Is the Velotric Nomad 2 the bike I've been waiting for?

I've had my eye on the Velotric Discover 2 for almost a year. I just felt like I'd be disappointed in the narrow tires. Kept saying that it would be a no-brainer if it had fat tires. Is Nomad 2 the bike I've been waiting for?

It seems VERY heavy, but how much will I notice this? How hard is it gonna be to ride pedal only if the battery is depleted? Is it a mistake to think that I could ride this on the beach sand? I've seen some review videos with snow and "sand", and a lot of trails. But curious if it will do well around the beach.

77 lbs is heavy?
Mountain_Can6318@reddit
Thats heavy for a bike. Mine is 49lb.
itsrustin@reddit (OP)
Do you use a hitch rack to transport these? Most of the ones I'm seeing have a weight limit of 60lbs per bike. So this is another area where heavy matters to me. Curious what people do for this. I have a full-size truck, so payload isn't an issue, but I would prefer to have a hitch rack rather than trying to use/load into truck bed.

Haha, my BF’s Aniioki 8 is 150 lbs and my etrike is 160 lbs so to me it’s not that heavy. I can still pedal a 80 lbs bike.

I ride a mountaitn pedal bike (99 lbs) and I am looking to get this nomad bike. I ride the mountain pedal bike just fine so I definitely think 77 lbs is not going to affect pedaling.

Thanks!

I think that's heavy. Since the Discover 2 was 65 lbs and I thought it was heavy to lift it. I've never owned an ebike so I'm only comparing the specs to a known in person demo of the Discover 2.

If it's like the Nomad 1 Plus, and I'm sure it is...
jkibbe@reddit
I have a D2 (and other Velotric bikes and love it). If you want a D2 with fat tires, then the Nomad is the perfect bike for you! Message me for a discount code to save $120 on a Nomad 2! :)
shsinger70119@reddit
Who do u wok for? How can u offer discounts? This seems like a paid endorsement.
jkibbe@reddit
as you can see on post, I'm a brand affiliate
if people use my code when ordering, they get a discount and I get a small kickback. it's a win-win.
people are welcome to buy what they want. I want to help them, and in turn myself, if they're interested in Velotric.
I own 5 of their bikes, so I'm a believer in the product
MmmKayDeee@reddit
Do you have a discount code for the Nomad 2x?
jkibbe@reddit
I sent you a chat request 👍🏻🎉😎

I own this bike and like my previous mountain bike, this ebike performs
knowbrain73@reddit
I love mine, I have a local dealer for support too. Got about 300 miles on it. Range is way less than advertised, but the power is incredible. Boost mode should be called "beast mode" lol
PilotSquash@reddit
I will throw my 2 cents in. I just ordered a Nomad 2 after doing a short ride at a LBS. I also test rode an Aventon Venture 2, but liked the Nomad a little better. I forgot to test the Nomad without power, but I did ride the Venture without any assist. Yes, you can ride without any assist. Yes, it feels like pedaling a heavy bike. A lot of it will depend on your fitness level and strength. As far as racks go, I bought the Hollywood Sport Rider hitch mount bike rack. This rack will hold 2 bikes weighing 80 pounds each. Hope this helps.
itsrustin@reddit (OP)
Fantastic! Can’t wait to hear back from you after you’ve owned one for a while. I’ll check on the rack too.
PilotSquash@reddit
The Hollywood Sport Rider rack does a pretty decent job hauling these bikes. So far I am pleased with the Nomad 2 purchase, but I have heard of several complaining about the battery not having enough range. I haven't been out on a long enough ride yet to see what range I am truly getting, but just a heads up.
Purple-Skittle77@reddit
I realize its only been about a month but curious on any updates from you on how you're liking the nomad 2!
PilotSquash@reddit
I'm really liking it so far. I've heard some bad reports about people only getting about 20 mines out of their battery but I haven't had that same issue. I do wish there was a little more difference between eco mode and trail mode.
knowbrain73@reddit
I really like mine, have 300 miles on it now. Range is roughly 30-35 miles if I don't use throttle, I typically ride trail mode 5 on the torque sensor. My typical route has around 700 feet elevation gain, I'm 6'-4 280lbs
Delicious-Bad5152@reddit
they are probably the worst customer support ever. I ordered a bike and then 1 minute after i requested it to be cancelled. They never replied. Called them in the morning literally 4 hours after and they said order was fullfilled. Refuse to cancel or even waive the restocking fee although it has not been shipped yet.
just imagine if they treat you like that as future customer what would they do if you were already one !!
itsrustin@reddit (OP)
I don’t think that I’d be in a situation like that, but thanks for the context.
BodSmith54321@reddit
Depends if you have ever ridden a heavy fat tire bike before And are sure it meets your needs. Compare it to the Lectric Xpeak 2 and Aventon Aventure 2
da4@reddit
I've had bike techs in both Chicago and Palm Springs CA tell me to avoid Aventon. I'm on my second Lectric and love it.
Purple-Skittle77@reddit
I have also had bike techs tell me to avoid Aventon as their customer and dealer support is awful. This bike store stopped selling Aventon bikes over 2 years ago for this reason. That's enough for me to avoid...I was even considering and almost sold on the Aventon Aventure bike. I've decided on the Velotric Nomad 2!
BodSmith54321@reddit
The benefit of Aventon is the local dealer/repair network.

How is this a good deal, if Wired cost the same ($2000), but is 4 (four!) times more powerful, has almost two times bigger battery and full suspension ?
VariationDramatic444@reddit
I wouldn’t say that Wired costs the same. More like $$300-$400 more including shipping and taxes. Velotric is offered at some bike shops (as a matter of fact there’s one just a town over from me with them). So if you buy it at the shop you are still paying taxes, but not shipping. I don’t know any dealers that carry Wired. Plus the discussion is also about weight and the Wired bike is quite a bit heavier and a bit longer than the Nomad 2 and a greater amount than the Discover 2. Now with that being said I definitely see the draw towards the Wired bikes even if they are overkill lol. I’m considering them as well.
Neither_Respect9046@reddit
Velotric is water proof while Wired will probably fry the battery going near water. Faster bike at cheaper means something with quality is off. Wired also has a death wobble many people have said.
itsrustin@reddit (OP)
Don't love the display on the Wired unit. LBS doesn't carry this line which matters to me. Can't easily find the warranty information which seems to be a red flag.

Sometimes less is more. (weight)

I'd recommend being careful with velotric. Got my 1st ebike from them recently and the throttle bounces up an down about 5mph each way when held steady. I reached out to them to try to get one of their local seller/repair people to look at it but they said they need a video 1st. After realizing how unsafe it was(holding a phone while trying to stabilize a bike not maintaining speed was pretty dangerous) and them not willing to assist w/o being able to film it, I'm stuck riding it w/o any motor for safety reasons. Also, something I learned when reaching out to reviewers or people stating how good this brand is, most tend to be sponsored by them or bare minimum have been sent bikes to test and keep free of charge(or get it massively reduced). This review is coming from someone who paid out of pocket.
sculltt@reddit
Velotric was astroturfing this sub pretty hard for a while, with accounts posting as if they had bought and were riding their bikes, but which, upon further inspection, had made the same sorts of posts about multiple different models. You may remember one a couple weeks ago where the person was posting about how they love to ride their Velotric with their dog, and the pictures were clearly professional shots of a dude standing over a bike. That account had made similar posts about naturally every model that velotric makes, and I reported it as advertising to the mods.
I know that that's how advertising works to a certain degree these days, but it still has made me leery of them.
Shermanshammy@reddit
That was me and I love my dog and my velotric. Sorry you feel it's inauthentic. I'm just really good at taking pics ...
dumbledwarves@reddit
This is why you always buy from an LBS.
marginal_option@reddit
Honestly it is very similar to the Velowave Ranger 3.0 in both the step-thru and step-over versions. That is similar with a couple different components to their Grace 2.0 model.
It does have a little beefier frame to support more weight and larger rotors, so a couple different components attached to a similar frame.

The nomad 2 is probably the fat tire bike you’ve been waiting for.
akaBigWurm@reddit
The Discover 2 does not have that narrow of a tire, that is a main reason I went with it over others, it will offload , just no sand

2k vs. xpeak 2.0 $1400 vs.chinesium w/cadence $800

There’s like 50 creators who all dropped videos on it yesterday, they all seem to like it

Of course they do, they're getting paid to like it
