintage.
I’m scared of dying. Also I tried to get my motorcycle license but got 2nd degree sunburns over the lower half of my face the first day of the course and had to cancel the next day.
Hell yeah dude!! The Gallardo was sick. When I heard it was coming to GT7 I was super stoked until they revealed it would be the facelifted version. They had the Gallardo cop cars in the PS2 version of Undercover and they were dope af. When the Murciélago came out it blew my mind even further though. I had it as my wallpaper on my computer at school. Then on my wallpaper on the Win95 machine I got at 14. I would love me a gated manual just about anything Italian. Maybe someday
For some reason when I decided I needed a car poster from the book fair it was a 2008 dodge challenger. Why I did that to myself I’m not sure. Your’s was definitely better.
CG but I'm a hotrod person and own a 79 ranchero GT 500 with a heavily modified 351 Cleveland max horsepower with blower 856 bh posi rear-ended 1000 pound plates (500 on each part of tearend) welded on both sides of axle. Car is Ford's version of El Camino. Thrust side pipes( big mistake there only 5'4 get out of car in summer and burn my ankles). Leather interior all parts in car original cost...... Lol you'll like this 240 thousand took about 10 years to have car restored and then customized to my liking. Oh and 50s in back 60s in front rims kreggers classic. Oh had to take out sec insurance police called a handlers policy cause of aftermarket items installed. But I'm 57 and was brought up an the classics Ford mustang fast back with 351 boss, Chevy Camaro with 350 rocket, Dodge Challenger, Chrysler barracuda, and list goes on but CG on your Lamborghini. I love the Lamborghini countach. God what a looker. Oh one last thing be careful driving you get in accident or someone hits you out vag. Been there elderly man hit me back in late 90 s repair l was 55 thousand.
Absolutely 10/10 colour, and the right transmission. I also agree, the 5.0 sounds better than the 5.2 - congratulations and welcome to the bull owners' club!
I like both, but the 360 was the attainable one for me at that time. Also, now that I’ve had a few different models including a 550 and now a gated 599, and driven just about everything under the sun, I’ll go on the record to say that a manual 360 is one of the most raw, engaging modern supercars that exists.
Not a great car, to be honest. For the money, there are better drivers cars, but if you want "look at me" attention from poor people, that's one way to do it.
Very rude to common on someones new car thread, but not wrong. When I got rid of my gallardo the dealer and I joked that the entire market for them is fueled by people who have never driven one. Then again, from interacting with Lamborghini owners I dont think most of them have any idea what a drivers car is supposed to feel like.
Since you're an Ariel Atom owner I feel like I have to trust your judgement on the what a drivers car is supposed to feel like.
Am curious to know what specifically you didn't like, if it's not too hard to quantify.
I’m a bit worried about the attention aspect. Hope it’s not too bad.
If you were going to spend $130k on a drivers car tomorrow, what would you get? In addition to the ones you already have.
Congrats! Orange is the ultimate lambo color. I never bothered with it in NFS:MW. I was too attached to my white Supra Mk. IV with some sort of black/red tiger decal cringeshit on it :D.
Ey, I been following your reels on IG! This was from the dealer that said it was fine, right? Congrats, dude. Enjoy! And stick is EZ. You’ll be solid by the end of the month. I been driving stick for 20 years and still stall every once in a blue moon, so ignore the internet morons.
I don't have social media besides reddit so must be someone else. I've had a stick car before. I haven't even stalled the Gallardo yet, the clutch is very easy.
Thanks! I'd love to own an S2000 one day too.
I used to work for a company that had a RENTAL gated Gallardo in yellow.
Got up to 80k before the owner took the car back. As far as I know the car is still doing fine. I think the clutch had to be replaced a time or two, but I don't fault the car for that.
Just wanted to say that to you so you can probably be a little more at ease with the cars reliability (maintenance being done on time of course). The Lambo V10 is the exotics world's small block Chevy.
We also had an E-gear Spyder which was a pile of crap due to the top and transmission. Hydraulic top had issues, and the E-gear was just horrible. The engines in both were fine (rental use and abuse no less).
I think mid 2000s and up exotics are more reliable than people realize. My go to dream car is the 458 Italia which I have seen 100k and up miles examples around. We had F430s that were work horses as well.
Man the 458 is literally the perfect car. I'd love to have one.
Once my manufacturing skills are more developed I'd love to get a 458 and try to do a manual conversion with the transmission from the f430. Some company did it but they never released their kit.
Gated rental is kinda crazy haha
As far as I know, yes, but I have friends who can help me with that part.
I also have zero idea about how much room is under there, what transmissions would fit etc.
I believe a company in CT did a 458 Speciale conversion with an F430 gearbox. Company name is Modificata I believe but theyre not making the conversion available to the public. Car is just a 1 off by the owner
Yea I've seen that 458. I am not surprised the kit was not released. It's probably pretty in-depth and would require ECU tuning or the like. It might be easier to swap the 458 engine into a gated F430 lol.
I am manual transmission dick rider, but the DCT in the 458 is so sublime that I would be happy with just that. The DCT in the Huracan is also pretty good.
We also had a gated 360 Modena that in my opinion is the best sounding car I have ever head. The loud intakes on the sides behind your head, are music to the ear.
> It's got to be less than 50 or even less.
VinWiki guy will tell you EXACTYL how many and who has them and he's tracking you right now so just wave to him. Ed Bolian?
That colour is sick man.
Perfect Lambo colour. Loud, brash. You're not gonna see a 911 or a Ferrari in bright look at me orange!! Lambo colour for sure
I used some of his data to get the numbers. Unfortunately it's not as simple as I made it out to be, I'm working on a website to make it easier to find out how many there are.
Put in your options, year, car etc. and it will tell you roughly how many exist based on all the VINs collected thus far. Haven't figure out a good way to get all the salvage vins yet, or completely totaled cars.
>The Gallardo comes from the last era when supercars still meant compromise, uncomfortable, loud, and impracticality.
This made me chuckle. When the Diablo came out, every reviewer said "finally Lambo is making a civilized car that's easy to deal with, unlike the Countach."
When the Murcielago came out, every reviewer said "finally Lambo is making a civilized car that's easy to deal with, unlike the Diablo."
When the Gallardo came out, every reviewer said "finally Lambo is making a civilized car that's easy to deal with, unlike the Murcielago."
When the Aventador came out, every reviewer said "finally Lambo is making a civilized car that's easy to deal with, unlike the Murcielago."
When the Revuelto came out, every reviewer said "finally Lambo is making a civilized car that's easy to deal with, unlike the Aventador."
The Gallardo was absolutely hailed as an extremely civilized car. Small, easy to drive, Audi electronics so everything worked, reliable, normal doors, etc.
Haha you’re 100% right.
Every generation of supercar is always praised as being easier drive and more refined than the last—until enough time passes, and suddenly those same cars become the benchmark for rawness and impracticality. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
This phenomenon isn’t just limited to cars, either. The past always seems rougher yet somehow more authentic.
Maybe they’ll say the same thing about the huracan?
This is the oldest car I’ve ever driven, besides a 90s Tacoma I think. So it feels antiquated and raw to me. I think if I drove this and a Diablo back to back I’d have a different opinion.
Holy crap, they really only made a small percentage of Gallardos with a manual transmission?
In any case, that's a nice ride. Orange Lamborghinis look quite slick, and your Gallardo is no exception.
Yeah it's pretty crazy. At the time ferrari's "F1" gearbox was space age technology, so it's the same with those. People paid *more* for e-gear and the F1.
Thanks for sharing and congrats OP!! It’s always awesome to see people getting their dream cars, especially the poster on the wall car!! Can’t even imagine what it’s like to drive this and hear that 5.0 scream!!
Man I loved that game. Razors Mustang was one of the things start started me on the path to the Mustang being my favorite car over the Viper (also in the game).

> One of my favorite memories was beating Ming and winning his Lamborghini Gallardo
This right here, this is also the reason why the Gallardo is one of my favorite Lamborghinis. Ming's Lambo was hands down the best Blacklist member car and the paintjob along with the livery he had on it was super cool.
Congrats! How many miles does she have?
In my experience (20 year auto tech, work on a variety of exotic cars including the Gallardo and R8) they're pretty solid. Keep an eye out for any sign of leakage from the high pressure fuel pumps (including yellowish/brown residue, or damp grime), watch for timing cover and cam adjuster solenoid oil leaks, and any cold start rattle/clacking noises.
Ever look at repair costs on when an e-gear transmission had a failure? The manual was a good choice.
21k miles, which is less than I'd like. Wish it had been driven a bit more, but it is very well maintained and previous owner did a lot of big ticket stuff for the short time he had it including annoying cosmetic things like replacing plastic covers in the front trunk and whatnot. Was a one owner car for most of it's life.
I would never own an e-gear car.
Thanks for the advice, if I ever run into anything I can't figure out I'll DM you. I need to learn where everything is at in this car and get a better understanding of the ancillary components that make it all work.
I still have the poster actually, but it has a huge tear in it. I found a company online that had the original file and reprinted it so I have a new one to frame and put in the garage.
Amazing Lambo, awesome read congrats. I drove valet in south beach for a while and I remember struggling to find reverse in the Gallardo the first time! Also those rims are top 5 for me. I had a replica set in black on a 2015 black Jetta lol.
Biggest difference is the aesthetic and the 5.0 vs the 5.2 liter engine.
The pre-lp (pre-facelift) has a much higher pitched sound.
In general though the facelifted models are all around better cars, more reliable, and more refined.
I have never driven one though so I'm just parroting what I've heard other people say.
