Did videos games get anybody interested in Cars?

So I (M20) never really got taught about cars as a kid (thought they looked cool) but recently a friend of mine who has been a big car guy for years and his gf has been introducing me to friends of theirs since i kinda am socially awkward, and those friends are also into cars.
My friends have gotten me into cars and the car community a bit but also of recently I started playing forza 5 and it's starting to make me a car guy more too.
I was just wondering did anyone else become a car person because of video games, what was the game that got yall into cars?

Need for speed hot pursuit 2, underground 2, most wanted, and midnight club 2 and 3 dub edition. I love cars and those games are why.

Midnight Club 3 dub edition remix was the main game that started it all.
Lots of customisation options and a lot of the cars were kinda attainable IRL. Of course, it had super cars and a McLaren F1LM. But that game introduced me to the 350z and other tuner cars that I'd see so many real people drive.

Initial d arcade stage 3 or 4. Always had a long line with the winner staying on. Then we found the anime...

Gran Turismo 2, NFS 3 Hot Pursuit/Hot Pursuit 2/Underground 2, Hot Wheels Turbo Racing, Burnout, and Forza Motorsport 3 were all pretty formative to me. Not to mention Arcade/kart racers like Mario Kart 64/DD and Star Wars Episode 1: Racer.

I suspect Gran Turismo / Sega Rally / TOCA Touring Cars (among others) has had a massive influence on several generations of car enthusiasts.
It certainly did for me 25 years ago and even now, picking up sim racing in the last 3 years has gotten me way more interested in historic and modern motorsport and race cars in general where previously I was mostly only inteerested in road cars.

I was playing Need for Speed 3 when I was about 4 or 5 years old and everything fell into place after that. I liked collecting the Hot Wheels toys of the cars I drove in the games especially since they were rare to see in real life, until NFS Underground and the tuner scene got popular.

I miss the original nfs hot pursuit and high stakes

I love nfs heat, I need to play some of the other games.
MattTheMechan1c@reddit
It was NFS Underground that started it and Forza 4 that sealed it for me

I was into cars already, but like most kids it was supercars and old model A hotrods. Then I played Gran Turismo 1... Learned I can build a civic to beat a viper. Never looked back. (None of my civics will beat a viper ftr)
vilius_m_lt@reddit
NFS Underground 2. Also Street Legal a bit - the building aspect of it

I've played Need for Speed Heat before, but not the others. I need to try those.

Yes, Pole Position was one of my favorite games on my Atari 2600 when I was a teenager.

I was never really into cars, but I liked playing Truck Simulator so I bought a wheel and pedals. Which then brought me to simracing games and I got addicted. Now I'm super into real world racing and into sports cars.

That's super awesome, I've never played truck simulater but I might try it.

My girlfriend moved away and I started playing an out of date forza game with a small community. Have been hooked ever since. We’ve all moved on to other games but real cars came shortly after.
