Not the best article, Civic isn't entirely made in Ontario, Hatchback is made in Indiana.
Alarming_Cat_2946@reddit
Correct. Civic Sedan and CRV are made in Alliston, ON.
my_cool_lunchbox@reddit
But are parts made in the US? I need a new car and I want to buy a non-US car that is entirely made in Canada. Does that exist?
Alarming_Cat_2946@reddit
I don’t think that exists
eneka@reddit
They made CRVs in Indiana as well
Alarming_Cat_2946@reddit
Oh definitely. We export many (most?) of our Canadian-built CRVs to the US as they can’t build them fast enough!
I think HCM even built a Canada-only Acura model back in the day.
Advanced_Pangolin_79@reddit
A lot of CRV’s are also built in Ohio
eneka@reddit
Yup, according to Hondas docs the Canadian plant can push out 400k cars a year. Indiana plant seems to be capped at 250k.
In 2024, they sold 400k CRVs and 250k civics for the US market! Definitely putting those factories capacity to use! Haha
TieTop4636@reddit
My 2025 CR-V was made in untied states.
Alarming_Cat_2946@reddit
Yup. VINs starting with “1” are made in US, starting with “2” are made in Canada.
FC3MugenSi@reddit
Honda just announced a huge investment in Indiana to build civics
oneonus@reddit
Starting 2028.
TempleSquare@reddit
(Checking my wording to stay compliant with the sub rules)
This is why the implementation style of the this particular tariff appears to be... deeply flawed.
But hey, maybe one more month will magically fix everything this self-inflicted injury will cause to the auto industry!
Mimical@reddit
Deeply flawed barely scratches the paint here. When you dumpster decade long factory investments on the orders of hundreds of millions of dollars — if not approaching billions in all the supplemental hours and costs to get there in a week I really don't think any of these brands are particularly interested in playing nice with the government at all.
Manufacturers will recuperate lost sales and profit and they will do it by giving American customers more expensive lower quality vehicles.
Bananas.
cptpb9@reddit
They already build civics in Indiana (since 2021) they’re just not moving it to Mexico now

Basically no vehicle I care about.

Someone does...In 2023, Canada produced 1,537,111 vehicles, making it the 11th largest vehicle producer in the world. That's down from a pre Pandemic high in 1999, of 3,058,813...
Strange_Highlight_91@reddit
the car parts were likely imported from usa.
Honda
USA has 12 facilities and Canada has only 2 facilities built in 1986 and 2008
Canada produces Civic and CRv and all of them being sold.
USA will be fine without Canda so will Canda but the trust will be damaged. That's lose lose situation

Strange_Highlight_91@reddit
No bro you don't get it right. US exported more parts than it imported from Canada specificaly.
There is no reason for this trade war. I live in Canada I'd rather buy Chinese car than US car. US is hurting Canadian economy for no reason.

How about raw materials that make the car's.tou care about? Or the fuel that goes in that car? Idiotic

I'll be just fine. Thanks for your concern. How moronic for you to assume otherwise.

ChuckWorx@reddit
We didn't know what we had in 2000. Haha
phonyToughCrayBrave@reddit
What was the reason for making in Canada and not the USA? Is it cheaper solely because of labor costs or other factors as well?
SweetPlenty2337@reddit
Labor isn’t any cheaper. I used to work for Toyota. They like to build cars where they sell cars. However they can’t cheaply build a plant to make 10% Tundra, 15% Camry, etc. They would also need a bunch of suppliers making 10% Tundra parts, 15% Camry, etc. It would be crazy expensive for Toyota or any car maker to make all the cars they sell in Canada in Canada for the maker and the consumer. This tariff if continued will hurt the US where I live and hurt Canada even more. Why do we want to hurt Canada a lot while also hurting ourselves. It makes ZERO sense.
aaffpp@reddit (OP)
Workers love it, strong Unions, time off and maternity/paternity legislation, excellent health care, very good schools and libraries for kids, new Pharma Care and Dental legislation soon. soild Government pension component...this take a lot of the burden when negotiating wages for manufacturers. The Government is not making up the math, benefits are paid for via taxes.
alexseiji@reddit
Toyota RAV4, Americas best selling vehicle is made in Ontario.
Specific-Gain5710@reddit
Only the gasser, the hybrid is built in Kentucky and prime is Japan
alexseiji@reddit
My 21 hybrid indicates made in Canada. Must have changed over the production life cycle.
techguy1231@reddit
My ‘24 is too!
Specific-Gain5710@reddit
No it’s produced in both plants, I was just saying they produce the hybrid in the us also
1nconspicious@reddit
Some gas ones are made in Japan I think.
Specific-Gain5710@reddit
The prime
g-4-ces@reddit
Now do suppliers
nevergonnastawp@reddit
All the engines and transmissions for the Toyota plants come from the states. Kentucky mostly.
Randominternetguy285@reddit
No. Some come from Japan.
nevergonnastawp@reddit
Wrong.
Randominternetguy285@reddit
Japanese engines supplement the ones that come from Alabama and West Virginia. Especially for the RX.
nevergonnastawp@reddit
Oh, ya, I was talking only about the Toyota plants, not the Lexus plant.
Snazzy21@reddit
I get some Toyota parts that were made in Mexico (spark plug wire), Japan (brake hoses, bolts, manifold, gaskets, ball joint), and USA (water pump, brake pads).
againstliam@reddit
Magna, linamar, martinrea, etc.
People really need to think more about where the parts come from at assembly plants. An assembly plant in Detroit gets its parts from all over the globe.
G0TouchGrass420@reddit
Its like people rave about japanese cars especially if they are from japan.....but all the parts are made in china....its just put together in japan.
Fit_Equivalent3610@reddit
Okay, but it's put together very well in Japan. You can tell a J VIN Toyota from any USDM Toyota by panel gaps alone.
cptpb9@reddit
Yes and no, these days build quality from everywhere is crap my partner has a 2024 impreza (J vin) and it’s built like absolute shit rattles and play in things everywhere, panel gaps are atrocious and I’m not even someone who notices those things on a car. My Honda built in the states is better, somehow
roman_maverik@reddit
If your Honda was made in Ohio, then you got the cream of the crop. The stuff coming out of the Ohio plants are usually better than the Japanese stuff.
There’s a reason why all the high-end engines like the k24z7 and current Type R engines are made in Ohio and then shipped to Japan.
cptpb9@reddit
It’s a passport, which is Alabama. My mother has an accord from the Ohio plant though and I’ll admit for an American built car it’s superb
handymanshandle@reddit
I’m personally not a fan of modern Hondas primarily because I find their seats to be eh, but the build quality of every American-made Honda I’ve been in has been quite solid. My uncle has a 2021 Pilot and I never even gave its build quality a second thought.
cptpb9@reddit
Yeah I think the hatchbacks are made in Indiana now, you’d never have thought you could buy a British Honda but one time I saw an S vin and I was like “huh”
bigev007@reddit
I had a British Honda and somehow it has electrical issues!!
DeathCabForYeezus@reddit
Multimatic does a whole bunch of design and engineering for systems and suspension (GMs magnetic damper suspension is a Multimatic product, for example) and their special vehicles program builds the Ford GT, Ford Mustang GTF, Aston Vulcan, Aston Valkyrie tub, etc.

Dodge is manufactured in Canada and engines in Mexico. Stellantis is so effed now that their golden goose is double tariffed.

Stellantis hasn’t made product worth buying in years, yet have somehow kept their head above water. I’m sure this will be no different.

The RX has been built in Canada since at least 2010 model year
T-Baaller@reddit
Did a plant tour around 2018; they boasted being the first (then only?) overseas plant "good enough" for lexus production and it had a bit of privacy compared to parts of it compared to the toyota line.
When I toured Ford Rouge you'd see every trim of F150 and its short-lived Lincoln variant on the exact same line.
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
Lexus isn’t Japanese made only anymore, they’re now following German luxury automakers building their cars in every local.
PlaneCandy@reddit
German luxury cars? My Porsche is built in Germany
GMFPs_sweat_towel@reddit
Porsche builds the majority of their vehicles and in Slovakia and Malaysia.
DrBiochemistry@reddit
My 5 series was made in Germany, X7, in South Carolina. Engine and transmission are from Germany.
NoEquivalent3869@reddit
For example, Porsche Cayenne is built in Slovakia along with the Audis and Touareg.
alastoris@reddit
GTI is also Germany only. I know my B9 A5 was also made in Germany. But If i recall, they moved the production elsewhere afterwards. But S5 and RS5 was still German.
GLI is Mexico.
ZaheerAlGhul@reddit
Yeah found that out when I heard the TX was built in Indiana.
HighFiveKoala@reddit
More than half the cars in my family are Canadian built: Honda Civic Si, Lexus NX, and Toyota RAV4 (non-hybrid). The RAV4 replaced our Canadian built Acura MDX.
