Is the Dry Robe hate real ?

There was a guardian article about it. https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2022/feb/04/too-cool-for-the-pool-how-the-dryrobe-became-the-most-divisive-thing-you-can-wear It started out as a surfer and beach goer utility item to help you get changed without struggling with a towel and cost £50 upon release in 2010. The guy who owned the business never thought he'd be making absolute bank off of upper-middle class Mum's taking their kids to school in winter, or middle class city dwellers who don't venture anywhere near a body of water. The demand shot the price up to equivalent of other long winter coats, and now they're £165. The notion you consume something that doesn't match the lifestyle/market it was aimed for is kind of like you're depriving someone else of that asset, and their opportunity to flex their lifestyle. The laughable thing is you can bag a good quality version of these jackets without the stitched in labels for about £25 through a wholesaler. A decent changing robe off a surfing website or a company like Passenger easily drops down to £40 in the sales. Maybe that's why the Facebook group exists? Maybe it's to highlight the herd mentality? Maybe the Dry Robe has become synonymous with a cultural or class difference that people dislike? Maybe it's just jealousy?  I personally only see them near a super expensive private school, and worn by the kind of people who are driving their kids 5 minutes down the road to said school in massive SUVs, whilst kids attending the local state school 45 minutes away are walking. I'll expose my bias in saying it definitely reminds me of people who don't have to struggle for anything, but I don't think ill of the brand or those people. It's just a symbol amongst many of inequality.
