Black screen after today’s Nvidia driver update
Posted by Selknam22@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 551 comments
Today I updates my gpu (a asus GeforceRTX3060ti) through geforce experience as usual doing a fast install of it, but when the screen went black (as it usually does) it didnt turn back on while the pc stayed on as normal. Waited a while and nothing. Looked up solutions and tried pressing Win+Ctrl+shift+b to reset the driver and nothing. My motherboard (msi mag b550 tomahawk) doesnt have integrated graphics so i just turned the pc off. Now after the msi bios logo it just stays as a black screen. It does say displayport and the screen flickers a couple of times like it is on but no image appears.
Im not sure if i can even enter windows in safe mode or repair mode out of fear of it not showing it to me. Now i dont know what to do, so any help would be welcome.
fpsdende@reddit
im late to the party but the latest nvida driver causes black screeens ( game ready driver)
never updating this shit again.
Massive time wasted troubleshooting
Antique-Map4073@reddit
the latest update idk it was kinda recent DONT update it, it got my pc fucked, it black screen and my cursor was just the spinning blue circle, i had to start my pc in safe mode and uninstall the latest driver
mason1669@reddit
Just installed the 572.60 update on my RTX3070 and everytime I load a game I get a black screen…. Specifically overwatch 2. Forced to hard shutdown of and load back into profile. Still don’t have a fix. Trying to install an older driver from March to see if it fixes the issue.
UchiR@reddit
Same. New update locked me out of my computer. Had to boot up in safe mode and uninstall the graphics card drive via device manager. Solved my problem.
Evyps@reddit
I'm having the same issue, just googled to see if anyone else was and found this thread - so it's nice to see it's not just on my end. I keep having to boot into safe mode and uninstalling the driver in the device manager. Bit annoying, lol
Ephyrel93@reddit
Newest update gave me random black screens on 4090 suprim x amazing.... need to roll back theb
Sh33p4@reddit
This one just got me. Full black screen.
Ephyrel93@reddit
hey they just realeased a hot fix that fixed every issue for me! havent had any issues since would adivse installing this one google it
Ok-Ad4847@reddit
Tried everything and still having black screen.. ddi in safe mode installed 3 old drivers restored windows tried manually uninstall nothing works I'm about to reinstall windows...
floge@reddit
Did you ever get it fixed? I have the same problem and even reinstalling windows just got me to the same point of endless loading cursor on a black screen..
Ok-Ad4847@reddit
Had to install a 5 month old driver
Easy_Somewhere4514@reddit
576.52 just did the black/ gray screen.( after 1 hard restartl I could still pull up task manager but not regular screen. I cntl+window+shift+b to reset my driver and after a minute it came back. I was clenched the entire time. Lol
rohnaddict@reddit
I got this problem with the 576.28 driver update, on 07.05.2025, on 4070 and Windows 11. Here's how I fixed it, if anyone is suffering still from the same problem:
Now my system works.
coolbloxxie@reddit
THANK YOU for linking to the driver! just saved my life

Cara, fiz seu processo...tava dando certo, só que antes de etapa 3 concluir, o note por duas vezes apagou de volta, voltando a tela preta....como resolve isso...caramba

Is there any way to get out of this? Do I restart or.. I just got stuck in it to. I have a 3060
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
See if my Edit in this post helps you, if not lmk and we'll see what we can do
ZeepBros@reddit
I simply hard shut down and restarted. Cqme back with no issues, although my driver update may have been an improved predecessor of the same screwed up update, butthw same nonetheless. Most of my updates came directly from GeForce Experience. This is the first update I got from the newer Nvidia shadowplayer which causes my screen to go completely black (until I was forced to restart the pc). This time it completely refused to let me install GeForce, I suppose they're trying to push the new version despite it being unstable, not tp mention the Drivers!
eh, who knows.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Yeah idk what they are thinking but i’m glad you got your screen back!
ZeepBros@reddit
Thanks! I appreciate that, after checking event viewer related assessments of the Nvidia drivers, it came back "0" which means it installed just fine. Although I do find it a little strange, I won't lie.
KPDDIESEL@reddit
This is shameful. Two different rigs this has happened. My main rig and my ex main rig that I sold. That one had a 2060 dual with a fresh install of win 11 and the black screen never came back. My current rig, Ryzen 7 7700 and 3070ti EVGA same thing. The part that is supposed to go black for just a minute stays black and doesn't come back. Funniest thing? On both rigs, a hard restart worked and the driver was successfully installed. Those of you worried to death, remember Nvidia is prioritizing AI slop over gamers now, so this is unfortunately par for the course.
ZeepBros@reddit
Ai slop is a great way to word the travesty of their dastardly branding target now.
edibleretardent@reddit
Just did the newest one out and it caused the same issue.
Beneficial-Tone-8695@reddit
Just updated my drivers went to reboot and black screened after about 10 minutes nothing so I was gonna try one of the solutions above. What am I supposed to do if the power button don’t even turn the system off
No-Basil-7397@reddit
Good God it happend to me,installed 572 driver then whenever i boot my pc it goes black screen after windows logo,i thought my 3080 going kaput.reinstalled clean windows 11 without nvidia driver and now my pc can boot normaly.
Bob_556@reddit
I had this issue today with ver 576.52. Luckily my motherboard has integrated graphics and it uses HDMI, so I dug out a cable and was able to connect both. This made resolving the issue a bit easier.
Initially had to enter bios and change the default graphics device using IGX instead of PCIe 1. Then I was able to log in and launch the Nvidia App. On the drivers tab it I clicked “reinstall” and it did the usual black screen flash for a brief moment then returned to normal (monitor was still connected with the IGX HDMI connection when I observed this).
I changed the input on my monitor to DP, but something seemed off as all my open windows disappeared and I couldn’t locate my cursor. Quickly worked it out - I changed screen projection from extend to mirror (Windows + A, scroll to second page if you don’t know where to find it), as it was treating it as two monitors and the default behaviour was set to extend the screen. After fixing this and verifying that my display was working correctly through the GPU I restarted and changed the bios back to use PCIe 1 as default display device and it now boots cleanly with no issues.
I don’t think I had experienced this problem with the older GeForce Experience app, so if this continues to happen regularly with future driver updates the issue might be in the new Nvidia App and its installation of drivers.
Note: The Nvidia App did update itself on launch prior to installing the driver, so it might be worth ensuring that you restart your PC before doing driver updates if the app if has just been updated as it might be part of the issue.
RichSilv3r@reddit
Thanks to your comment I realized my extended display was extending to the same monitor instead of my 2nd. I used Windows key + P a few times to reach my main monitor back in order to be able to see my stuff
Virulence-@reddit
I also got the same issue (4070 Ti Super). I'm trying to reroll it to the previous version.
Economy-Location-193@reddit
Same here brother, i got 4070 Ti SUPER and the driver 576.02 is even worse... am using 572.83 which is totally safe from black screens but still minor bugs such as wake from sleep crashes (windows 11).
If you encounter Black Screen (driver turns off DP port) just turn ON&OFF x3 it will activate windows repair wizard and go to safe mode no. 4 and after boot up just uninstall driver from Device Management, no need for DDU. go back to normal windows which it will boot with poor resolution and install 572.83 driver. But Please Dont install 572.16 or 576.02 drivers, too many bugs !!
AngryWildMango@reddit
Some PCs you can hold f8 to get into Windows repair.
Korbitr@reddit
One month later, and here I am trying to roll back to 576.02 because that one was stable for me while 576.52 gets me the black screen.
CriGia@reddit
I would like to thank you everyone on this post, but this comment helped me the most. Also, for people with ROG PC's make sure to press f12 or f9 when you see the ROG logo to enter the windows repair wizard.
Happy_Profile_6617@reddit
You saved my ass! It all went black but just unplugged my second monitor restarted and everything is fine for now
T00THRE4PER@reddit
Yeah Im not even running a second monitor so I have no clue where to start except me taking my pc apart and hotswapping to my old school like 10 year old vid card and see if it enables a picture. Ive restarted my pc about 40 times since ive seen this black screen and cant figure it out lmao.
Altair05@reddit
The moral of the story is don't upgrade your drivers unless something is broken maybe. I've been noticing some stutters in a few game since I updated my drivers yesterday. How do yall roll drivers back? I don't see an option for that in the NGE app.
Official_VaporX@reddit
device manager > display adapters > right click (your GPU) > properties > driver tab > Roll Back Driver
Altair05@reddit
Huh, I can see the setting, but it's grayed out. Guessing it doesn't have a back up driver to roll back to?
OttawaMax@reddit
same issue, did you find a solution?
Altair05@reddit
So I was mistaken, there's a way to roll back in the nvidia app. If your last driver is the one you want to roll back to, open the nvidia app, go to the drivers tab, and scroll all the way to the bottom. It should state your current and previous driver. You can reinstall the old one there. If that doesn't work, you can try https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/1ccssm0/complete_ddu_guide/
TimerinLoves@reddit
and in case you want to "roll it back" after uninstalling the driver, you can specifically search for that driver by typing for example "4070 driver 566" and google will show you a download link from the nvidia site from that older driver version. incase somebody needs it.
SnooPeripherals8140@reddit
Thank you, this worked for me
Virulence-@reddit
What I did try was downloading the previous version from the web
Acrobatic_Fox281@reddit
Same thing happened to me, black screen, booting into safe mode only to be met with a pin error. Only thing that fixed that was disabling pin only and having it so I could enter password as well.
Virulence-@reddit
It happened to me again after a windows update. I only had to keep disconnecting my other two monitors to log into windows.
Sesleri@reddit
did you end up finding a solution?
Virulence-@reddit
I reckon for the most part, just disconnecting the monitors did the trick
Sesleri@reddit
Yeah, I had to get that new hotfix they just put out for this driver off their website only
Virulence-@reddit
I kept getting the same issues whenever I updated the driver
TCr0wn@reddit
How did you manage to disable pin? I can’t bc I can’t get to safe mode
Timely-Ad-2421@reddit
My laptop is having an issue where the screen is glitched mostly black because of the refresh rate. It boots at the higher refresh rate automatically so I can’t revert the update or change anything. I am out of ideas at this point. Been over a month without my laptop.
TCr0wn@reddit
BRO this is exactly happening to me now
How did you fix? I can’t get into safe mode
Virulence-@reddit
Just as I wrote, unplugged the other two monitors. I reckon if it still doesn't show, just reboot again. I feel like the driver made the GPU confused if we have more than 1 monitor. I have not managed to boot into safe mode at all so my fix is purely just reconnecting the monitor until I can log into windows
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Good luck my friends, if you need help maybe i can provide some support
tripz0000@reddit
How can i delete the driver, where can i find it

itsdigo@reddit
I unplugged two monitors and it got me past the black screen, then reinstalled the driver and it went black again, restarted my computer and plugged my monitors back in and I'm not touching anything else since it's working

Found a fix which works for me guys,
Install the latest gpu driver from the website "https://www.nvidia.com/en-in/drivers/" by selecting your gpu. Use express installation. I also turned off fast boot up mode in startup and edited the power plan to maximum performance.
gijoel77@reddit
Yikes, these black screens are becoming more and more frequent. I think the last 3 driver updates caused black screens for me, where it literally never happened in the 10 years prior that I’ve been using Nvidia graphics cards, updating their drivers seamlessly.
Fortunately, when I reboot, my pc tells me the driver installed correctly. Annoying and concerning though.
KPDDIESEL@reddit
Literally the same man. Again, this happened on TWO completely different rigs. One was an Intel 10th gen system with a 2060 dual and my newer rig with a 7700 and a 3070ti. Absolute SHAME on NVIDIA. Don't forget your most common pc user is already terrified of updating drivers as these things seem like rocket science when you're used to your phone or console making everything all safe and harmless. What is some prebuilt user supposed to think when they updated their drivers to play some Doom the Dark Ages and walk away to grab a drink only to come back and see a perma black screen. Normal and reasonable solutions may be obvious to some of us more inclined but a bigger majority than you think log in, download steam and play games.
gijoel77@reddit
Truth. For what Nvidia is charging for their cards - and what the company is worth - driver updates should be a flawless experience, like it used to be.
Latter_Coach75@reddit
Super late to this. Had the problem and it only got worse with latest update (16/05?). Tried everything I had to roll back on the drivers. (March) Played a solid 2h without an issue

Still having the issues until today for 2 months, tried different driver version, some can last two weeks until the black screen issue happened, some didn’t even last for minutes, any suggestions which driver version is the most stable for a RTX4070 Super? I have checked the driver updates notes, they all fixing 50 series issue, are they even care about other series? Also I would like to ask, is changing any of the hardware parts help? Because I’m tired of this happening all the time while I’m trying to play some games after a day of work.. any suggestions help thanks

floge@reddit
I cannot get into safe mode via cmd. Is there another way?
Bigbicho23@reddit
Hold shift and restart your PC using Windows itself
floge@reddit
My problem was that I couldn't do anything in Windows. Only black screen so not possible to restart it other than press the power button on the case.
Decent-Breakfast340@reddit
If you restart your computer 3-4 times it should manage to take you to a recovery screen. Click on troubleshoot, more options, then you can click restart to take you to safe mode.
Bigbicho23@reddit
I think this all has to do with the NVidia app, apparently it is corrupting the downloads that are made through it and it is giving me a black screen in my case. What I did was install manually through the website that installed normally. I have suffered a lot in the last few days, so I believe that this NVidia app is largely to blame.
Dangerous-Most704@reddit
we can take same problem with me leptop after install last driver me procesor temperature go in 110 115* after on me fan don't get down im scared and try to restart and nothing works after see this i unistalled driver and now get in normal at 40 50* nvidia it's sucks to mach this years
ElCentinela@reddit
same here. while updating driver via Nvidia App the screen turned black without recovering so I did a hard reset and when I checked the instaled driver it seems it was the new one, however I clicked on reinstall driver to be sure the process went fully completed and the settings screen said I had the previous one. I reinstalled and this time the whole process went well.
shezzylala@reddit
Update 576.40 is doing this to my EVGA Gefroce RTX 3090. I'm so glad I came across this thread, I literally thought my PC had died or the GPU had completely crapped. It is the update released May 12, 2025, I installed 2 days ago because I was experiencing lag & hitching in my games. Today after attempting a restart b/c my browser and a few other small apps weren't working it booted back up with black screens and a cursor, and the 2nd time with an error about NVIDIA app being unable to start.
Ctrl alt delete and sign out then back in again for some reason worked, but now I'm terrified to do much of anything.

Worried-Permission58@reddit
"F"this im going to start looking for a AMD gpu now
Disastrous-Board5489@reddit
This is a driver issue, good rule of thumb is DO NOT UPDATE DRIVERS UNLESS YOU REQUIRE SOMETHING IN THE NEW UPDATE, learned this the hard way.
My fix was unplugging my main monitor and for some reason I was able to boot into Windows recovery on second monitor. Not sure how to fix this issue with only one monitor (maybe switch cable to a different display port of HDMI output on GPU). Next, you want to type in "device manager" into windows search on bottom left. Find your GPU under "Display adapters" and left click twice or right click into properties. Go to "Driver" tab and click on "Roll back driver". Now if you updated to this new driver and did a clean installation it will likely be grayed out and you won't be able to click it. Go to Nvidia website, find drivers for your GPU model and install an older version (preferably the one you had before updating). Extract files and run exe from downloaded driver and perform a clean installation, your current driver should be a later version.

I was able to get to Safe Mode and I used DDU (display driver uninstaller) to get rid of all the Nvidia drivers. Then I installed a driver from December 2024 and it has been working great. This problem started in January 2025 so any driver earlier than that will work.
Anonymous-45-@reddit
Just fought this as well after doing the update today. Just like OPs fix.
Reboot until windows troubleshooter pops up. Follow the setting there until you find reboot in safe mode. Once in safe mode go to device manager > display adapters and right click properties of the Nvidia card. I rolled back to my previous version AND had to go to uninstall that new version from the "Apps" section as well. After that was done a reboot worked like normal and I was back in.

Rahzin@reddit
For what it's worth for anyone else looking at this, I got a very similar issue to this about 2-3 weeks ago when one of the driver updates came out. I've got Windows 11 24H2 installed, and am running a 9800X3D and 4070 Ti. I've been using the Nvidia App to update drivers for ages, but for some reason, 2-3 weeks ago I went to update and got a black screen about 20 seconds into the "installing display driver" part. Computer never came back on, was not responsive, etc. Cut power, booted back up, and it was fine, but the new driver was not installed. Tried again, same thing. I tried uninstalling everything Nvidia using DDU, then downloading and installing a driver from February from the Nvidia website, and that installed fine. The next week, I downloaded the most recent driver manually and installed it, again, worked fine. Today, I tried installing the driver that was just released through the Nvidia App (which had one or two updates since last time), and had the black screen problem again. Downloaded the driver manually from the Nvidia website and did a clean install, everything working fine.
So, I don't know if my issue is necessarily the same as OP, but it seems like updating through the Nvidia App might be broken for some of us currently. Just download them manually from Nvidia's website and see if that works for you.
supaicyboy@reddit
Bro I did all this and my gpu was running fine for a month then went black again RIP
narukamiTank@reddit
Then your issue is not the same There's a difference between black screen and no display Your issue is probably the HDMI cable
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
I think then your issue is not the same lol cuz it wasn’t as simple as a hdmi problem since i fixed it a WHILE ago and the cable is still working. But i’m curious to what do you refer to as a “black screen” instead since apparently you can see stuff while your screen is black??
narukamiTank@reddit
Yes, have you been able to do login? If you didn't even saw the login screen then you simply have no display What meant as black screen is after logging in, you see nothing but the screen is still on and receiving display You can replicate it by killing the explorer.exe process
supaicyboy@reddit
Hey this is partly what I’m going thru. I can send you a quick video. 3070ti this past2 weeks never had black screen problems until now. While plugged in if randomly or in middle of the game the sceeens just go black while pc is still running.
narukamiTank@reddit
Is the PC still on when that happens? Try using Ctrl alt del to see it
supaicyboy@reddit
Hey I’m replying now because for about a month I had zero issues with my gpu after believing it was fried however today the black screen happened once again in the middle of a game after not happening for a month. I realized I was playing on the last dp of the gpu and thought that was a fix since the other ports would give me black screen when I load into a game but now this port began doing it too. What’s weird it’s that I can run games fine on the pc with the hdmi plugged in the gpu still but will immediately get black screen after I plug a DP IF IM in a game
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Yes i did saw the bios logo at startup but then nothing, just a black screen
narukamiTank@reddit
Yeah then there was no display, not the same
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
But it wasnt a cable problem, how do i fix it then?
narukamiTank@reddit
Honestly if the bios shows and then nothing more It's usually the HDMI cable, not necessarily bad, but maybe just connected to the motherboard instead of your GPU, common mistake
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Uhh nope, was properly connected to my gpu cuz i checked it a bunch of times
narukamiTank@reddit
Have you tried removing your GPU and connecting to the motherboard? Maybe it's a defect on the GPU But it's definitely not related to the driver, before you log into windows the driver is not even loaded yet
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Hmm weird, but if its not a defect on the driver then why did it happen just as i updated to the latest nvidia driver?

I would disagree. I installed the newest driver 10 minutes ago 8:30 pm on Mar. 26th and I'm currently staring at a black screen. 😢
narukamiTank@reddit
Just had that issue, heres how you can make your pc work again
CTRL + SHIFT + ESC Will open the task manager
Go to the nvidea processes, and kill the proccess until they restart
Start by killing the nvcontainer.exe(usually theres 4 of this, kill one by one until all of them restart
After that do the same with NVIDEA Overlay.exe
After that the explorer(the UI of your PC) should start again.
Another thing to try is restarting the NvContainerLocalSystem service.
If i had to guess its something to do with the same process being executed by both SYSTEM and your USER, when it should be just SYSTEM.
Something you could try but not sure if it works and i don't feel like rebooting now, is disable these services from autostarting
go into msconfig
Go into services
Disable Nvidea related services(there should be 2 or 3)

Hi, i am in a similar situation, i have a Gigabyte 4070 Ti, i just did the 572.83 update and got a black screen, waited maybe 30 minutes to restart manually just to be 100% sure, cause i started reading stuff on this thread. Now i'm scared that whenever i'll turn the pc off and on again i might have problems. Did you have any problems after your post? Is there anything i can do to be sure nothing will happen?
rhinosteveo@reddit
Nope, no additional problems
LostInMyADD@reddit
I disagree... black screened. I manually reboot... now nvidia app was removed from my desktop and it still didn't install that version.
said666@reddit
Nope, I'm still getting black screens randomly and now it's even getting worse and way more often
rhinosteveo@reddit
Damn, sorry! On a 4080 Super too?
said666@reddit
I'm on a 4070 Super. I've read somewhere this could be because of the Nvidia app. I will DDU -> reboot -> Install the latest Nvidia driver downloaded from the website -> Opt-out of installing the Nvidia App and see if it works. If it doesn't, then I will try again with an old driver, maybe the 566.36. if it also doesn't work, then I will contact Amazon support and ask for a replacement as my GPU probably is doomed. If this ALSO doesn't work then I will cry in a corner and next time I will buy the red competitor...
rhinosteveo@reddit
Can’t see a world where a clean driver install hurts so it’s definitely a good course of action!
said666@reddit
Tried both clean drivers installations, no luck. Change of plans, I will cry now, instead of waiting until the very end, and then contact the vendor for some solution.

they released a new driver this morning: 572.70 that also claims to fix the black screen problem. so i guess im trying that one.
CuriousHamster2437@reddit
I installed that today and am still having this issue. What even the hell is this shit? It's more than just "black screen issues" because both my cpu and ram mobo lights are on, and this didn't start until like an hour after I updated my drivers so I doubt it's actually an issue with my ram or cpu.
Loftie__@reddit
I installed this latest driver update yesterday (572.70) and it's causing the black screen. The only way I can get past is to unplug one of my monitors (one is connected via hdmi, the other dp) don't matter which one I unplug, but I reboot and it works. Can plug the second monitor in once it fires up and the second monitor works. But as soon as I shut down and turn back on.. black screen again???
First-Kangaroo9988@reddit
I’m sorry to hear. I haven’t encountered anymore black screens since. Best of luck!

yeah, no .. This is the same version that rendered my 3070 unusable earlier today. Its been going on for 3 or 4 evenings in a row now. Worked kinda okay.ish with the driver from jan, but then automagicaly it started hapening again.
DP wont wake up not even if i hard restart the pc 1x. it comes back if i do it 2x. ???
Also, i use same monitor for my ps4 and im 100positive it works. I now switched to hdmi. And will probably just get that 9070.. Its seriously not worth my time and effort to betatest their shht - i just wanted to play a game or two, watch a series in the evening.

cosmodrome627@reddit
FIXED IT
After suffering for over two weeks of random black screens, my PC hasn’t crashed for 3 days now. Here’s EXACTLY what I did
1- I used NVCleanstall and DDU to completely remove all old drivers and install 566.36 from NVIDIA’s official websites, NVCleanstall’d the 566.36 to completely remove additional NVIDIA bloatware.
It STILL crashes but less frequently up to this point, but, here’s what I did further more and got to the three day mark with 0 crashes.
2- reseated my GPU, AND reseated the PCIE cables on BOTH the GPU and PSU.
3- Updated my motherboard BIOS to F37 (X570 AORUS mobo)
4- Open settings or your control panel and uninstall NVIDIA app (THIS IS WHERE IT STOPPED CRASHING)
YES, even after manually installing the drivers through their website, THEY still force you to download the abomination NVIDIA app, UNINSTALL IT. UNINSTALL IT. UNINSTALL IT. ALL my problems started when I downloaded their new app.
It’s been 3 days and I haven’t seen a single black screen crash, I REALLY hope this helps someone out there
One-Tradition-5938@reddit
what happens if you just don’t update it? i just got my pc and im scared :( lol
T00THRE4PER@reddit
What happens if I already did install this driver and Im running a 14700Kf with no on board graphics built in? It failed halfway through install and I did a pc restart got video picture then tried reinstalling the graphics driver a second time, it told me to restart to do it so I did now all I get is a black screen and zero ability to mess with or trouble shoot it now. Ive tried spamming bios button with no luck and have retstarted tons of times. When I leave the pc alone long enough during restart I hear windows starting up with its little chime but never see video output.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
When you did the startups, did you do it fast? I also tried turning on and off but with some time in between and didnt get the repair tool to show off. Try doing that with the power button on your case, if you have windows it should work.
T00THRE4PER@reddit
Was gonna try your edited guide fix but it wont be possible I think if I can get any display.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
i also thought that cuz my motherboard also doesn't have integrated graphics, but surprisingly it worked, so give it a try!
T00THRE4PER@reddit
Im about to. Usually when its given me display issues I just set my monitor to cycle inputs and restart it then it pops back. Mildly annoying but this scenario started to happen directly after a video graphics update and it makes me sad they cant test thier software a bit before releasing. Because now I know the problem stemmed from this. But yeah ima try this to get some sort of display back then try your route once I get a display function of some sort back.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
yeah i feel you, and it's insane that it's been like 2 months and it keeps happening like tf
T00THRE4PER@reddit
Added note to what I was saying earlier figured I would come back and tell you but my olde school vid card lives to save the day again. Had hot swapped vid cards like old N64 cartridges and wallah bios and video display activated. Pretty sad they gotta make me resort to hotswapping video cards after screwing up drivers.
Figured this fix may help others with restoring video display that are running a cpu without onboard gfx. This was my fix when I built the machine and wanted to see it power up first time and now it saved my ass again after triflin' nvidia drivers lmao.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
That’s nice to hear! Glad you could make it work
T00THRE4PER@reddit
For reals.
T00THRE4PER@reddit
I did a restart quite quickly after it told me to. But it was a manual one that I clicked from the windows button on the desktop. Im going to throw my old video card in and see if it works to fix the problem. It has worked for me when I was having display issues even setting this rig up a year ago and for some reason swapping to that super old video card gave me display. Then from there I installed windows and setup bios and everything. But I suspect it may have to be done again since Im stuck at a black screen now. Cant even revert video drivers if I cant see whats going on. I get windows to load up I can hear the startup chime but no display. I even typed my key in and attempted the hotkey for reverting video drivers and heard its noise but to no avail.

Selknam22@reddit (OP)
it's ok, i was there so dw. Your pc if fine and alive, its just a driver issue. If you have 2 monitors you could try connecting your 2nd monitor to your motherboards if it has integrated graphics or to another gpu if you have one. If none of those are avaiable try restarting your pc and see if you still have a black screen. If you do, you have to restart your pc in safe mode, for that hard reboot your pc 3 times very fast (restart, wait for the bios icon to load and hard reboot again by holding the power button, after the 3rd attempt your pc should automatically enter the repair tool. Then read the edit that i made in this post that has the steps to follow to enter safe mode. If you still need help lmk!

Lazy-Ring-5501@reddit
Yep, the true solution is buy AMD from now. My last Radeon was 20 years ago. Im coming back to them. My 4070ti is good but this black screen issue is a shame for nVidia. (and I buy nVidia cards since gForce 1 and 2)
Gandindorlf@reddit
Meh I have both a 5090 and a 9070 xt. The radeon software is trash also. At least the 9070 would wake monitors from standby but couldnt render the snow in elden rings consecrated snow fields. Hi so yeah this just happened to me with the 576.02 driver released on april 16, 2025. All that was showing was the mobo logo and then a black screen with an infinite mouse loading icon. What i had to do was manually shut off the pc when the mobo logo came on, had to do this like 3 times until it let me get into recovery mode, from there i simply went back to the last gpu driver with the device manager. If someone is experiencing the same thing, i hope this helps.

i assume lol though according to these comments depends on your series, 40s and 50s are less likelky to have them or they fix themselves after a quick restart or some minutes
JadeAngry@reddit
Hello everyone :) This may not be the exact problem you are having but i also updated my nvidia drivers and got a sort of grey screen with a blue loading cursor, fixing it was pretty easy though. First you need to change your pc to "Safe Mode" if you dont know how there are a lot of videos that show you how. Next you need to uninstall the Nvidia graphics that you installed. Lastly you just switch your computer out of "Safe Mode" before restarting. Hope this helps.
wisetone_@reddit

AttentiveBanana@reddit
Yeah this was horrible, but I managed to find a fix within an hour I booted into safe mode Then I opened device manager
Double clicked display adapters Double clicked Geforce (the graphics card) Then went to the driver section
Then clicked roll back And then waited a few seconds to a minute and restarted the PC after it was done rolling back Then you can download the Nividia App again if you want to but don't download the new drivers (obviously :P) Hope this helps :D

sascha177@reddit
Just happened with my 4070 Super and the 576.02 driver. Installation went to black screen (which would normally then come back to desktop after a second or so) when it came to uninstalling the old driver. I let the PC run for a few minutes, but the screen remained black and nothing else happened. I should probably add that I did a "clean" install and unchecked everything except the video driver since the other two were still current.
Nothing to do, really, besides forcing a shutdown via power-button (are reset-buttons still a thing? My current case doesn't have one.. :D). PC booted back up like normal and the log-in screen and then the desktop appeared like they'll always do.
Opened NV app to see that it still gave me the option to install the driver, so I tried one more time. I still chose "clean install" but left all the boxes checked this time.
Installation went as expected this time around. No idea what the hell was going on during my first attempt.

I had 3080 with new drivers and didnt have this problem. swapped to 4070 ti super and now i get random blackscreens. I tryd to role back to 566.36 but still i got 1 random blackscreen. then i updated to 576.02. still same shit. nvidia app wont update to the new one or i cant find it on nvidia web page anymore it only gives me the currrent driver. 576.02 (april driver) you think this is a driver issue or my gpu?
Formal-Tomorrow-4241@reddit
UPDATE: for anyone seeing this the problem still exists with 572.83 (the latest). I'm on 572.16 I think (might've went a version lower than necessary) but everything is working fine.
SIC_Mando66@reddit
I’ve been getting black screens too when I installed the new drivers, I reset it back to the one from December, but now my screen can’t do 1440p at 180hz anymore. The monitor is able to handle that, that’s how to came, but in windows display settings it only gives me the option to do 1440p at 59.95 hz. Anyone know how to fix that?
Horror_Band144@reddit
Just bricked my 4060ti. Got it running after a couple boots and uninstalling Nvidia app. Hope this helps
Electronic-Swimmer68@reddit
Just manually download the latest driver from nvidia, and install that. Works as apposed to their auto downloader

RTX 4070. Black screen with the 572.83 drivers. I managed to fix it by booting into safe mode, uninstalling with DDU and then installing the 572.47 drivers without the Nvidia App.

3 weeks ago my pc whent complete dark. i had installed win11 new and then the drivers as normal. from that moment on my pc didnt bootet even anymore up with DP cable. with hdmi it worked. ive RMA the PC and got it back saturday. just startet pc up and just had black screen... tought this was fixed?
pivor@reddit
Is this thing still going? My 3090 started to experience black screens 3 days ago, i think on a latest driver, i'm currently trying my luck on 556, idk if something updated those last few days, but i can't get a day without a black screen, no matter the conditions, under load or not.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
From what ppl has been reporting in this post yeah, this is still an issue even though Nvidia supposedly put out a fix for it some weeks ago
pivor@reddit
And Black screened, but i think my GPU is dying, had no issues 4 days ago on a driver i think from february, neither latest one or 556.36 helped, with or without NVIDIA app :(
supaicyboy@reddit
Same issue, black screens every day. Tried re seating, re plugging, and sometimes the pc will run for longer but either way I get the black screen while pc running. Constantly and if I launch warzone for example forget it midway into game I just see screens go black and I’m forced to push to shutdown.
Impressive-Promise51@reddit
I did the same and after i restart my pc...the Driver disappeared...WTF
supaicyboy@reddit
Bro same I’ve gone through hell last past 2 weeks started with screen going black. After trying to figure it out the driver went missing. Didn’t appear anyone like actually gone, and after installing drivers it’s constantly giving me black screen 3070ti never had this happen. I’ll have to unplug the hdmi and connect to mobo just to look at the screen since I’m my pc is running but no display showing eventually I was able to have have gpu display port show hit after launching a game a or anything it goes black. Pain don’t know what to try
rystrave@reddit
I've been having the same issues with the Nvidia Drivers since before 572.16. I wanna roll back even further because it wasn't until the mid-Janaury update did I start having these issues
Last night, being hopeful, I installed the latest Driver update because I planned on playing Monster Hunter later that evening. I restarted and was greeted again with the black screens. This time I did DDU and completely uninstalled my video drivers. After a few hiccups I was able to get logged back in to manually install the Nvidia driver that I downloaded directly from the website. I restarted to test it and everything worked fine
I will find out this afternoon if my PC is still "okay" or if I'll have to do another restore point.
I have a 3070ti with an MSI mobo (unsure of the model) with a 13th gen CPU, and my PC is a little over 2 years old. I honestly think a lot to it is stemming from the CPU and it not communicating correctly or some shit. I'm not an IT person to really understand it all though
Regardless for the past 2 months the Nvidia drivers have basically been crap. I never had to push the power button to turn my PC off before this and I've done it well over 200 times at this point I've the past few weeks.
supaicyboy@reddit
Bro this is what I’m dealing right now currently with a 3070ti never had issues till this exact month my screens kept going black and immediately think my GPu is fried however after re seating it will light up again and if I launch any intensity gpu game the screens just go black. Keeps on happening, don’t know what to don
DapperExcitement4552@reddit
Hey can you show me how to boot into safe mode my pc not letting me do it I have a asus UEFI bios and it is not going into safe mode
rystrave@reddit
Hi Dapper,
My PC also wouldn't allow me to boot in Safe mode no matter what I tried using the online "recommended" method (aka the power button method).
What I've done to by pass the screen issue is to have an updated version of BIOS on a thumb drive, entering the BIOS screen (my PCs shortcut is the 'del' button) and clicking on the M-Flash button from the BIOS screen (may differ depending on your motherboard). This has allowed me to get logged in and activate a restore point from before installing the graphics driver (except for this last one because I did DDU instead which needed a whole different work around)
DapperExcitement4552@reddit
Thank you so much I’ll give this a try
stillcantcry@reddit
if you have a windows usb stick use it go to repair options, cmd: bcdedit /set {default} safeboot network this turns on safeboot with network
when youre done with uninstalling drivers enter cmd again bcdedit /deletevalue {default} safeboot this removes the safeboot stuff and lets you start normal again

Did the recent update today on my 3090 ti Same black screen during install
Waited about 10 minutes and did a hard reboot.
Booted up a bit slower than normal, and the went to windows and immediately blacked out again
I was able to open task manage and shut down the Nvidia app
That brought everything back to life
But we’ll see how it goes from here fingers crossed 🤞

StopFinancial8921@reddit
i Had the same thing only that after the restart everything seems to be fine, should i still be worried?
ARMISTICErj@reddit
I have an AMD 5700G with integrated graphics and a RTX 4070. I had also updated windows to the newest preview version before installing new drivers and had this issue.
I tried the same driver again (572.93) after booting into safe mode and using DDU to remove bad driver install and disconnecting my second monitor. I choose not to use the clean install option like I usually do and everything is updated without an issue. I figured since it was a different driver then most have had issues with that it'd try and remove some of the factors.
I also noticed that the screen flickered and went black more than a few times which usually is not the case and only does it once, sometimes twice typically. It'd recommend sticking with older drivers for now, or disconnecting your monitors and not checking the clean install option based on my experience.

KellyDLynch@reddit
Okay... bit by this too. Origin laptop with RTX 3080/Win11. What I did to fix (been through 4 reboots with no spinny cursor):
Boot up in safe mode with networking (F8 doesn't work for me, so just did the three reboots upon seeing spinny cursor.. may take mouse movement on black screen to show)
Ran DDU to completely uninstall NVidia driver/app. Reboot. Now is using MS drivers for video, so can work normally.
Download NVidia drivers direct from site (I grabbed 572.83 572.16 and 566.36, all studio drivers since i don't play any gpu intensive games. Decided to try the latest first, expecting failure, so installed 572.83. BEFORE rebooting, i went into the Nvidia control panel, and turned off G-Sync, and put the monitor at 120hz (in my case, i had to create a new monitor profile, as 144 and 60 were the choices given me). Then rebooted. Everything came up fine. Restarted, and shutdown-fire up, for testing and each time it came up normally.
Hopefully this is of some help to some of you still needing to fix your rigs.

Try restarting your pc 3 times very fast, like restart by holding the power buttom, wait for the bios logo and hold the power buttom again to turn the pc off. Try that 3 times with no more than 10 secs in between each attempt and it should trigger the repair tool from which you can access safe mode. Lmk if you need more help
Chriz_Loko@reddit
No logo shows up bro, it’s like bricked
Chriz_Loko@reddit
The bios logo doesn’t show up too, the mother board light stays green too, last time it was my boot drive because of the led light was white.
Ok-Coast-1292@reddit
It happened to me too after updating the app and driver. But my monitor doesn’t even turn on. It’s on but nothing comes up, no safe mode no nothing. The power button on the monitor remains orange which means it’s off, it turns blue when it’s on, but whatever I do it doesn’t bring up anything on my monitor. I have only 1 monitor and it’s connected through display port, only cable I have. Any solutions? I am literally just stuck
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
When you restart it does it show to you the bios logo loading?
Ok-Coast-1292@reddit
No that’s the issue, it’s fully black. The monitoring is not actually turning on to bring up anything. Nothing comes up at all, tried pressing f10-f11 etc too. It looks like the monitoring is not connected to the pc anymore because the power light is on meaning it is getting power, but it’s orange meaning it’s off, it would be blue if the monitor is actually on.
Literally 5 mins ago I was using my pc everything was great but I decided to update everything, I updated the nvidia app and latest driver both and it told me it requires a restart. After restart this happened! Wtf!

They are pushing updates to fix 50 series gpus but 40 series are messed up by the latest drivers. when will they fix 40 series gpu's black screen issue?
Impossible_Ad_9228@reddit
Latest driver screwed wverything for me as well (5080). I was with 572.42 and worked flawlessly then today update to .60 and black screen appeared. I had to place the ssd to my laptop andl roll back to 572.42 but didn't work, still black screen with all 572 brancj drivers. Then i managed, gsync from my monitor tv (lg c4) and 144hz were the cause. Luckily now i can see my desktop turning off both of that settings. So those seems to be the problem perhaps? Now i am stuck on no gsync and 60hz. They must fix this shit
LucidAstralJunkieKid@reddit
I had to disable Gsync too. It fixed it. And I changed hard inputs to HDMI 60/120 rather than 144 HDMI "gaming input" and much better experience so far.
But after reading all of this I'm pretty much gonna pass on this new March update. I use studio drivers so maybe different but scares me. 4060ti 16gb user.
Literally just wanted to know minimum specs for the new driver and if it's okay or necessary to just keep updating every new driver that comes out.
It's hard to find just that info like will my card be okay if I install these drivers? If someone does know where to find that let me know cheers. Will stay on the stable Jan 2025 Studio Driver.
But yeah my TV as a monitor 💯 got excited and tested the 144hz input and it just behaves far better on the 60/120 ports. I can also "limit" or choose between 60 and 120 in my HDMI ports once I did that and took it off auto it stopped trying to go into "gaming mode" and then coming out of it constantly.
Cheers for sharing

Yeah, resetting got it fixed. 572.60 is installed right now and I am scared to install 572.70. Because I have no idea how people install hotfixes or previous versions while having a black screen.

Ok I think I figured it out. Its the new nvidia app. It sucks balls. Go to device manager and revert to previous driver from there. Once reverted, update the same driver from device manager and it will bring you to the latest version with no issues. for all future updates just avoid this stupid nvidia app. I'm going to uninstall mine or just use it for notifications of new drivers.
BrotherUseful@reddit
you wont be able to run that cr.. as it needs the latest driver somehow to just run the app. theres some voodoo wizardry going on between win and this app and the driver that puts the DP to sleep and not letting it wake back up.
its annoying to say the least.
BrotherUseful@reddit
3070 here.. not only its just randomly poping out for no reason, and not turning or waking back up. It has now gone full blown unoperational by even hard shutting down the pc holding the power button for like few secs..
It wouldnt even reboot into boot menu without repeating the shutdown process and then finaly. I thought ill just uninstall the damn thing, and it literaly did it again in the middle of an old driver install so... yeah.

The mistake half of you are making is not waiting for driver install to finish. You are resetting your PC halfway through installation, causing issues down the line.
Even if your screen goes black during install, wait for 10 mins, THEN reset. 9 out of 10 your PC will boot up just fine with the new drivers.
NVIDIA better fix their damn install process.

In the same crowd, I can’t seem to get past the black screen. Right before work I had updated to the latest drivers and came back home and can’t get past this now. After resetting three times I still can’t see the recovery screen 😭
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
How fast did you reset your pc? it has to be very fast, like no more than 10 seconds between each attempt. Also you could try connecting your monitor to your motherboard if it has integrated graphics
Cheesybich@reddit
Thank you! Yes I was way too slow. Plugging in my second monitor allowed me the see the recovery screen too for some reason, would not show up with just one monitor 🤔
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
That's nice to hear! do you know what to do next? if you do then you're set, if not i can help
Cheesybich@reddit
Read some helpful comments and got it figured out :) Thanks for helping your fellow brethren with these terrible driver updates lol
Holiday_Celery1179@reddit
Same problem i let it sit for 20mins after install then unplugged my second monitor (don’t think this is necessary) I proceeded to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button for 10-15 secs it took a while but after about 5 minutes it showed updates underway and successfully booted
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
dont update anything dude unless it's absolutely necessary, that's my advice
AdventurousAppeal341@reddit
Same issue with march 5 update 572.70, luckily screen came back after a restart
chum_is-fum@reddit
572.70 released today and it apparently fixes this
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
SUS
chum_is-fum@reddit
Hopefully it works, i deadass reinstalled windows because of .60
Born70YearsLate@reddit
I got black screened from the apparent "fix" for this today
xastralmindx@reddit
Well today's 572.70 gave me the black screen.. YAY.. WTF NVIDIA..
zulu970@reddit
For my case its a different story , after installing 572.60 there was no black screen initially but then it started happening 2 days ago when I reboot my PC it would show no signal to monitor, the fans are spinning, but keyboard num lock would stay on permanently and not OFF.
Miserable-Cod-9582@reddit
F NVIDIA.. the shit on customers.. see availability of RX50 Series.. I switch back to AMD.. got 2 time black screen when trying to update driver today. RTX3060. Reboot solved it every time.. but what is this? It shitting in us.. nothing more. So I give my money to AMD
oozayay@reddit
Thank you so much for calming my nerves after going through the same steps as you. You are a literal god send.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
You're welcome! i was also panicking so hard when this happened to me but a friend helped me through it. Glad I could do the same!
Inevitable-Handle215@reddit
I cant even get into desktop, or even safe mode, have to type bitlocker countless time. Fuck you Nvidia
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
have you tried rebooting the pc fast 3 times to trigger the repair tool? or connecting your monitor to your motherboard (if it has integrated graphics ofc)?
Inevitable-Handle215@reddit
Fuck you nvidia, I have to reboot mutiples times until I figures how to fix this
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
if you need any help let me know!
Alert_Tomatillo3533@reddit
If it happended to you do the following:
Restart pc
While restarting connecto to hdmi port
once windows has started, uninstall and reinstall the old drivers.

Thought Monster hunter wilds really killed my shit after playin last night then tryna hop on this mornin, luckily It was jus drivers😪
zpowZosimus@reddit
Damn I saw this too late. What a bummer
Afraid-Glass8926@reddit
I thought my computer was fine after rolling back the drivers and not installing any new updates. I downloaded Monster Hunter and as the game was optimizing, my computer crashed. I try to boot but receive no video from my GPU. Continuous black screens. I have tried forcing it into recovery mode but my computer will not respond. I have no way of getting into recovery mode with no video being sent to my monitors. I now have a brick since I'm unable to load Windows or recovery mode. If anyone knows a fix, please let me know.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
If your motherboard has integrated graphics you could try booting your pc by connecting the monitor to your monitor instead of your gpu. And how back did you rolled back your drivers?
Afraid-Glass8926@reddit
The motherboard does have integrated graphics but in order to get the source changed to the motherboard, I would still need to access this bios. So, unfortunately, this won't work. I rolled my drivers back to December.
Puzzleheaded-Net5769@reddit
This video has solved a lot of issues check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbH2rwX2d7k
gladiv@reddit
Have the same issue except I cannot get to safe mode. I can get to the automatic repair screen but it makes you restart to be able to then boot into safe mode, and when my PC restarts I lose the display and it doesn’t come back. If I press 5 it does nothing
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Sry for late response. You can try booting your pc by connecting the monitor to your motherboard if it has integrated graphics. That way you can start windows w/o safe mode.
gladiv@reddit
Thanks for following up, I did manage fix the issue. I don’t have integrated graphics (won’t be making that mistake with my next pc), but thank GOD Windows had automatically created a restore point just a few days before the issue. I assumed I wouldn’t have one
ExJokerr@reddit
The new update introduced some annoying FPS frops in stalker 2
JimBrl@reddit
I updated my PC with the hotfix and, no joke, the hotfix blackscreened, had to hard reboot right after
austin998@reddit
Sooooo the latest version still gives you black screen?
I already got black screen on the January version before. I am so fucking scared of getting black screen again, but I also wanna update my driver at the same time.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Apparently they released a hotfix for it, i think the link is in this post somewhere if you wanna risk it
MrGreen__@reddit
And here I was thinking it was my rig. I did a clean reset and that didn’t fix it. Let me try reinstalling a previous version driver now 🙂
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Hope that fixes it for you!
kirksisnotaweirdo@reddit
i just got a asus tuf 5070 ti and im experiencing this issue 3 days later. Im on displayport on a samsung g4 oddysey monitor with a b660 aorus, 850 corsair psu, and ddr4 ram. I installed the hot fix, adjusted cable, checked for fullscreen optimizations, everything. Still no fix at all im becoming more and more pissed at why this company wont just fix this.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
But have you been able to roll back the update?? or are you still stuck at a blackscreen?
BlankoStanko@reddit
It's still happening? I updated maybe a week and a half ago and I kept getting a black screen when trying to start my PC so I had to roll back. It wasn't 572.60, I think it was 572.47
I'm getting worried that games might stop working properly if I don't update eventually. Is that a thing? I can stick PC parts together and make it turn on, but I'm kind of an idiot on the software side of things.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
it's ok. It should be fine even if you dont update your gpu drivers frequently, tbh mostly it just fucks you over. The only time you kinda should do is if you start having problems during high GPU stress times, like stutters, big fps drops for no reason and stuff like that.
Warhammer-tactical@reddit
4070 super , just downloaded the driver yesterday and have black screen with blue circle only *attempting to restart at backup point * anyone have any other ideas if this doesn't work ?
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Sry for late response. You can try booting your pc by connecting the monitor to your motherboard if it has integrated graphics. That way you can start windows w/o safe mode.
Junior_Advantage_219@reddit
What if the option for safe mode doesn't load
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
you have Win 10 or 11? the startup options for safe mode may vary. Also some other ppl have fixed this problem by connecting your monitor to your motherboard instead of your GPU, so if your motherboard has integrated graphics you can startup windows normally that way and uninstall the driver w/o entering safe mode

Longjumping_Pop_6139@reddit
Same here. Nothing but problems with my $3000 computer. Sigh
firsthunt012@reddit
I’ll just say this, after I downloaded the newest driver I had massive issues with my monitors going black. It completely broke my 4070 ti downloading this update to the point of having to do a system restore, which I didn’t even have one a restore point to go back to so it caused me to have to do a full system restore.
stillcantcry@reddit
next time just start with safeboot network and uninstall your display drivers.
gladiv@reddit
I’m trying to do that, but when I get to the point that I have to restart to get to the boot options menu my screen goes black again. Any ideas?
stillcantcry@reddit
so appearently nvidia posted a fix which i cant see in the launcher yet. you can conncet your monitor via non displayport for now and fix your stuff it seems. if not lmk and i write you my solution with a windows installer usb stick

Yah same problem here 4070ti on an i9 14900, Asus ROG motherboard, black screen triples.. computer seems to be running but yes no vision, tried it twice and safe boot rolled back the drivers successfully.. what do we do now? just wait for the next driver?
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Apparently they already released a fix for it, but i dont trust it one bit. Maybe its on the nvidia page or forums but not sure
UnfairImagination660@reddit

Algreen11@reddit
FWIW I just had this happen on a 4070 ti super and forced a restart and it seems fine now?
Tc0nXstreme11@reddit
Yeah I'm having the issue right now trying to install the driver on my 4070... Screen just goes black forever until I manually hard boot the PC
Dazzling_Surprise_37@reddit
Same, 4070 with one screen. When booting up PC would turn on but screen wouldn't work with just display port cord plugged in. Plugged in display port and HDMI cord at the same time so I could test. Switched from display port to HDMI after booting up the PC and was able to get the screen working but limited functions, example, the task bar won't open Hulu when I click on it. It brings up the mini screen but won't let me click on it/maximize but once I've clicked on the icon Hulu in this case I can switch from HDMI back to display port and Hulu will be in full screen. Idk what's going on, it's making my head hurt
Tc0nXstreme11@reddit
When I noticed something was wrong during the installation (when the screen just stayed black for an extended period instead of flashing like normal) I gave it about another minute or two and then I just held my power button down until the PC shut down and when I rebooted everything was fine and the old driver was still installed so I've just been rocking with 572.42. I got lucky that mine was hanging at the very beginning of the install process I guess
Gregmcc123@reddit
Same issue on my 4070 super😭
Warhammer-tactical@reddit
Hey, go into recovery then safe mode with network then download the new hotfox from Nvidia website, just fixed mine, have a 4070 super as well

GTA IV with Vulkan is broken on the last 3 drivers
Cull_The_Herd2@reddit
Windows 11 user here: Hold f8 while booting up and you won't have to restart so many times to get the advanced start up tool and then safe mode. I have the 3060ti, and it blacked the screen out both times I tried installing the 572 driver. Staying on 566 for now I guess.
Successful_Mountain5@reddit
I did a clean install of 566.36 and I'm still getting black screens?
Cull_The_Herd2@reddit
Some people have mentioned not installing from the nvidia application, but rather from their website. Idk if that would help you.
Successful_Mountain5@reddit
I did that but I'm still getting black screens. I wonder if the new drivers actually bricked my gpu
Cull_The_Herd2@reddit
Maybe it's a BIOS issue? I'm not sure, I have the exact 566.36 driver you mentioned and all went back to normal. Like I said, all I did to fix the issue was roll back the driver in the device manager. If you've done the same, then I can only assume it's a BIOS issue. I'm no professional on the matter though. I doubt it's truly bricked your gpu though if that's any consolation.
Cull_The_Herd2@reddit
I just reverted mine in the device manager and then restarted my computer

Selknam22@reddit (OP)
does it actually work? i have trust issues now
Ninjaadd@reddit
I’m up and running on it, but it’s telling me it’s from January 24, 2024 though is the only issue. And launched at least Palworld.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
drivers are so weird man idk anymore

Ninjaadd@reddit
I’m currently reinstalling windows on a new drive so limited on games right this second
Ok_Tart_9509@reddit
2080 to - forced shutdown with power button, everything works on first boot - driver 572.60
Maybe I didn’t have similar issues because I walked around for a bit and waited at least 5 minutes before shutting down the pc
Give it enough time to fully install in the background, the black screen is probably just a bug with turning the displays back on
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
sadly that didn't happen with me. I left the screen black for like 30 minutes and nothing, and after booting it kept being black, no matter how many times i booted it. So you are a lucky one
Riconas@reddit
I've had this issue with the last few driver updates; when it happens now, I just do a hard reset and it seems to boot up fine, so apparently the drivers install just fine, but whatever flags the display to turn back on after install is finished apparently isn't working. Between this and the issues the new cards have been having, I'm seriously considering going with a Radeon card instead.
Due_Animator5596@reddit
I had to do this as well, but it was actually from the driver before the feb 27 release. I also had to go to safe mode and roll back the drivers, which thankfully I knew to do as I have had to do it before.
lalala123abc@reddit
Hit this installing with a 4060 just now.
BaronVonMoist@reddit
It was definitely the driver for me. I'm running a vanilla 1080 and I had a black screen, but I was running the previous driver. I updated it to the new driver and the black screen was worse. This time the mouse cursor was rotating instead of actually being able to see the cursor. I had to restart the PC three times like the op said and I rolled back the driver to a driver from December. Everything is fine now.
wahrby@reddit
4070 Super.
My Monster Hunter experience has been riddled with graphic glitches so i downloaded the 27 Feb patch hoping it would perhaps fix it.
BIG MISTAKE
Iwe spent an hour getting my PC back from the dead.
Managed to solve it by plugging one monitor into the onboard motherboard GPU and boot it up.
Clean downgrade to 13 Feb patch and a quick reboot later and my PC is back, scary...
STUNN3R_045@reddit
I just got new laptop. Should i update the driver or not?
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Wouldn’t reccomend it. Not until nvidia releases a fix for the problem

PayOk9830@reddit
Same here
defil3d-apex@reddit
Do you have multiple monitors? Try booting with just one attached, mine can’t boot with multiple plugged in right now lol
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Okey so i managed by resetting the pc multiple times to start up the windowns safe mode and unistalled the driver and after a restart it was back to normal. The problem now is that after installing it manually now from the nvidia page the same thing happened. So im gonna try to do the same but installing not the last driver which obviously is the problem (idk why tho).
stillcantcry@reddit
so? which one fixed it for you? i tried january 20th and got. black screens aswell
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
Sadly no, i have a laptop but idk if it’ll work with it
Abefrs323@reddit
I just updated and had the same problem (rtx5090) I unplugged 2nd monitor and rest PC and it went back to normal just plugging in the 2nd monitor and it works as well
Theelitenovice@reddit
Same thing has happened to me. Had to go back to a system restart point though.
My Nvidia app is now fucked as well and won't install any drivers.
Selknam22@reddit (OP)
My advise is to not use the nvidia app and deactivate the automatic driver instalation and just do it manually from the nvidia page
JaceTheTruth@reddit
In doing that from now on, too many times has my pc been fucked over after nvidia app driver downloads
UriahBelanger@reddit
This update just gave my Ibuypower PC the black screen as well. Can't boot it into safe mode or anything. Just black screen. 2nd time an update has done this to my computer.
