Im personally not a fan of it aswell. With the whole geopolitical situation, we are looking at alternatives and the impact i will have.

There are many open source alternatives as Linux + FOSS, but you need professionals used to work in CLI who know the entire stack to the hardware/network and below, in a single word: computers geeks, and you can exclude from this any easy learning GUI amateurs.

I know. This will be a major challange for us. Apart from myself we have 2 other people that acutally know how to use a command line. All other IT people are only capable of navigating a GUI. And you cant really find good personal with experience in non gui workloads quickly. Most only know the whole MS stuff. Telling them to "Spin up a debian VM and setup a SSH key auth" is to much for the "regular" sysadmin. Or at least that is my experience.

Those are not sysadmins, but former helpdesk elevated artificially to sysadmin since they are cheaper than actually sysadmins. The IT&C industry is full of imposters due to the initially high salary & easy, intuitive GUI, desk work without any physical labor, all labor in climate controlled environment (heat & cold) in clean offices, with lots of benefits even they are no more than average Joe in intelligence level. It will be a real circus for HR & managers to fire so much useless ballast, but I guess they can blame the A.I. for that :)

I really like Microsoft 365 when it's working. But the political situation reminded me how fragile everythink can get in a blink of an eye. Maybe time to focus more on open source and less on Microsoft.

Is it just me or is the downtime on ms services just laughable? Each time something like this happens they say qs failed. Do customers get money back or is it written in the service terms that the availability isn’t even 99% by now?

In our case, we dont have a SLA so MS can literally fail on us for days without any compensation. The worst case would probably be reputation damage. But i have to agree, the amount of downtime they are facing is getting to a point where you cant even argue "Cloud has better availablility"
