Should I buy 7800X3D or 9800X3D for RTX 5070Ti for gaming (mostly 1440p)?

I'm building a new rig and I was wondering if a Ryzen 7800X3D is enouch for an RTX 5070Ti to not cause any bottleneck while gaming. I know there isn't much info out there about this card yet but it seems to be comparable to an RTX 4080.
Right now in my location the difference between 7800X3D and 9800X3D is about $100.
Any recommendations?
ComprehensiveOil6890@reddit
9800x3d it's the best gaming CPU out there so it won't bottleneck any gpu and pls don't buy a 5070ti at inflated price
tup1tsa_1337@reddit
9800x3d will bottleneck in some games and scenarios but there is nothing one can do
ComprehensiveOil6890@reddit
Can you elaborate?
tup1tsa_1337@reddit
There is nothing to elaborate. In some games 9800x3D is the weakest link and there is nothing you can do (especially if lowering settings doesn't help much)
yakuuuub@reddit
In what game? Elaborate
tup1tsa_1337@reddit
Oxygen not included, anno 1800, cities skylines. Almost all simulation games are cpu bottlenecked.

Oh I forgot to read the rest if it a 100 different I would get the 7800x3d
whitebases@reddit
7800X3D should totally handle a 5070Ti without sweating. If the 9800X3D is only a hundred bucks more, sure, you could flex. But honestly, I'd save that cash and pump it into faster RAM or a better cooler

Useful-Engineer6819@reddit
It will probably never bottleneck. If you're tight on cash, stick with the 7800X3D. There's only about a 5-10% difference in performance. You'll be fine. Trust me.
tup1tsa_1337@reddit
That is straight up not true. Stalker 2 will be bottlenecked quite a bit, as dragon's dogma 2, Hogwarts legacy (hogsmeade village), etc. This doesn't mean 9800x3d is a lot better, but still
Calaise@reddit
I have not experienced any bottleneck in Hogwarts Legacy with 7800x3d.
tup1tsa_1337@reddit
So you have confirmed that the cpu is the bottleneck because the GPU is not 95% or higher.
Calaise@reddit
Aha, interesting. This is a tad confusing, so I looked at this a bit closer, and what throws me off is the core %. Individually they are all sitting between 1-60%. 3-4 cores are between 40-60%, the rest 1-20%, giving the impression of not bottlenecking. What also interesting is that with frame gen on, I get the lower GPU usage, and switching FG off it goes up to 95-97%. In Cyberpunk, all settings on full house GPU is 95-97%. Found this clip which may shed some more light https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DfGNPiNTuM
tup1tsa_1337@reddit
Bottleneck doesn't mean 100% on all cores. Sometimes it doesn't look like one core is pegged at 100% either. But if the GPU is not at its max, this means the CPU bottleneck (which can also be related to ram bottleneck).
Frame gen should not matter for GPU usage but upscaling will hit the cpu bottleneck if base resolution is low enough
MaxChomsky@reddit
Dude the GPU may not max out because it is powerful enough not to max out. You sure you know what you are talking about? Run freaking Fallout 3 from like 20 years ago and see if it maxes your gpu out. No? Oh, does it mean you have a cpu bottleneck? If you want to check for bottlenecks you should test it with a 3D mark or something similar and not a game.
tup1tsa_1337@reddit
Why would you complain about running outdated software on the contemporary hardware?
MaxChomsky@reddit
I gave you an example, because Cyberpunk may not necessarily max out your graphics card. Use benchmarking software.
q-0w0-p@reddit
Yeah, actually you’re right. I have a 7800x3d paired with a 5070ti, and the GPU stays at 70% utilization at 4K Ultra-High ray tracing enabled with Quality DLSS, runs 60-70 fps in the middle of town but it hitches and stutters like a b-word.
Useful-Engineer6819@reddit
Most games will be fine though. It’s only a few that do.
Old-Caramel-9700@reddit
I got a 5070 ti and 7800x3d, and according to https://pc-builds.com/fps-calculator/ I have a 41% bottleneck in minecraft in 1440p. It says my 5070ti is way too weak for the cpu, so i doubt getting a 9900x3d will help much.
Useful-Engineer6819@reddit
Dude. Never listen to bottleneck calculators. Your build is perfectly fine. They’re full of bs
Old-Caramel-9700@reddit
Got it, thanks. I stuck to the 5070ti + 7800x3d and i love it. Utilizations seem very balanced.
BaronBrigg@reddit
Just bought the same combo

prasiatqo@reddit
im thinking about the same rig and i would say def 9800X3D (+100us) for that at least 20fps boost(dep. on game)

Hofnaerrchen@reddit
Almost no difference between 7800 and 9800X3D in scenarios where the GPU will be limiting. It's a low single digit difference, almost margin of error. Rather spend the saved money on a faster GPU (with all ROPs).
Mikeramos2589@reddit
Just curious, which one will be around the same price?
thebeansoldier@reddit
9800x3d so you don't have buyer's remorse later and post asking should you have gotten that instead.
HurricaneFloyd@reddit
1 month later there is now the better 9900X3D & 9950X3D. Buyer's remorse can not be avoided with PC components.
thebeansoldier@reddit
I don't think gamers are going to buy the 9900x3d, and the 500mhz bump on the 9950x3d doesn't justify almost paying double.
Siliconfrustration@reddit
I wish the word "bottleneck" could be banned...
Round_Spot_4524@reddit
I had this choice yesterday and chose the 7800x3d with a good 360 AIO instead of the recommended 240 since it's basically putting a mini 5080 in there.
Key-Can5684@reddit
9800
Electrified1337@reddit
If you would like to stream or record your gameplay then you must have a 9800X3D.
Narrow_Chicken_69420@reddit
lol what a post...
what do you mean "enough for an 5070ti"? also what do you mean "bottleneck while gaming"?
mdred5@reddit
just get whichever is cheaper.......both are good enough
if the price difference is like 50$ than go with 9800x3d
No-Actuator-6245@reddit
With a 4090 at 1440p across a suite of games the average difference here is <3% for stock. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d/19.html
The minimum fps they only compared 1080p and 4k but basically no difference https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-7-9800x3d/21.html
madskee@reddit
If your budget permits. Yes.
soZehh@reddit
Absolutely 9800x3d
Wait_Historical@reddit
9800x3d of course if your wallet can handle the 100 dubloon difference
Beginning_Nature157@reddit
Your fine with 7800X3D but I suppose you asked this bc you can afford the 9800X3D as well. So if you have the money why would you not choose the better one
pacoLL3@reddit
A 7800x3d was fine for an 4090. It is a very good fit for an 5070 TI.
In 1440p the difference between 9800x3d and 7800x3d is very small too. Maybe like 5% with your card.
Stargate_1@reddit
At that difference I'd go for 7800X3D
Neeeeedles@reddit
Youre asking about the top 2 gaming cpus
Either is fine but ofc 9800x3d is better
