GPU died, have the opportunity to buy a used 3090ti from a friend, or should I fight for a 50 series card?

My 3080 died, artifacting and black screen crashes left and right. Bummer timing.
I have a buddy who snagged a 5090 that is willing to sell me his used 3090ti for like a grand. I know the card works just fine. He's had it from launch and is a normal after work and weekends kind of gamer, so it's not like the card has been used for crypto mining or anything like that. I believe it is a Zotac model. I see them on ebay for like 1200+ so I think a grand would be fair all considered the timing and the current GPU market.
Do you guys think it would be better to grab the 3090ti and skip the 50 series all together? Or keep fighting for a 5070ti or 5080?
This would be going into my new build that I have been assembling pieces for over the last few months. AM5 9800x3d.
Let me know what you all think. I am leaning towards buying it used from him just to skip all the madness and melting connectors and whatnot.
I game on a LG C3 42" 120hz OLED at 4K.
Thanks!
