Thoughts on the Hunyadi (Rise of Raven) trailer?

This will be the most expensive Hungarian TV show ever made, premiering tomorrow. It's about John Hunyad, also known as Ioan de Hunedoara in Romania and as Sibinjanin Janko in Serbia. He ia a national hero in all 3 countries. I really hope it will be good. Apparently the producer managed to kick FIDESZ out of the production,so there won't be any forced politics in it thankfully. Either way,I think it looks good.

Where can I watch the series? I couldn't find any source
BeneficialMouse2@reddit
The producers are waiting until the last episode airs on hungarian tv (20th of April) and they will then try to sell the rights to a streaming platform, using the viewer count to get a better contract. Most hungarian big budget productions end up on netflix,so that would be my best guess (it has insane numbers here btw)
Also,I have to mention, that episode 5 aired last week, and the little Mehmed became a fan favorite character among viewers here. I really love how Türks are not depicted as evil but simple ambitionists
KelMamud@reddit
Thanks for the answer, that's going to be a though wait then. I'm also glad that they didn't demonised Turks, I hope it gets a good contract from Netflix and get good views in Türkiye as well.
Also I have to ask, how are the battle scenes? What years does the series takes in? I was kingda hoping watching Varna and Siege of Belgrad
BeneficialMouse2@reddit
Hello my friend. Episode 7 just released, and as I promises, here is how the battle of Varna was done
https://youtu.be/faCLvIp6emg?si=53XRMKUFuX2p_TdC
BeneficialMouse2@reddit
Battle of Varna will be in episode 7,battle of Belgrad in episode 10
Those episodes haven't aired yet,but you can see bits of it in the trailer, and apparently there is a guy in the CGI department, who oversaw the CG process of the last 2 seasons of Game of Thrones, and he praised these 2 battles' production. I will post you the end result when episode 7 airs
Speaking of posting, someone uploaded last last week's episode on youtube. You won't understand a word, but the battle scene starts at 42:37,if you want to see what the production quality is

The Turkish is good. We know him as Hünyadi Yanoş.
Remarkable-Lion2726@reddit
How do you guys see him in Turkey? Is he seen as negative, Brave enemy or doesn't get mentioned at all?
MuhtarKent@reddit
I found a few mentions in the relatively well known sources:
(Battle of Kosovo, but known in Turkish as Second Battle of Kosovo after 1389) When Sultan Murad conquered Akçahisar in Arnavut (Albania), he was about to allow the army to proceed, and he himself would come to Edirne. However, rumors arrived that the Hungarian infidel was coming with a great army and that his vanguard was passing through Belgrade. Upon hearing this, the Sultan said, "This is Vılkoğlu's (Durad Brankoviç) devilry." And when he added, "Find out who these infidel beys are that are coming," they sent Martalaz Doğan. Martalaz Doğan went, observed the situation, learned the truth, and returned to the Sultan. He reported, "My sovereign sultan! One of these arriving infidel beys is Lih Ban (Polish king), another is Çih Ban (Czech king), one is the son of Lök Ban (Lithuanian king?), and one is Sekületi Ban (?). These are the great sultans of the Hungarian realm. Moreover, each of them is equal in rank to the king. The source of all this mischief is Yanko Hunyad. He is the one who went ahead of them and brought them."
And here is an incredible conversation between the captured Czech king and the Sultan:
Çeh Ban (Czech King) was captured and brought before the Sultan. The Sultan summoned an interpreter and asked, "I have not waged war against you. Why did you attack my land and march against me?"
The infidel responded, "To our eyes, captivity like this seems inevitable." Then he added, "However, I have a few words to say to the Sultan. If he permits, I shall speak."
When the Sultan told him to speak, he said, "First, I will come every year with five thousand elite men to serve the Sultan. Additionally, I will give ten cities, each generating substantial revenues. Let your tax collectors come and collect tribute. Furthermore, let your laws be enforced throughout my land."
The Sultan turned to him and said, "With the help of Allah, I have no need for anything you offer—neither your wealth, nor your fortresses, nor your soldiers."
Then the infidel lord said, "A ruler as noble and wealthy as you deserves whatever misfortune befalls those who come against him."
Upon hearing this, the Sultan drew his sword, handed it to the executioner, and ordered, "Strike off this infidel’s head."
The captive then pleaded, "Mighty Sultan, let me die by your hand. Let me perish at your hands."
Understanding his true intent, the Sultan realized that the prisoner wished to be able to boast even in death, claiming, "A great and renowned Sultan personally executed me."
Recognizing this, the Sultan signaled to the executioner, who struck once, and the captive’s head fell to the ground like a ball.

We know him enemy with little balls. We know people who say Turks nothing to do in Europe as people with no balls at all. Hunyadi at least had little balls to back his opinions :) Fortunatelly not enough to make it real. We beat him multiple times and he cried like liddle girl and said Turks are the most European people ever.
Today people with no balls claim opposite and they also have no will to back their own opinions.

*some balls

Sadly not much is said about non Turkish History here but as far as i go he is the man who delayed Ottomans expansion into Hungary single handedly for almost 50 years. May have failed somewhere along the way but i respect him.
Doubt the show will show his life as a rivalry with mutual respect though.
LowCranberry180@reddit
Very little mentioned but bad enemy so means he is brave and successful.
AlternativeFun5792@reddit (OP)
Wow,didn't know that What's the Turkish perception of him?
LowCranberry180@reddit
Definitely remember his name from history classes. Not much detail.
I mean what do you expect, we learn the better years of the Ottomans (1300-1600) in much detail
Homolander@reddit
Does anyone know on what platform this show will be available in other countries? Or is it Hungary-exclusive for now?

Cool. I'll be saving the post. I score as related to him per DNA tests.
And you just mentioning Romanians call him Hunadora? Why does this sound so Albanian? Lol (huna = nose, dora = hand).
LightSlight3015@reddit
His name is coming from a transylvanian region called Hunyad (Hunedoara). Hunyadi literally means "from Hunyad" in hungarian. Same goes for romanian "de Hunedoara"
AlternativeFun5792@reddit (OP)
Hmmm, good question. His father was Wallachian,so I guess,it has to either originate from a Romanian word,or Albanian ancestors, who traveled to Wallachia
Odd-Independent7679@reddit
Nah, his y-DNA is native Balkan, but i don't think he had Albanian ancestry. I score a little Hungarian DNA.
Szarvaslovas@reddit
And Hunyadi János' father had a Turkic name (Vajk) so it gets even more complex lol.
And Hunyadi got his name FROM the castle, not the other way around. The place was already called Hunyad before John Hunyadi's father got it from king Sigismund. He is named Hunyadi after the castle, meaning "of Hunyad".
Hunyad was possibly named after an individual called something like Huna, Hunya or something similar.
Odd-Independent7679@reddit
Possible
Szarvaslovas@reddit
xwqcz@reddit
The name of "Hunedoara" in Romanian comes from the Hungarian "Hunyadvár" which means the Castle of Hunyadi (Corvin Castle). And yes the Hunyadi family was at least half Romanian from the father's side.
Odd-Independent7679@reddit
Got it.
Zekieb@reddit
Balkan history: Game of Thrones style.
It's pure and unfiltered Histotainment, but to be fair I do not think the show claims to be historically authentic.
That aside, the trailer looks cool. Will probably watch the show.
Szarvaslovas@reddit
It's based on some historically inspired novels, it's not meant to be historically accurate, and it isn't the least.
Accomplished_Car_231@reddit
Dude, Game of thrones is pure fiction, has nothing to do with history or historical elements in any way.You are comparing apples and oranges.
AlternativeFun5792@reddit (OP)
I think it's because it's not based on history,it's based on a novel series, that's based on history. So there were liberties taken from the get go. Still,I hear that what's happening in terms of events in the story will be historically accurate, the big liberties will be taken at the fight scenes and character dramas.
But yeah, who really cares. I wanna see a Jared Leto looking buff guy in Thanos armor kick some ass lmao
Renandstimpyslog@reddit
It looks and sounds alright, but Turkish costumes aren't very accurate. Btw, we win in the end, haha.
Why do all harem designs in movies have a central pool? It's very silly, hard maintenance and unhygenic to be real. Seriously, why doesn't anyone try anything remotely realistic? Because it isn't sexy or exotic enough, I guess.
PigJongUn@reddit
We have some Turkish spas in Hungary, one of them is quite famous - called Király fürdő, built by Turkish in Buda, during the Ottoman era. That place has a central spa in the biggest hall - I think the design of that spa is deeply in our national under conscious and got associated with Ottoman Empire. It's like a very very old stereotype, similar to how we imagine all the ancient Greeks having a typical Arnold Classic type of body, just because of some statues.. :D
Renandstimpyslog@reddit
But people don't live inside a hamam. Anyhow, it sounds luxurious at least.
Also, our neighbors might find certain aspects of that Greek statue stereotype a little annoying. Just saying🙂
AideSpartak@reddit
Hopefully it turns out good. Hunyadi fought in my city (Varna) in one of the most influential battles in European history. Would love to see it represented and getting more publicity
AlternativeFun5792@reddit (OP)
If rumors are true, episode 6 will be about the Battle of Varna
