Oh yeah that can do it as well. Size wise, the SUV variant isnt as big as I expected, length wise when I was parked next too it, it was about the same length as my Mazda6, it was really tall though. The truck version on the other hand is really long
Brain dead comment. His other option for a vehicle this capable is a Jeep which is even worse. You think this is bad, get in an FCA product and youâll think the Bronco is a Benz. Second, you canât have good audio quality in a car with bad acoustics, and having a car that comes apart with such a cavernous interior means the audio will sound tinny no matter what.
I donât know what alternative youâd recommend for them to be happier with their selection.
I don't know why you are getting downvoted. Folks here will quickly criticize without pointing out alternatives, and you are right, there are none.
If you want the bronco/jeep experience. The removable top & doors, the looks, the capability, the two-door manual, you want those two cars. You are willing to overlook everything wrong with them for the character. OP is the typical wrangler/bronco buyer because it is an emotional and not a logical purchase.
Until someone else is putting out a car with equal character for the same or lower price with better reliability, they should be happy, it's an incredible car. And yeah, the roof coming off and the looks are naturally at odds with a good sound system & low NVH. Just the compromises you make.
Great read, thank you.
From your ADAS / adaptive cruise control comment - about the Bronco not slowing to a stop and restarting - I'm starting to understand that this is one of the most important hidden distinctions in new cars today.
My top-spec 2019 Acadia (roughly equivalent to a Denali) operates its adaptive cruise control from 0-160km/h. But the two lower-spec variants only operate from 40-120km/h IIRC.
I presume it's basically down to more expensive chips and more expensive hardware (let's say mmwave radar vs ultrasonic) in the more expensive models.
My wifeâs Maverick has the more advanced system and itâs really nice on long road trips. We regularly drive it 12 hours to go see her parents and the aids are a huge help.
Yeah, I can understand the big difference it makes in tiny ways!
My wife's little Yaris has 'lane keeping', but because it's a tiny car and it's not perfectly calibrated, it ping-pongs from each side of the highway lane to the other.
For VWs at least, the limiting distinction between ACC down to 20 mph, ACC to 0 mph, and ACC with stop and go tends to be the ABS pump. My car can follow the car in front to 0 mph, but then can't hold brake pressure at a stop, so it tells me to brake and I have to take care of that. If I swapped to a different ABS pump, then I would be able to do true stop and go.
Damn, what a concept, I hadn't even considered that.
Braking systems are such an intricately complex piece of engineering. People think "yeah brakes" but they've come such a long way...
I have a '77 Dodge truck with a brake master cylinder, electric vacuum booster, and four drum brakes. It's obviously the simplest hydraulic assisted system possible. My '03 Cayenne uses four wheel discs and big calipers plus ABS/EBD for some simple but effective stability control purposes. And my '19 Acadia goes the whole hog with ADAS, hill start assist, descent control and so on, but does so with comparatively tiny discs and calipers.
There's other differences too in adaptive cruise implementations. Following distances, responsiveness to speed changes and how much acceleration is applied, how smoothly it maintains a speed vs constantly speeding up and down when the car in front has erratic speeds, how well it stays active in bad weather conditions, how smoothly it comes to a stop at various following distances.
I started getting rentals often last year and was surprised at how variable different manufacturers, or even different models within the same brand, can have adaptive cruise behave.
good review. Don't think the 2.7l is whole lot faster than the ecoboost tbh. If you want extra power Ford performance offers a pretty affordabl solution:
[https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a61882750/2022-ford-bronco-performance-calibration-kit-tested/](https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a61882750/2022-ford-bronco-performance-calibration-kit-tested/)
Also an exhaust setup will help if you care for a little sound. No v8 rumble ofc.
Either way it's neat to see someone switch between 2 polar opposite vehicles. My only question is how does the 10 speed behavior differ between the two? Also how about ride quality?
Wow interesting you mention the trans stuff. I know the mustangs tuning was worse than the Camaros so I can't imagine how bad it is in the bronco.
I've concluded Ford tuning is worse because they try to extra things in their products like skipping gears when upshifting (like 1-3) and also allow for 2nd gear launches, and all these odd little things. That alone with the driving learning software of the trans logic screws it up. Not sure why they made it so complicated. FYI what I said above is for the mustang only I drove dunno how it is in the bronco ofc but I imagine it's similarÂ
The 2.7 is 2x as big as the 2.3 for 10% more power, and the Ford Performance tune for the 2.3 basically brings it up to the same level as the 2.7. Knowing I'd be keeping mine for a while, I deliberately opted for the 2.3 so that maintenance wouldn't be a nightmare going forwards.
Honestly the 2.7l should be a nightmare in terms of maintenance. It's suppose to be the most reliable f150 engine and I don't know of any issues in the later iterations. Long term it may actually be a bit more reliable tbh
2.3 oil changes are also significantly easier. Oil filter is in a batter location and it doesnât have the awful plastic drain plug my Mustang had. (I believe the 2.7 does)
Interesting. Yeah I think cost to maintain would be less but I'd imagine the 2.7l is more reliable above 150-200K miles for example. It's a truck motor and is built quite well. Time will tell though either way don't think it's worth the upgrade for performance alone
It was just the subject of a massive recall due to faulty valvetrains, it's easily the least reliable of the two engines, but I'm more concerned with ease of maintenance rather than reliability outright, any given procedure takes about twice as long to perform on the 2.7 than the 2.3 due to how much space the extra turbo plumbing and engine sensors take up.
With the 2.3l just make sure to get it walnut blasted at some point. Itâs direct injection only, while the 2.7 is both port and direct injection. Going to cause some buildup down the line in the 2.3l, but probably nothing to worry about until 100k+ miles at least.
The Ecoboost Mustang has the updated 2.3 with dual injection that not only solves the issue of any soot buildup, but makes about 15% more power. I'm hoping it might be possible to swap the heads at some point down the line.
II donât know too much about either but if itâs the same 2.7 as the f-150 with graphite iron block, offset con rods, cracked rod and main bearing itâs very much built like a diesel. Iâd expect more overhead from that engine if youâre performance minded or plan on working it hard.
Not too sure about the guts of the 2.3 other than itâs under square with a bigger bore and much bigger stroke than the 2.7 and less compression. Which I guess is good for more boost.
That said I have two rangers in the fleet I oversee and I hate how unrefined the 2.3 feels. Buzzy as hell
I think I was watching a video online when one of the model years came out. In any case it seems that the car has good safety ratings https://www.iihs.org/ratings/vehicle/ford/bronco-4-door-suv/2024
Man, why you gotta be like that? I bought a Ranger Raptor and don't live anywhere near sand dunes. I had a hellcat before and didn't drive it 200mph and drag race at every light. Just let people drive what they want, if non-enthusiasts didn't buy these cars there would only ever be boring CUVs.
I think the most interesting thing is how you admit itâs a pavement princess lol. Truly incredible people buy off road vehicles to never take off road.
Maybe I missed it, but did you mention if hard or soft top? Wifey is considering one for her next daily, and the wind noise factor may matter to us because we do a lot of road trips...but we're planning on the dual tops. So, I'm really hoping your wind noise complaints are related to a soft top?
My gf has a hard top. For what itâs worth, itâs absolutely brutal on the road at high speeds. Anything over 50 has crazy road noise. Like my ears are hurting bad after 30âmins at most.
How recently did you do this? both the trade in and interest rate puzzle me. Thinking of trading my 22 in with half the mileage and i was thinking i *might* get 30k. This has me encouraged though.
Doesnât the adaptive cruise not take you down to a full stop because Ford wants to charge you $500 a year for your vehicle to do that? Thats what stopped me from looking at any future Ford vehicles.
-> Itâs full steel, but you canât really mount anything to it. <-
Please tell me this is warranty related.. the tools and physical ability required are extremely negligible..
The capable bumper can be swapped for the FP bumper that has mounting hardware, but mounting anything on the capable bumper interferes with front parking sensors
>Road noise is bad. We took it on a short 3 hour road trip and the wind noise was kind of exhausting.Â
This exact comment is what I hear from a lot of Wrangler owners too that don't realize how much it affects you until you live with it for a while. It's also part of the reason I am pushing for Ford to bring over the Everest to the states. It would be like a Bronco except more liveable in that there is less of a roof leak or road noise issues.
For what it's worth, starting with the 2025 model year they've added additional sound deadening and an acoustic windshield. I'm not sure how much it'll help, 2025s are just hitting lots now and I haven't seen anyone do measurements yet.
The hard top OP has (the molded-in-color or MIC top) is notorious for having problems. Some people get good roofs, some people have awful, horrible experiences. From everything I gathered on the owner forums prior to putting in my order, the painted hard tops available since the 2024 model year don't have the issues that plague the MIC tops, so that's what I opted for. Seems kinda fucked up that Ford continues to offer the MIC top though.
I got a 2024 with the MIC sound deadening top, and at worst get a slight whistle over 70 MPH when it's windy. I expected it so it's not annoying, but so far my roof has been quiet otherwise. Even when it was well below freezing, it was still fine despite the complaints I heard about seals contracting to the point that it was hell for people.
Apparently there was a revision of the hard tops within the last couple of years, but it's still hit or miss.
My Filipino coworker has an Everest that he absolutely LOVES, I was surprised to learn about it and he was surprised to learn that they aren't sold in the US! They're slick SUVs.
If you own a car where to too can come off/go down, BUY EARPLUGS.
They make motorcycle specific plugs that just lessen wind noise, you can still hear the car, the radio, and other cars.
I always where mine when I go topless on the interstate
Eh shoulda kept the s550 v8 especially if you were able to buy it during the pre-COVID Stone Age times. You wonât ever be able to buy a car like that for that cheap ever again. Then again where would the new car industry be then if itâs not for rich fickle consumers like us good Americans huh
> You wonât ever be able to buy a car like that for that cheap ever again.
Maybe if it was a GT350 or Mach 1, but for a regular GT? No way. Ford made a billion of them. I'm genuinely surprised he even got $31k for his because that's what dealers are selling them for and they need to take their cut. [Here's](https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/f3dd9edd-bb6c-456b-b783-7d10057e784a/) one with a clean title, accident free, even fewer miles and a year newer for a bit less.
I considered one of these when they came out but pricing is just outright insane imo. Like I get it, it's a post covid world now, but still lol.Â
I also realized I'll never give up v8 noises until I have to for whatever reason. So anything I get will be in addition to this car.Â
Heh, I just put in an order for a '25 Badlands (Eruption Green, of course!) a couple of weeks ago that I'll be trading in my Ecoboost Mustang for. I originally had my heart set on the new 4Runner until I realized for $100 more than the hybrid ORP I wanted I could have something more capable and not have to give up driving stick just yet!
I love my Mustang, but there's nowhere to really drive it around here, and I'm getting to the age now where I need something more practical that can better handle the winters around here and let us take more trips and go camping and take the dog places. I also work remotely and I am fucking tired of being stuck in this goddamn house all the time.
Are you the eco boost version of me ? Basically my same thoughts. I work remote so getting out is becoming something I value more. Itâs also annoying to be down to one car for 7 months.
Same. Big time. If you're in Indiana by chance please come check out my badlands I just got. Fast cars grt old because you can't really use them...legally
I get it man. Iâm starting to come around on that idea quickly. Iâm at the point where I still do drive it fast and itâs still fun, but then you look down and see your speedometer and itâs like WTF am I doing this for right now? Certain cars, and some more than others, are just the ultimate test of self control while driving them.
Iâm thinking my next vehicle will probably be a pickup for awhile and then Iâll probably get sucked in to a Porsche for my mid life crisis purchase
Real life midlife crisis - Kawasaki H2 - 200+ Hp supercharged road legal superbike, which is the epitome of midlife crisis on wheels and it comes in lurid Kawasaki green.
20 year old me would have thought....cool!, 40+ year old me thinks - my licence would not survive that if I used the power on tap and what can it do on road that anything 600cc and up naturally aspirated can't do for way less money?
Slow vehicles are more to push to their limits within the law than a fast vehicle you can only use to 2/10ths of its potential.
My midlife crisis would be something like an Aston Martin shooting brake or a BMW M5 wagon / Audi RS4 or 6 Avant (yeah I love my wagons, had 5 hatchbacks, 1 sedan and 3 estates in my life and it's only the wagons I think really fondly of )
I just want me a late 80s bronco II. My dad had a lifted one, with rear stabilizers(possibly due to some engine work) Rancho 9000s and some reasonably sized but inoffensive 33x12.5s.
Had a really nice custom dark brown metallic paint job with an airbrushed wizard on the back tailgate.. guess his handle..
Exactly same. The only two cars I ever consider are either the latest Mustang or a Bronco. This is a good read in that it kinda re-affirms what a lot of pre-existing reviews said, and this is legit. Happy to stay with the Stang. Still like the Bronco but probably wonât own one. The new Scout Traveler looks cool though.
I bought a 2 door manual Bronco as I wanted to start going to local off road meetups. My previous vehicles were sport bikes, an sti, a gti, a Miata, and a fiesta st.
The only vehicle I enjoyed more than the Bronco was the Miata
Are you me? I own a 2022 manual Bronco, but previously had a 2020 STI, 2014 Fiesta ST, and sport bike. Iâm with you (but life situations probably dictate that). Itâs hard to pick a favorite. The FiST was heavily modified, but man it was fun and bulletproof. The STI was my dream car and there was nothing like it. The Bronco brings a lot of joy in an era where having wife and kids donât make the others possible. I actually donât miss owning a bike.Â
Iâd put the FiST at the top of my list.Â
I have a 2016 FiST Kona Blue (Mountune fitted and tuned) and I choose to drive her over my modified '09 370z often. She is my street legal go cart. Great car
I feel the same about my focus, for a family car it handles so nicely and even without being the top st spec (just an st line x with the sport suspension package) it feels like I'd chicken out long before I hit it's limits .
It's a lease so I'll miss it when it's gone, giving thought to buying it when the lease is up (as I do little mileage now and it ticks all my boxes in terms of spec - I just hate the stupid touchscreen though, too much is routed through it for my liking)
I had a friend get a 24 and it had so many often repeated powertrain issues Ford took it back and refunded the entire purchase price toward any other Ford vehicle.
They look cool but itâs disappointing Ford aped everything about the Wrangler including being a money pit.
Eruption Green was almost enough to get me in a Bronco by itself.
I Turo'ed one for a week last summer, I was considering a Squatch Badlands and while there were some things that I liked, the Wrangler just drew me back.
The bronco experience is the same as a jeep lol
The bronco was designed by lawyers basically. They changed it just enough to not end up in court. BUT you get the lovely benefit of listening to the EcoScam engines sound like it's permanently farting
I've owned my bronco since 22 and you hit the nail on the head with some of your complaints:
>I didnât get the luxury package because the adaptive cruise is useless in the Bronco as it will not take you down to a stop and restart like some other ford cars
I like the lux package but holy shit this is aggravating. It stops at 10mph so absolutely useless for stop and go traffic. But on wide open stretches or even moderate slowdowns where you can use it, I absolutely love it.
>The upgraded stereo is garbage
Especially on the 2 door, the sub rattle is god awful.
>Itâs like a child. It definitely has its flaws and makes mistakes, but at the end of the day you irrationally love it
And that is my feeling as well. Despite its issues, it's one of the best cars i've driven. Lots of fun, and just love driving it. I'm not a hit the track kind of guy, and prefer usable fun over 0-60 times. It can handle any terrain I throw at it, and frequently use it to go camping.
I love this thing, and smile whenever I sit in the driver's seat.
Had a Genesis G70 and a Bronco sport for the wife. Traded both in for a Bronco 2 Door Badlands. We both now work from home and donât need two cars. I mostly agree with all of your points on the Bronco. Itâs fun. We wonât keep it forever but love having the ability to take the top panels off in the summer. During winter in the Midwest, itâs a game changer getting around compared to the other two cars we had. I do miss the speed, handling, and luxury in the Genesis but I do not miss the second car payment
My neighbor has a Bronco Raptor and my friend is a Ford dealer who's offered me 20 off of one but I've always resisted because I'm pretty sure I'd be dead or in jail in 10 minutes with one of those.
Posts like this make me seriously reconsider though
>even the Bronco Raptor is slower than a Honda Civic Hybrid
No it's not. The Bronco Raptor is quicker than the Civic Hybrid in every single acceleration test. Source: Car and Driver...

Hey if you get a chance you need to hit a route in CO that's called the alpine loop and if you do that you're only like 2.5-3 hours from moab.
Highly recommend the alpine loop it's 70 ish miles
If you do moab, chicken corners was fun not too tought but 40 or miles.
Obviously have to hit the hells revenge trail! Your bronco will definitely impress you!!!!
https://imgur.com/a/NdEpHc3
This reminds me of my evo vs xterra dilema. I loved my evo when i was bombing up or down a mountain road it was downright magical, but commuting was terrible. Stiff suspension, road noise, bad acoustics, bad mpg, have to look out for parking bumps, etc.
The Xterra on the other hand would cucoon me with a nice thump of the door. Parking bump hah! Decent acoustics and suspension. And off road it was every bit as fun as the evo id bring it back muddy almost every weekend haha.
I miss them both but for very different reasons lol.

My wife has that exact same model and color! Itâs definitely cool but man o man that wind noise is brutal. She doesnât mind it. I like a quiet interior, so we take my F150 most places when traveling together
Great review! I didn't like how it drove on the highway (shocker) and bought a Wrangler instead. Big mistake also! Maybe Bronco and Wrangler are only good for low mileage drivers?
Sounds like a well-thought-out trade :) Its interesting how you went from a V8 Mustang to a Bronco and still find the driving experience fun, even with the performance trade-off.
So glad I let my order go back in 2022. It was clear these platforms are just the new mall crawlers like a majority of the Jeep fans out there. Donât get me wrong, nice looking style, but I just went with something more âprovenâ vs trend #landcruiser
My wife went from a lifted TJ Wrangler to a 2 door Sasquatch OBX Bronco, and she absolutely loves it.
Going on year 3 with it (late 2022 model) and aside from normal Sync connectivity issues and a bad drivers window motor, itâs treated her well.
Hers is also Eruption Green, and you arenât lying about how amazing that color looks, especially when freshly washed and waxed and in direct sunlight. It just pops so well!
As far as the running boards go, we got hers with the full length boards, and then one time we did some heavy off roading with it, we took them off as not to damage them. As it turns out, we not only liked the look of the truck without the boards, they donât even do much in the way of assistance for us when getting into it, so theyâve been sitting in the shed for almost 2 years now!
Great review. The Wind noise inside the Bronco (drove me crazy on the test drive) is why I bought a Ford Ranger Raptor. I know not an apple to apple comparison but I do like the truck. Iâm not sure if Ford sells insulated panels like Jeep (or aftermarket) does for the wrangler to help with lowering inside cabin wind noise? Maybe worth checking into.
