That moment when you have to use every tool in the shop

Just a couple of upgrade advice, ditch those cable brakes, you got 1000 watts and 160nm of torque in the DM01, upgrade to some serious 2pot or 4pot hydraulic brakes, upgrade those rotors, your need at least 203mm front rotors and 180mm rear. Unless you have flat roads everywhere and ride at slow speeds, your need upgrades to braking.

Hey any other tips? Just got a dmo1

Make sure you check the latest firmware, as the Toseven dm01 is still considered new, they are still putting out newer firmware versions, I've held back on buying the Dm01 until it's reliability is as solid as the bbshd but I really hope it's good, maybe next year I will buy it. I would as the Dm01 is a powerful motor, invest in a solid frame, steel or titanium frames good choice, stick with a 9 speed drivetrain, Microshift advent 9 is my go too, for a chain I use kmc 9speed with 118 link at a minimum. If you program the motor make sure to save the original settings and only increase in small increments. For the best experience, buy a 52v battery with at least 18 amp hours. Also don't buy cheap forks or at least crap brands, aim for 35mm stanchions, rockshox pikes are good choice.

I'm running a trek Marlin 6 Gen 2, 20ah 60v battery and it's a beast. The motor that is.
I'm a big dude, 6'5 300lbs and that thing pushes me uphill at 40kmh. It's fast. And that's with 80% throttle cuz it's limited. If i was somehow able to pedal id probably get 50km/h uphill.
Range is also great on 20ah battery.
The trek marlin isn't the best bike for this power tho but it's handling it well. Stock brakes are slowly getting swapped cuz stock hd275 had a lot of fade after a bit of riding. Got some Shimano XT 4pot and 203mm rotors and that problem is gone.
My idea for the future is to get a full suspension frame and put some strong stuff on it. I'm limited cuz I can't put 220 rotors on this frame. The total weight is pushing 400lbs so you kinda feel every bump
Kind of a rant but hopefully it's useful to anyone else in the future looking at these threads

I feel you on the weight thing, though I'm 5'8 and 203lbs so weight to height ratio still feel those bumps, curse you Ale ( beer ) lol, I'm trying out Shimano Saints m820 for the rear atm, holding back on replacing the front as I got the Shimano M7120 which will be the same power as those XT you have only difference is the lever might be better than mine, those Saints m820 are beast! I will most likely replace the front with them, the Saints are their downhill brakes so you know they should have power! only draw back is the reach adjustment doesn't come in close enough to the handle bar grip but that's why it has more power in the shorter travel pull. Do you need full suspension? do you ride off-road much, I would invest in a dropper post/suspension seat post, trouble with full suspension conversion ebikes is the maintenance of two forks increases to cost. Yep 20ah is a great amount of amp hour, I have the Em3ev 52v 20ah battery ( If you decide to look for another I recommend searching for it ) and it will get me 40 miles ( sometimes more ) with average of 500w use or more depending on peak power spikes and throttle use when stop and starting ( I only run throttle that way ), thanks for the feedback on the motor, really appreciate that, glad to see it is performing well, I might just save and buy it this year as my early Xmas present and retire the bbshd's for abit. I wouldn't focus on those 220mm rotors but rather the material in your brake pads, I alway aim to use metal ( sintered ) pads, either Shimano finned pads which I never get the rattle issue these youtubers mention or after market pads, I think if you wanted better power you would need to switch to Hope tech 4 v4's or trickstuff over the XT.

I ended up getting the 8120 brakes cuz of the really good deal. I bought them off AliExpress (a lot are fake but there's a few stores that sell real ones) I paired them with 2.3mm rotors so they rub a bit but that should get better as the pads wear. I'm running 203mm rotors front and soon rear. I looked at the saints but those things are pricey. I'm running sintered finned pads and it performes well. Before getting the saints, try switching your rotors to largest size possible. That should up your braking performance by \~20%
Also just got the NCX suspension seatpost, works great but I want a full suspension bike just cuz I want a do it all type of bike.
I get around 35 miles with my battery with the riding I do. Most times I'm pedaling and using about 350w and then sometimes I use the throttle and it uses 1500w, good fun
The full suspension build is still a year away id say, I'm really happy with my current setup especially for bike touring and exploring the city and getting fit. Once I start doing off-road stuff I'm gonna get a full suspension ebike frame or full suspension efat bike frame and do a 9000w hub motor setup or dual motor setup. Gonna be sick
My build isn't done, gonna finalize it next weekend when some 75mm riser bars come.

btw, this is my main Bafang Bbshd build
Entrepreneur-_-@reddit
Nice man,how do you carry water bottles and how's the forks?
Remote-Citron-9383@reddit
Rucksack or backpack for water, forks are fine, Rockshox Pikes cost me £120 from ebay used, 35mm stanchions with 160mm travel, not serviced them since i brought them but i really should do lol. In general if I carry stuff its always in my rucksack/backpack.
Remote-Citron-9383@reddit
I would recommend ditching those forks, they look like suntour spring forks with probably 28mm stanchions, my original build had suntours 32mm stanchions and the spring give in from the stress of motors power, for bigger riders and for powerful ebikes aim for 35mm stanchions and air forks, I'm using used rockshox pikes picked up cheap on eBay, looks good otherwise. My 203mm rotors front and back have plenty of stopping power, trouble with going any larger it incurs more cost vs deminising returns, I think personally I'm going to settle on saints m820 and they cost in the Uk only a slight bit more, saints £140 vs £120 for the m8120.
Entrepreneur-_-@reddit
I want to ditch the forks but they're so expensive here in Canada and can't seem to find any used ones that fit.
Remote-Citron-9383@reddit
I think your fork is a straight steerer which limits the options, part of the reason I decided to build my ebike around a more modern frame, Ns bike evo, I'm sure something will came along.
Remote-Citron-9383@reddit
Hope that Dm01 gives you a good experience, let me know how you get on with it😀
Entrepreneur-_-@reddit
Bro it's fast af. Haven't had any major issues yet. Loving it
nautilustommy@reddit
How is the DM01 working out? Have you had any issues?
Available_Promise_80@reddit (OP)
It's going great, thanks. I haven't had any issues at all. Hope it stays that way. It's super smooth and quiet and has all the power I could ask for. I highly recommend it, especially if you want torque sensing.
nautilustommy@reddit
Thanks! I probably will get it, b/c I def want torque sensing.
