How common is drinking "espresso coffee shots" in the USA?

A lot of people have given you great answers already. But I wanted to share a bit of context about why this is! If you look at coffee consumption all over the world, it basically follows the exact same spread as Italian immigrants. With the invention of coffee brewing machines in Italy (things that more more complex than something like the Turkish method), coffee culture was born. Before that, it was largely just an extreme luxury and acquired for the upper middle class. The percolator and the drip machines were the first coffee brewing "machines" invented. Italian immigrants during this time period mostly traveled to the UK and North America. About 50-60 years later, we get the first commercially available espresso machine. Italians during this period were mostly migrating to other parts of continental Europe, Australia, and South America. By that point however, drip coffee was already well established in the US and Canada, so it took a long time for espresso to catch on as anything more than a novelty. As for Arabica vs Robusta and blends... most of the cheaper brands of coffee for home brew are Robusta unless you buy as special Arabica blend. Arabica became a marketing buzzword in the late 90s and early 2000s when cafe culture took off here and Starbucks started to become universal in every city and town. I would say that Arabica blends are probably the most commonly seen coffees now, usually 60-40 A to R. However, a lot of specialty roasters are moving back to Robusta for most of their roasts.
