People who have been to places in the UK where horrific things happened (Hungerford etc), could you feel it as a presence or not?

I don’t believe in the supernatural, but I imagine if something awful occurs especially in a fairly rural and peaceful area, it clings in the atmosphere for years because of the destruction it has done.

I sleep in the same bed where my ex's boyfriend died and she had to do CPR on him for quite a long period waiting for the ambulance. Took her years to get over that. But the mattress is so comfy, I sleep great in that room!

I definitely agree certain places have certain vibes. Just travelling out of the North of England and it’s like you are in a different universe.

We’re glad you’re travelling out again
ItsaGEO1994@reddit
I’m not. The North is very different from the midlands and south.

Oh, I read this as ‘I’m just travelling out ‘leaving’ the north’. I’m I’d apologise but I’m 4 beers in so probably something to do with that.

Oh right.

Nope.
Walked past 25 Cromwell street all the time. Both before and after it was discovered. Was just another shit hole backstreet in Gloucester.

There's barely an inch of land on 'this storied isle' where an abomination hasn't occurred.

I'm sure those from where terrible things happened carry the weight of their experiences with them, and it feeds into the local vibe.
I shared a flat with a young woman from Lockerbie (1997, I'm 52), and the events of that recent tragedy haunted the way she looked at the world. She'd talk about it when feeling anxious.

That's just your imagination.

Recently found out a huge medieval battle took place not far from Me, never heard of it, don't think anyone else I know has. There have been gruesome events pretty much everywhere

Only when knowing the history at the time. This suggests that the feelings are internal/psychological rather than from the surroundings- this doesn’t mean they aren’t real just that they aren’t embedded in the landscape or building

Not in the UK, but I definitely felt it at Dachau.

I don't believe in any aspect of the supernatural at all, and frankly I think that those who do need to get a fucking grip...but that being said when I was in year 9 we went on a school trip to one of the Nazi extermination camps (yes I know its not in the UK, suck it up) and that place 100% had an aura.
There is a tabletop RPG called Shadowrun which has the concept of "background counts" for places where there has been horrific levels of human suffering. That extermination camp had a background count off the charts. 25+ laughing and joking, carefree teenagers instantly silent, solemn and deeply reflective the second we walked in through the gates and for the entire remaining 3 days of the school trip.
It was like nothing I have ever experienced in my life and still haunts me to this day.

Nah
Visited hungerford for a job interview, learnt months later a massacre happened there
Wouldn’t have guessed at all. Just looked like an empty town full of elderly people.

Not in UK, but most definitely at Oradour-sur-Glane in France.

No I've lived near a lot of prisons that housed some pretty gnarly criminals and only found out months after some locals told me about it.
I think if there was a presence it would probably come from those prisons right?

Or any area?

I'm a total sceptic when it comes to the supernatural and am an atheist but a few years ago I visited Eyam which is known as the plague village. I got the oddest sense of peace and calm in the church which was there during the outbreak and deaths. It was so odd
SpikesNLead@reddit
No you can't.

History is a hobby of mine, so I've visited a lot of places associated with murders/execution. Can't say I've ever felt a "presence" as you describe.
Even truly horrific places abroad where it's emotional, I wouldn't describe it as you have.
