How many of you are full time in office?

Was full remote after Covid, now generally 1-3 days in office depending on the week, rest of time WFH. But if I wanted to I could be remote 98% of the time and only go in on the rare occasion that actually requires me to physically be there for something (meeting a vendor onsite, working with an onsite colleague on a project, etc.). I choose to go in more because we have a good team and I like to see people and stay in touch with the goings on. And I do think there is a certain element lost when people are never in office (those impromptu conversations that sometimes lead to great ideas or solutions to problems, and also building team chemistry - you’re a lot more likely to chat about something that crosses your mind with someone you’re in the same room with vs. if you had to call them every time). But the flexibility is also nice, and I’m lucky in that I actually have a permanent desk at my office (lots of our hybrid people have to use hot desks, which I’m not a fan of - IMO if you want the employee to be there on any sort of regular basis, the least you can do as a company is provide them a permanent spot/desk/cube). My drive is not short but I can also mostly set my own hours within reason as long as the job gets done and I’m reachable and available for my team when needed. So the fact that I don’t have someone watching the minutes also makes it much easier to actually want to go in as opposed to “having to be there at 8AM every morning, having to take a full hour unpaid lunch and stay till 5”. At the same time though, that time spent commuting you never get back (2 hours a day adds up) so I definitely would not want to be required to do that 5 days a week anymore (even though I did that same commute for years prior to Covid - I’ve lost enough time to that though, i don’t want to throw away any more than I have to). All that said, my average workload is probably 60 hours a week minimum (sometimes quite a bit more). We’ve been vastly understaffed for years and although it’s gotten just a little better recently, we’re still far from where we need to be in that regard. So, like any job it has its pluses and minuses but overall I’m still happy with it. I’m lucky to have a great team and flexible schedule and to do the work that I enjoy (even if there’s more of it than I’d prefer at times).
