For example, the needless cycling of water through the back requires more cleaning (you don't clean these parts because you don't know what you're talking about; there's probably mold in the back parts of your coffee maker that you've never seen). The coffeemaker is also notably less energy efficient than an electric kettle, assuming it's the common type with a hotplate. A typical, cheap one also cannot be set to just boil the water and alert you as soon as its done, the most basic feature for any electric kettle.
