No. Why would it? Its protests against corruption in Serbia. Has nothing to do with anyone else. Besides serbian people as a whole are highly chauvinistic. Its not like if some politician fall there would be some massive changes
Not directly, but...by removing some figure from they position in government and parliament, it could be connected. We still have many people who was involved and participate in government during last war on this area, or some of them who are involved in politics in that time. By removing them from that position, maybe we will be able to set a some different basics for relationship.
Well, if it ends up being a regime change (I don’t think it will) pulling down stuff that actively promotes hatred would lead to better outcomes. But it’s a very slow process and you need decades of non-lunatics in power, which in Serbia is next to impossible.
No. Why should they?
Most Macedonians are not concerned by corruption in Serbia directly, but by weird non-reciprocal demands by Greece and Bulgaria.
- If Macedonia has to be North Macedonia, why isn’t the Greek region renamed to South Macedonia;
- If we are to renounce any linkage to Ancient Macedonians, then why don’t they acknowledge Aegean Macedonia was predominantly Slavic Macedonian before the population exchange with Turkey and the ethnic cleansing of Macedonians in the 50s?
- If Bulgarians insist 3000 Bulgarians get added to the Macedonian constitution, then why don’t they permit people to register a political party? (Insert dozen human rights court verdicts)
As admirable as Serbian students are, this is what stands in the way of understanding and tolerance between nations imho.
MK and Serbia have nt much in common. The one is mono ethnic the other is multiethnic society. MK is part of NATO and shares this with both Greece, Bulgaria and Albania.
Exactly the communist history is the answer for all of your questions. MK shares more history with both Bulgaria and Greece. The territory of Makedonija is regional territory in those two countries.
This can be achieved thru EU only.
However Belgrade ruled MK for 46 years and it's understandable what negative impact it had. Also the nationalistic parties are not interested in corruption.
^ my point exactly. Not a single person or historical record outside Bulgaria calls Macedonia’s participation in Yugoslavia as “Belgrade ruled … and that had negative impact”
…and we are meant to adjust all our history books; and request all other x-Yu countries to do so undoubtedly, to reflect this Bulgarian “fact”.
Unfortunately, a problem outside Serbian student hands…
Let's look at the surnames. Gotse Delchev declared as Bulgarian and writed in Bulgarian language. The records are in the archives and of course the elites in MK are aware of this. It's about all the same for the historic Vmoro.
So you switching topics is to mean you got rebuffed on Macedonia’s Yugoslav history and won’t go around stating Macedonia was “ruled by Belgrade”?
I’d call that a win, boys and girls!
as someone who is partly from the Novi Pazar no one there want separation, also half of sandzak population make orthodox Christians. Republika Srpska have bigger chance to get independence.
It looks like you never been in sandzak region I know alot of Muslim people there, and no one wants to be separated. Now go ask Serbians in Republika Srpska if they want independence.
ive actually been there. who are you as an Orthodox (with a capital O) to say what bosniaks want? and the difference is the so called republika srpska is historic bosnian land dating back to the vosnian kingdom and so they cant get their independence while sandzak was stolen from bosnia and transfered to serbia during ottoman rule
If u actually been in sandzak region you would know that most people doesn't want independence. In every corner there you will would find Serbian flag. The only time bosniaks controled sandzak was during otomans before that was always Serbian.
hahaha they want to be a part od serbia so much that you had to bring tanks to novi pazar during the war. and i wonder who placed the Orthodox flags there? well, either way i will not entertain ur delusional made up version of reality anymore
>you had to bring tanks to novi pazar during the war.
Where are your sources?
>and i wonder who placed the Orthodox flags there?
By people who live in region of sandzak
>either way i will not entertain ur delusional made up version of reality anymore
You are the only delusional here, no one wants independence in region of sandzak neither Muslims wants that. Only bosniaks who never visited and don't know nothing about sandzak wants that.
Lol stop making things up
>you had to bring tanks to novi pazar during the war.
Where did you get that from lmao from bih sources?
>and i wonder who placed the Orthodox flags there?
Flags where placed by the people who live there and people who respect country they live in.
>either way i will not entertain ur delusional made up version of reality anymore
Who is delusional here? You are the only one who talks about "sandzak independence" while people who live there don't even care. The only people who want that are bosniaks who live in Bosnia.
Also Serbians lived in Republika Srpska since medival times. First ever Serbian nation under Vlastimirović dynasty controled modern day Republika Srpska.Long time before Bosnian kingdom ever existed.
I would not say that. Muslims in Serbia are not treated difrent from others nor Muslims in Serbia treat Christians difrent. I don't see why would there be distrust.
No because people of different cultures always lived on balkans ,its on the west that is the problem . Just we like to fight because fight is more honest then manipulation
Protests are good for Serbia and people with Serbian citizenship. Serbia is becoming a better place to live thanks to its young, brave people. This is not even something new when it comes to that country. Anyone who knows history knows that change has always come from there.
Will others look up to Serbia this time as well? It's hard to predict because. Due to the events of the 1990s, Serbia's political influence significantly declined. Culturally, it is still dominant, but that may not be enough.
So, this is a far fetched question.
Due to corruption and continious friction in everyday's life of average serb (corruption, poverty, uncertainty) in last 12+ years it will take a lot of time, even with the fall of this government, for most of the things things to change.
However, it is possible, but for a conversation you need two. What if something happens in some other country and we get "oh shit here we go again". There are way too many variables and this is a variable too, but at least it is a positive one (for a start) hopefully.
In any case, at least we will get rid of this type of "blunt" corruption.
Did you watch the clip? I was very moved by the apparent unity of Serbian and Bosniak students from Novi Pazar and their mutual respect. This clip was the reason I asked the question
The only reason you are flabbergassed that muslim and orthodox people united in Novi Pazar is because you live in a special bubble on the internet. The world or the country aren't made up by some chronically online insecure kids/idiots that shout "YOU BAD ☝️" at everyone they seem not to like. On the contrary the question, will balkan people be more forgivefull and more close with each other? Plain simple, the answer is no. There will always be just like anywhere in the world the dissidents of the community, the firestarters, the black sheep, the resentful one. Albeit that doesn't mean the majority of the people are like that. Its just the misfortune of zero consequences and free will on the internet.
I don't think there is problem between religions in Serbia.
Huge majority of population in Serbia don't care about other people's religion.
Only extremists are very loud so it appears there are more of them.
This thing is bound to bring at least some positive long-term changes, time will tell how that will look like. With the new generation taking the lead, things look promising.
No, why would it?
These protests are Serbia-related, I see no reason why it would affect "tolerance and understanding between nations and religions of Balkans". We focus on our internal thing, not some overall Balkan thing.
