Yes. 8 years ago I bought my dream car hot rod after saving up 10 years of annual bonuses. It has selectively-loud exhaust (good for not pissing of neighbors on early morning drives), no loud stereo but the effect on me is similar, and the color: "Pull me over red." IYKYK ;-) Retired now. Still have the car and still love the car and still giggle like a teenager again when I get on it. Gives me many smiles per mile.

Currently living my dream, lol. Had a project car when I was in college, always doing the broke boi stuff to it. Had to sell it like 7 years ago Bought another one recently, finally have the money to do things right. I can get nice new parts, not just whatever I can get for $20 on marketplace, and I have a garage and proper tools to use It’s amazing. It feels fantastic. The only weird part is going back to resources I remember using, and finding so many dead links and images. That part makes me a little sad and nostalgic

No, big body cadillac with a bose 12 inch sub and Memphis mojo amp. Beautiful cherry red metallic, it turns heads right after a wash. Everyone I know with cheap sound systems say mine isn't as loud of bass as theirs but it still sounds crystal clear from 3 blocks away. I wish it was loud enough to rattle more than the trunk and sides of the car, but this is as best as it gets without getting distorted

Yea I usually buy one of my high school aspiration cars every year. So far have owned a Prelude, S2000, Mustang, Jeep Wrangler, BMW M car (M2 comp was in my mind more equivalent of the e46 I lusted for), Subaru STI, Ducati Monster. I feel like I’ve made it in the eyes of my teenage self haha

I can definitely relate... when I was in college, I was visiting my grandparents and casually mentioned I was going to buy a Corvette one day. My uncle and grandmother laughed at me and talked like that would never happen. This baffled me as a young man, I thought family was always supposed to be supportive. A year later I bought my first Corvette. Six months later, I bought an even nicer one (long story). I made sure to talk about it a lot around them...haha. F them.

I had the same feeling after beating a Mustang in a turbocharged Neon that I built for less than $4000 in a drag race. This was back in 2003, and very few street driven cars in my area would run anything faster than high 12s. It was the first car I ever owned and made sure to make it look like a sleeper.

I had some really shitty parents, so I figured I would be homeless and worthless as an adult. I joined the U.S. Army after HS and soared in Veterinary Medicine and the world never looked the same. I have 4 nice cars and only one auto loan. Own my house, no mortgage and plenty of money. I sorta got my dream car twice, I just bought the second one in January cash.

I’ve been building engines / working on vehicles since I was 12. I built a few “hot rod” vehicles in high school. But I always had the desire to build a true sleeper. In my 30s I inherited a ‘64 Impala four-door that had been in my wife’s family since new. Decided it was the perfect foundation for a sleeper. Do, I built my sleeper. Went to a “Street Cars” session at the local drag strip. Pulled up next to a ‘72 Nova with all the “it’s badass” parts and look. When the tree popped green, I hit it and ripped a 12.9 second /110+ mph run. Walloped the Nova. Got back to the pits and the Nova guy and all his buddies ran over and opened my hood. One hollered, “he still has air conditioning and power steering!” Never felt better about my vehicular passions than that moment…

Yeah when I was 24 years old I got hit an it totally med out my bought brand new 2000 blazer right out of high school. Then I bought a 2001 sts after paying off the blazer only had 5 payments left. Used the rest to get me one of my dream cars and wow totally worth it! Then that got totaled also years later and I used tahat money to buy another dream car which I currently still own my 2000 original Escalade.

Yes... But it was short lived. Bought a brand new 2015 Mustang GT. I was so proud of that purchase, but I ended up only keeping it for 6 months. Financially I wasn't ***TOO*** over-extended, I made it work, but it certainly strained my retirement contributions and saving overall. 10 years later, I still miss that car (and even more my 2004 GTO), but I'm significantly better off financially, and live a much less stressed life overall even though I no longer have my "fun" car. Some day I'll have a fun car again, but I need to be out of the kids in car seats stage before that's a reality. My house will be paid off by then though.

When I bought my truck it was so much more than a vehicle purchase yes. It was something I had always wanted, but it came to represent so much more. It symbolizes how I have started and grown a family. To me...that is the 'I have made it' feeling. Yes I love that I actually got what I had always dreamy of having but the true feeling comes from what it represents of my life.

Don’t get why I’m recommended this forum but I really don’t attach much of my identity to stuff anymore. I think many attach the attainment of stuff with hope much they have worked to gain said car or item but realize there is always someone with a as better car and always someone with a worse car. It’s really bizarre to see that since I’m old now. There is car culture and getting positive responses from peers and people around you that can be both a good/bad influence. Yah pushing past that after seeing the past automotive market people really are just feeding into corporate greed at the end of the day.

When I was 18, I lived in Chile and cars there are super cheap and you don't get nice cars in general. I would walk everywhere and use public transportation, and I'd walk by the Jeep dealership and tell my gf at the time: "One day I'll buy a Jeep", and everyone would just roll my eyes at me. It was 2020 and I thought the world was gonna end so why now die with my dream car? I got my Wrangler and I paid 27k for it, it's a JK with 66k miles and when I saw myself in the mirror of the drive-through I had to hold my tears because I couldn't believe it, I had indeed made it.
