What do you guys think of Sena S1 helmets vs the BiKom 20 system ?

I have 2x Sena U1 helmets and 2x Bikom 20s. I use intercom mesh 3.0 only.

They all work pretty amazing. Game changing way to enjoy cycling. I like to use the Bikom 20 for friends because muting the mic is brain dead easy (by lifting the mic up or down), compared to pushing buttons on the helmet. I manage all 4 devices on the Sena app on iphone.

The cool thing about the helmet is there is a speaker for each ear and the built-in red safety lights are pretty handy.

I think the “delay” people are talking about on the Bikom 20 when they are near other people is probably because our mouth and ears can transmit/receive messages faster than the Bikom. When my group are near each other or on a break we mute the mics.

Only issues so far is replacement microphone sponges for Bikom 20 don’t exist and the visors for the helmet are expensive.

I just recently got the BiKom 20, previously had the R1 Evo.

My thoughts comparing the two... BiKom sound is muddy compared to the R1, the R1 sound was crisp, not so much with the BiKom

Also the BiKom has a second delay which is kind of aggravating when you're side by side or close behind. BiKom also has some distortion.

Happy that I'm able to use it with the 2 helmets (summer and winter) I have, the fit on the R1 always pressed down on my sunglasses and was very tight wearing a buff and baclava in the winter.

The R1 had a super long battery life and range was absolutely great.

Just wish the BiKom has better sound.

Yeah the fact that the BiKom isn’t compatible with the helmets turned me off on it but I wouldn’t have known that if I hadn’t reached out to the company asking for help. I love the S1’s. The sound is crisp.

We have the R1 evo and the bikcom 20. Hubby just upgraded firmware on both and they are compatible, even though we were told by sena they are not. Sound is just as clear

Whoa! That’s so cool! Great news! How does he like the R1? The S1 wasn’t too comfortable. The BiKom is cool as we’ve been able to use it as soccer games. The range is incredible! I’m very pleased with it.

Seña have just confirmed when hardware updated on both the helmet and Bikom using the seña app to Mesh 3 then compatible We love the R1 for cycling but needed another unit so trying the Bikom now as we can use for skiing as well

That’s wonderful! I was thinking about how handy the BiKom is in other arenas. Neat it works for skiing, too! I wonder if the marine one is, too! It seems more appropriate for snowy conditions but is a bit more expensive.

I also upgraded my r1 evo, m1 evo, and my Bikom 2 and all work together. Tough to know what is best. Personally I like the convenience of the helmets being integrated, but the flexibility of the Bikom is very good. I'm happy to have both for when I can convince my kids / riding buddies to wear/use them. It helps me as I get older and struggle to hear conversations.

I got the S1 because the BiKom isn’t compatible with the helmets. It’s fabulous! The app is lame but you don’t need it. The intercom is amazing even in a ton of wind!

I have the bikom 20. I don't have anything else to compare it to, so it's pretty great from my perspective. There is a delay which is annoying when close to the other person.

A major drawback is that the company does not sell replacement helmet strap attachments. I've lost one and am a bit screwed. There is no explication from them other than they don't sell them. They only come with a new purchase. I asked for a 3D print file. They won't respond to that request.

I got the Bikom 20 system, it’s really good. It’s not perfect but it works pretty darn well 95% of the time. I liked the first 2 I bought so much that I immediately bought 2 more to use with our kids.

Thanks! Does it slide around on the straps? Any uses outside of cycling you can think of? Can you listen to music while “intercomming”? Lots of questions 🤣
