Temu Prep List Items

Since most everything is likely made in China already, has anyone bought and played with anything off of Temu? Looking to start getting things for a SHTF situation and have seen a ton of survival stuff on there. Im assuming it’s hit or miss but was curious if anyone has had luck getting anything worthwhile from there?

Temu is garbage and if even you get the actual item you ordered then it is probably made of the cheapest worst quality material. Save your money and buy things elsewhere.

Irony. The vast majority of items purchased in the west are made in China. Amazon items are predominantly made in China.

I've been pretty satisfied with Temu so far. The only thing I've noticed is just extremely slow shipping times, sometimes upwards of 3 weeks but I've always gotten my items.
Here is what I know is solid from them:
Baby/toddler clothing
Flashlights ( note: most rechargeable lights from them use the old style micro usb chargers, very few use type-C.)
Braided charging cords
Bedding
Blankets
Tapestries
Hats
Here is what's junk so far:
Anything electrical that physically plugs into a wall outlet and not a USB charger. THIS NEEDS TO BE NOTED!!! Everything that I have gotten from them that plugs into a 120ac outlet has generated an alarming amount of heat. Especially wall chargers for cell phones. One of which got so hot before I noticed that the plastic shell encasing it had become soft. Yikes!
Fishing gear--It's ALL bad, especially the bulk lure deals. I ordered an assortment of 500 that quite literally came in a single box, together, not separated from one another, basically making a huge ball of inseparable lures.
Essential oils---very diluted
Generalized "tool sets"- Less than Walmart quality on most, usually around the same price as Walmart or Amazon after shipping.

Basing your survival potential on temu items is kinda sketchy in my opinion. What is their success rate and durability ratings good for if it tears unwrapping it.

Meh for Temu. Worse than the chinese amazon products. The chinese ones at r/preppersales are vetted for reviews at least

I've had really good luck with Temu myself. And AliExpress. I got a fire grate there, shoes, hand saws, things for my garden and saving seeds, water pumps, reusable lids for my water jugs. And so many kitchen supplies like bread bowls, kneading bags, rolling pins.
I've gotten soy wax and candle making supplies, pantry shelving a few first aid items like suture kits, otoscopea, scalpels other small items.
I've gotten cat and dog crates, carry bags, harnesses and grooming supplies.
I've gotten off grid lights of all kinds,
I bought a hatch net for my SUV for car camping, blackout curtains, window shades.
I've gotten door insulation curtains and quite a few items for me RV.
And from AliExpress I've gotten many sewing supplies like 100 packs of zippers, sewing needles, sets of pressure feet and just random supplies that would have come from a catalog anyway it would have cost too much for me to afford otherwise.
Years ago there used to be one called New Frog and I got my folding stainless steel camping stove there that I still use as well as gas hand warmers and replacement parts for antique items.

Temu has over 300,000 sellers, so I don't understand how folks can declare anything specific about quality. It's like a huge online flea market, You can sometimes find the exact product on Amazon for 2-5 x's the price.
That said, they do sell a lot of "dollar tree" quality stuff. Be wary of any brief descriptions. If they are not listing materials, (stainless steel, cotton, wool, whatever you're looking for) maybe steer clear. Watch quantity and size too.. they might show a picture of two twin-sized wool blankets and then send 1 crib size. I have found the size/quantity description to be accurate though. I've actually gotten several decent items... a lot of small things... phone cases, organizing shelves, dog harnesses/leashes, battery-operated door security alarms, hanging pantry baskets, small Solar chargers, charging cords. I got a super cheap pop-up, waterproof tent (that is just OK quality), but was like $13, is super light, and basically the same quality as what you could buy at Walmart for 3-5x's the amount - it's very portable and is better than trying to make a shelter out of a foil blanket. Also, some decent camp cookware. Would I rather have a $500 ultralight Big Agnes or even $150 used or clearance Marmot? Yep.., but my budget is limited and I have to prioritize. And... I've gone out and practiced making temp shelters with available brush and what I could carry... and I'd much rather have a pop up to build around than just paracord and an emergency blanket...
I've also been sent a few shit items. Temu did back their guarantee and the refund process was pretty easy.

I made a whole bug out bag with Temu stuff and it’s all good quality
deadlynightshade14@reddit
I have a lot too! All of it seems really good. Just gotta read dimensions, sometimes things are tiny haha
GGarlicBreadd_@reddit
Good point! Always check size and dimensions

It's no different to any major online retailer. Just do your research and make use of the returns policy if you have to.

Why trust your life to something that is made as cheaply as possible? Blows my mind that people think it’s ok to buy stuff that could mean the difference between life and death from a site that constantly sells faulty and fake stuff
hope-luminescence@reddit
I really dislike the idea of that. There's China and there's China.
Rough quality is the last thing that you want. If you just want good Chineseium, why not AliExpress?
Difficult-Refuse-459@reddit (OP)
I just assumed Temu and Aliexpress were the same thing? Is aliexpress better quality?
TheKiltedPondGuy@reddit
I have a bunch of stuff from AliExpress for all konds of things from shooting to aquarium equipment. The thing to remember is you get what you pay for. If you’re looking for an item, don’t go with the cheapest option because it will be garbage. If the item comes in a range from $10 to $30, get the $25 one and you’re likely going to get a decent product.

I had bad experiences with temu lots of items are way smaller than you think when they actually arrive. I also bought some faux ivory privacy screen to put up around the yard, in less than 6 months the green plastic leaves faded and are now blue. And the fishing tackle, hooks, swivels and weights haver rusted. I swear, never in my life have I seen lead fishing weights rust.
I'm sure it's hit and miss and there is good stuff on temu, I just haven't found it
sbinjax@reddit
There are a few clues. "Local" means it's already in the country. "Best Seller" in a category means other people are buying it. A lot of products have star ratings as you would expect. Look carefully at the size specifications so you understand exactly what you're considering.
Most recently I bought a shelving unit that was so cheap and so well made that I bought 2 more.
Several-Air-885@reddit
I bought a greenhouse from them. Seems to be good so far. Just read the description carefully. Some items I bought surprised me in quality..others surprised me in lack of quality.
